Right now, the Lean Remodeler in partnership with Wilsonart International is sponsoring a Spring Cleaning Contest. One lucky winner will receive design consultation, organization and storage solutions including laminate countertops for their family room, basement, craft room, etc. I am hoping to be that one lucky winner!
Earlier this week, I gave you a tour of my home and included an old picture of the playroom.
Several months ago, I decided to start reorganizing every room in the house (dumb idea) and basically did away with the playroom. I just thought we could better utilize this space for something else. So, I moved all the important toys and books into my boys’ bedroom and now am left with this:
…a big jumbled mess filled with things needing to be sold on Craigslist or donated to Goodwill and a room we never use.
Yeah. The only love this room is feeling right now is coming from that sad heart pillow from Ikea in the picture above! It needs some serious help!
Although I have a craft closet on the main level of the home, it is just not working for me. My crafts overtake the bar, and then overflow onto the kitchen table, and then we end up eating amongst glue sticks and ribbon.
Momma needs a playroom of her own that she can share with the kiddos.
I would love to have a space with oodles of storage so it can double as a home office/craft nook. (Right now our “office” is in the guest room and that hasn’t worked so great either. Laptops have eliminated the need for a full office, but we still have papers to file and office supplies to store.)
I think something like this would be beautiful yet functional.

Or perhaps something like this…

I love the idea of a centered working table with storage and countertops surrounding.

This style is too modern for my taste, but I like the overall use of space here.

My space is small, 10×10, and there is a bay window on one of the four walls which presents a potential design challenge. However, I think with some help and imagination this room could be fantastic. I am hoping the Lean Remodeler and Wilsonart Design Team are willing to lend that help and imagination to fulfill my spring clean dream of a craft room!
How about you? Do you have a fantastic place to create? Well then, go ahead and spam me. Link up your posts/pics of your workspace in your comment, so I can come over and covet!

Beth,
I came across your blog from the home tour and I have enjoyed looking back over some previous entries!
I think I use to LIVE in your town! (I was a teacher at Penn Manor). Could I be right?! I owned an old brick duplex that my Dad helped me fix up, while I was single. I miss that house and town!!
So fun to check out your blog!!

I have a fantastic space, I just have never gotten around to post 'the space'. But in June there is a 'where woman create blog party'. I am taking that as my cue to get my mojo going and finish all the little odds and ends in my craft room and make a big 'where I create' post. Maybe an idea for you too?
Hope you win though. Oh btw, I love baywindow reading nooks.

Sounds like a fun challenge! My room is 8 by 10. It just works for my scrapbooking things. The sewing got moved to the basement, but at least it works. I recently added a bit more storage and moved my table into the center of the room. I love being able to walk around the entire thing if I want. My next goal is to raise it up to counter height as I like to stand to work and then put a skirt around it so I can add more storage underneath!

Someday I might actually take some new pictures. 🙂
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Oh those craft rooms make me soooo jealous. I would love one. I will have to wait until the kids move out. Not to hurry them up or anything. Someday.

I would love to have one of those fab craft rooms. Unfortunately mine is tiny, ~ 5×9.5 ft. One of these days… I'll take it on and make it the best organized and useful mini craft rooms there is!

I'm still in the dreaming stage of my 'creating room'…dreaming dreaming…one day!

I wish I had a fabulous craft room to show you! ;). I am lucky enough to have a space but it needs some help. A lot! I love these ideas you shared and I hope you are the winner of this great contest. How fun would that be?! Good luck 🙂

I am not sure if you read – Knockoff Wood blog but she has plans to build one similar to what you have pictured – http://www.knock-offwood.com/2010/02/plans-bedford-project-table-top-with.html

These look great, Beth! I hope you get it! I don't even have a room right now that I can claim. I have a small table/cart thingy in the garage that I work on {which is better than the kitchen tabale, I guess}. Plus, I have a craft closet just outside of the garage, so I do have some storage. I would love to be able to have a whole room as my office/craft/sewing room. Next house!

I think you have enough room to make a really nice office/craft area, especially if you have a central table or counter which would make the bay window less of a problem (think:space underneath). I love that you are doing this.
My Desert Cottage is hosting a party called Where Women Create. Have you ever heard of it? It's all bloggers posting about their studios/crafting spaces. You may want to take a look at that when it starts.
