I met today with the fabricator who will be working with me on designing my new craft room!!! Wahoo! I am so excited to see what he designs for me, and I will most certainly keep you in the loop as decisions are made. The first order of business is deciding on a laminate countertop. Uh…Beth, didn’t we decide this for you already in a poll? Why yes. Yes you did. You all chose Sea Glass which I love; it is so me. But…I’m scared. Will I hate the color in a few years? Will it look horribly dated? Is the surface too unforgiving for all my craft misadventures? I don’t know. Help! Your second choice was the Tumbled Mosaic which I also like and is much less of a risk.
Either way, I plan to use the colors of earth and sea in this room. I picked up this great seat cushion on clearance today and hope to find other discount beauties to match.
Speaking of matching, I just HAVE to share a tiny something with you that I picked up today that matches my laundry “room” perfectly! (This is the beauty of having blog girlfriends who just get it. Love my Hubs, and he does his best to feign elation over my finds, but he totally doesn’t get it.)
Do you see it??? No? You don’t have every item in my previous laundry closet post memorized? Huh. Well let me help you out. Do you see that glorious ironing board cover?
Here, let me give you a closer look…
I found this brown and blue cover for $2.99 at Gabriel Brothers today, and I squealed. It was a full blown piggy squeal and scared my children. For real. My three year old almost burst into tears! This ironing board cover was made for my laundry closet and at $2.99 I could actually afford the splurge.
I HATE ironing and avoid it at all costs. But if I have to iron, then it’s a comfort knowing that I can do it on a cute board!
Okay back to the point here….sea glass or tumbled mosaic? I know you were split before and probably will be again, but please give me your reasons this time. Feel free to talk me into your fav! (And while you’re at it, if you want to exclaim praises over my savvy laundry room addition I won’t mind!)

The sea glass is lovely — and pristine. It won't stay pristine in a crafting room; inevitably it will pick up the dings and especially scratches that come with use. Heavy crafting use.
Also, you may tire of the color. You may not — but if you do, you're stuck with scratched up sea glass laminate. And shabby chic laminate has no cachet; it's not like battle-scarred butcher block.
Anyway, I vote tumbled mosaic. Plenty of color flexibility, plenty of hide-and-seek-scratches capabilities.
Best wishes, Cass

LOVE the Sea Glass but I woudl say stay with the Tumble Mosaic. You can get plenty of blue in the room in other ways. The Tumble Mosaic makes it much easier for you to change your mind down the road which we gals always do and if it is for something permanent tumble mosaic is a safer choice as well. I think the Sea Glass will show stains or marks and what have ya more easily and if you are like me I always m making a mess.
The Mrs. says
Tumbled Mosaic. I'm all about investing in long term design and I think that the tumbled mosaic is much more versatile. The seaglass is gorgeous and exciting, but I'm with the other girls–buy pillows and interchangeable accessories in the colors that are likely to be popular now, but not in 3-5 years. I love your blog! Keep sharing. 🙂
Nina Patricia @ The Adventures of Nina Patricia says
I love the seaglass however, I'm with you on Tumble mosaic will hide things better. Also in the future you may like the most neutral one so you will only have to paint and buy accesories. Either way, lucky girl!
And I'm loving your laundry space.
Kimberly says
I didn't vote the first time, but I vote for the Tumbled mosaic. I love color, but like neutral finishes for more permanent fixtures. I agree with the others, add Sea Glass accessories or with paint.
Love the ironing board!
Kristen says
Tumbled mosaic – it's A LOT easier to change color accessories out than put in a new counter top…the Sea Glass is gorgeous but think about how you can't change much up in the room because you have to work around that!
I know, boring me, the voice of reason! 🙂
Tanya says
I'm a neutral girl all the way BUT going with the SEA GLASS!! Beautiful beautiful!!!
Can I go on your next 4th of July??????? That place looks amazing!!! Lucky You!!
Rachel says
SEA GLASS! Okay, yeah, the other one is more practical. But that sea glass is amazing!!!!
stephaniegiese says
Tumbled mosaic. The sea glass is beautiful, but if you are already second guessing it, it's probably not the right choice for you. Besides, the tumbled mosaic is a more neutral back drop to give you the chance to change your look later if you want to. 🙂

Tumbled mosaic.
Heather@PixieDust says
go with tumbled mosaic. while i love aqua, i think it is weird for counter tops. put the aqua on a painted surface – the cabinets, the walls, etc.
Kristi @ Creative Kristi says
Sea glass. A) because you love it and B) because even if it is 'dated' in a little bit you can always PAINT laminate!! 🙂 I did it and I'm obsessed with it now..whenever I look at houses online (just because lol) I no longer think "oh I'll have to replace the maroon countertops" I just think "Oh I'll paint those" 😉
anne says
Tumbled mosaic…for sure!
As time goes by, you might want to switch up the theme of the room. With the tumbled mosaic, you've got options. With the seaglass, you're rather limited.
There are a ton of other reasons (already mentioned) to support my vote. 🙂
ACB says
Most definitely tumbled mosaic! With stuff that's "permanent" like countertops or flooring, you need to stay neutral! Do the curtains or wall color in the seaglass tone, something that is cheap and easy to replace when you're tired of it. Also the mosaic will most definitely hide crafting sins much better than the seaglass!
Anny says
I love the glass AND the laundry room! I can't believe you packed that much CUTE into that tiny space 😀
Missy in Texas says
i like the tumbled mosaic. The aqua color has been the "it" color for awhile now. You might get tired of it in a year or so… it is much easier to change paints and fabrics.
Dayka (Life +Style) says
i say tumbled mosaic because i think it's something you'll enjoy for years to come, versus the seaglass, which will probably look dated in a few years.
i love the cushion you found–it matches perfectly and was a great deal.
Jennifer Burgett says
Tumbled Mosaic. I agree with the other commenters that you can add the seaglass color with accessories that also can be changed easily and inexpensively. Good luck and have fun designing the space!
jen @ {decor junkie} says
My vote is the Tumbled Mosaic. I love, love, LOVE the Sea Glass, but I think that because the blue is so popular right now, it would be better to go with something more timeless and then just decorate with that beautiful blue. A countertop would be expensive to replace in a few years, so I'd go with something more classic.
As for your new ironing board cover — um, I LOVE it! and for $2.99, it's pretty much a steal! So adorable — great find!
Tiffany says
Tumbled Mosaic. It's classic and forgiving for a craft room. Add the seaglass color with accessories that can be changed inexpensively. About 8-10 years ago I went crazy with cobalt blue… enough said.
Jennifer Poppy says
tumbled mosaic:)
Jaimie says
Tumbled Mosaic. I agree that in 5 or 10 years you may want a new theme, or something more versatile. My mom's old house had orange countertops, and I'm sure someone at one time thought that was cool, but very un-versatile 🙂
I LOVE that ironing board cover. I would squeal too (funny it scared the kids) 🙂 What is that store you speak of?!
BeachNerd says
Beth, whatever you pick, know that in the past, I have found SO much real sea glass on the same beach that your mom lives on. You could really accent your room with that glass. I'm sure you already have some…
Amanda @ Serenity Now says
As much as I love the Sea Glass (and probably voted for it), I think the other one will be more versatile if the turquoisy colors become dated in a few years.
Jennifer says
Tumbled Mosaic.
First off… it is just gorgeous! Love it!
Second… you can change you accents and paint color when ever you want to without being tied to a color palate.
Third… if you are messy like me, paint and such will blend in and not 'ruin' the look of the counter.
1 Funky Woman says
Your laundry nook is so stinkin cute! Ok, I'm going to place my vote and vote for the Tumbled Mosaic. I like them both but 1 I think if you dropped something like glue you wouldn't notice as much and 2 I think it would be fun to have your accessories be the sea glass color. I think that way if you did get sick of the sea glass color the tumbled mosaic can then switch to other colors down the road! I'm not even a neutral kind of gal but I just like that a little more!
I'm curious to see what you end up with!
Jess @ Frugal with a Flourish says
I got to go with my old standby of big expensive pieces (including countertops) should stay neutral so you can change your mind as you go. So I vote Tumbled Mosaic!
Val says
I love them both!!! Gorgeous!!! Have fun picking!!!! = )
Craftify It! says
LOVE your ironing board cover find! I love the LAUNDRY sign that you have hanging…too cute!
I like the sea glass most, BUT I would vote mosiac for your craft room & accent in the sea glass color. I guess I'm not much of a risk taker:)
Tiffany says
Nope…didn't have it memorized…but I did know it was a new addition! I am SO observant! Yay for me…and YOU for having such a cute laundry room & ironing board! 🙂
Molly says
I would go with the tumbled mosaic. The colors you have selected are simply beautiful, but what about in 5 years when you want to go with a different color scheme? I would do the more permanent pieces in something more neutral then have fun with fabrics and accessories and paint.
Carmen says
I do like the Sea Glass but I like the Tumbled Mosaic better because I think it will be more forgiving. And I think it's more neutral. But you must choose what YOU love.
And I love the ironing board cover. Ummm I don't even think I have an ironing board. HA!
Centsational Girl says
Okay, I LOVE your two choices but I'm totally going to throw something else at you for a good reason. I have a pale cream/white laminate countertop in my laundry room, it's been there ten years, and I've never gotten tired of it. I really like these two:
http://samples.wilsonart.com/p-165-limestone-4789-52.aspx
http://samples.wilsonart.com/p-222-fresco-4207-60.aspx
Both are totally timeless. But bottom line, you choose what you love most. It's YOUR space !

First off, I want to tell you that I laughed out loud when I read about your squeal. I do that quite often! My hubbie and son are use to it. On the other hand, I am all about the sea Glass. I think that will be amazing.
Carmen says
I can't remember what I voted last time, but this time I'm going with the tumbled mosaic. The only draw back I see with it is that you may not see small craft items on it. The seaglass is nice, but I think it'll become dated quickly.
I think the tumbled mosaic will kinda settle into the room nicely, where the seaglass will always demand attention. I'll bet that's clear as mud. LOL…
Pam @ diy Design Fanatic says
Tumbled Mosaic! It is neutral and will stand the test of time! Bring the sea glass color in with accents that you can change and update in a few years!
EFandJ says
I love the sea glass but would ultimately choose the tumbled mosaic. I like the fact that it is a more neutral color upon which to do crafts of all different colors.
Personally, I would have to go with a slightly more neutral palate so that it is my creativity inspiring me, not the color of the room.
Kathleen Frances says
At first I thought tumbled mosaic. Then I saw what you wanted to pair with it and now I say seaglass.
But you might also want to consider that if you sell your house down the road, tumbled mosaic might be a better choice since it's more neutral.
But screw that, I'd go with seaglass:)
Mandi @ Finding Home says
Hey girl! I'm going to go against some of the flow and say the tumbled mosiac. I too feel that the sea glass (though gorgeous) might look dated in a few years. I think you could bring in some sea glass blue with your accessories – much easier to change than a countertop. And, if in a couple years you opt to go another route with your color scheme, you're not married to a blue countertop. I think the other is more neutral. Whatever you decide I know it will be great though! And I LOVE that cushion you got! It's gorgeous! And one more thing! I'm heading to PA for the weekend and am going to beg my sisters to go to Gabe's with me! I want some good deals!!
Cheri says
I am in agreement with most of these gals on the tumbled mosaic. I don't think you would tire of it as easily as the sea glass and you can bring those sea glass colors into the room with accessories. Good luck!
kelly says
i love the sea glass color but i think you have valid points, that will be there for a long time. you can change accessories over the years, might be better to go with a neutral. it has to be something you can live with and be comfortable in choosing!
Chris says
I read your post. I closed it. I thought about it. I enlarged the pictures. Then I magnified the enlarged pictures. I read the other comments, and I came to a decision. Tumbled Mosaic. My #1 reaason? Blue is THEE color right now. It's gorgeous, light, fresh, and IN. But what about 6 months from now when another color comes along and sweeps you off your feet? It's easier to spend a few bucks here and there on the "in" color so that when another "in" color comes up, you're not stuck with it.
I am a firm believer that a neutral pallet with trendy colors as an accent is the way to go. I'm too fickle to choose a blue countertop and be in love with it a year from now. I get the impression that you're fickle–just like me! There's my vote. Good luck! Is it really a dilemma to choose between two spectacular countertops? I think not. 🙂
Beth@The Stories of A2Z says
Uh, hello mad woman? Did you miss the part about how I abhor ironing and avoid it at all costs? I didn't say I was going to USE my ironing board. But if I have to own one, it better match and look cute! 🙂
"You know who", I will forever be grateful to you for allowing me to be a part of making your wedding day beautiful!
Keep those reasons coming ladies! You're helping me here.
Shel at Dreamy Nest says
Ok. Because it's YOUR room and I wouldn't have to look at it every single day and be worried about dings, dirt, nicks, scratches, being outdated, etc – – I'd totally pick the seaglass. I puffy-heart the seaglass color. . .
BUT – – in reality, the other is safer, resellable {if you guys do move}, hides dirt, nicks, dings better and well, you may not look outdated in a few years with it.
*sigh*

THAT IRONING BOARD COVER IS DAMASK!!!
I would have squealed to 🙂
You changed my life (and my wedding) forever when you introduced me to Damask, Beth Hunter 🙂
-You know who
Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions says
I like both of them, especially shown with the cushion. BUT, I think the Tumbled Mosaic will hide dirt, scratches, and all that better than the Sea Glass because of the pattern.
Yes, I love your ironing board cover! Nice find for $2.99.
The mad woman behind the blog says
Honey, I knew there was something off about you…now I know!
Squealing over an ironing board cover! Girl, I haven't seen my ironboard in months and then it was only b/c my MIL needed it for a sewing project.
Della says
As much as I love the Seaglass, I have to say Tumbled Mosaic. Why? Because if you ever decide to change decor or whatnot, you aren't so tied in to one specific color block. JMO!
michelle@somedaycrafts says
I'm with the tumbled mosaic. I go with safe (long lasting) choices in expensive/hard to replace home decor over trendy! Either way, it will be beautiful!
Ashlee says
My vote is for the tumbled mosaic too – the seaglass is so light & when it comes to crafting – it gets messy! I wouldn't want to constantly be worried about stains. We do that enough in our own lives! I'm not sure if you're still maybe moving or not, but the tumbled mosaic may be less specific for resale too!
I love the ironing board cover. Mine is ugly seafoam green. I need a new one!!
Jemsmom says
I voted for tumbled mosaic the first time and have to go with it again. The sea glass is beautiful, but could be dated in a few years. Not for sea loving beauties such as ourselves, but overall…
Only you, can find the cutest ironing board cover to make it precious!!!!
Lanie says
Sea Glass and oh my, I could do laundry in there all day. Simply beautiful! ~Lanie
Melissa says
Tumbled Mosaic. This way you are not tied to blue should you ever want to change the room. You can always add the sea glass color through the less permanent items such as wall color and accessories.
Real Life Reslers says
Sorry girls, I'm going to have to vote tumbled mosiac. I think you can use accessories to bring the sea glass color into the room. That way, if you ever get sick of the color, you can just buy new accessories. BUT if you're not fickle like I am you might not get tired of it!
BeachNerd says
Seaglass. It is such a peaceful color with so much light. If you choose the other color, who knows, you may get sick of that too, so why go with the second when the risk of getting sick of it is equal no matter what?
Jenglamgirl says
a craft room? so jealous! Sea Glass for sure!!!! Have fun! Love the laundry closet, darling!
