Fashion for 2011
When you are putting together an outfit, use the same rules that you use when putting together a room or vignette. You are the blank canvas that you get to decorate everyday! Woohoo! Have fun with it! Just like in a vignette, you want to think layers, color, and texture. In the outfits I chose, you will see the same themes repeated over and over. Specifically you will see jeans, boots, tanks, cardigans, and scarves.

For fall and winter, I wear a ton of neutrals so this outfit is very me. Minus the heel on that shoe. I would kill myself in that stiletto.

if anyone could link me to the “Leggings, a longer shirt that covers your bum (please!), flat boots, and a scarf is a great go-to outfit when you’re tempted to wear your pajamas all day.” polyvore board that’d be amazing! i’m trying to find those boots!! thanks!
Josee says
Hi Beth,

Thanks!

I have been looking for a blog like this for forever! All the ones I’ve come across I think to myself “that outfit is a little too crazy. I would never be able to pull that off!” But this one is fantastic! The outfits are adorable, creative, yet not wild and crazy. Thank you!!! You’ve given me great and sensible outfit ideas!
Jess says
I love all these outfits, I am in the process of re-creating myself, after having two kids, a busy and hectic life, and husband I often put myself on hold and just wear the same old things in my closet from 10 years ago. It’s hard for me to visualize outfits and make them work for me. So I have found new inspiration on pinterest. Hopefully I fall in love with the new me.
Hollye says
I totally agree with you! lol…pinterest and polyvore are my new shopping inspirations! Just wish I had a closet to hold all of these cute outfits!
Gemma says
Any idea where the boots in the acorn look come from? They are perfect and no matter how hard I look I can’t find any like them these days.
Beth @A to Z says

How/where can I find out the designer for some of these pieces? Great choices!
Rachel @ A Little Bit of Ray says
I love these looks! I think that if you feel good in what you’re wearing you’ll come off polished and you’ll look good(especially if you put your outfits together like this). So if you like stripes, wear them!! That orange coat makes me wish I had one so badly!!! Love it, fun post 🙂
Jo-Anna says
Oh I love all of these looks! I massively need a make-ovah in the clothing dept! I want to look great, but not fancy, even when I’m grocery shopping or picking up the kids! Thanks for the inspiration!

I love all the looks you posted. I’m not much of a designer purse girl so I’m going to be hunting for knock offs of a few of those bags!
I posted three fall looks on my blog
(http://lovelylittlelaughter.blogspot.com/2011/08/in-spirit-of-back-to-school-shopping-i.html or pinterest)and have actually bought quite a few of the pieces already. I might have to take some pics of myself wearing my fall wardrobe soon.
You’ve got such great style and I LOVE your site. Thanks for doing what you do!
Mary Bloomgren says
We must be thinking alike….I just posted about all my thrift store blazers…fall is in the air. Love the looks you put together!

UMM…. I think drooling over all these was the most enjoyable part of my day : ) Great picks!!! Whenever I start to dread the cold weather I just need to repeat to myself: boots… BOOTS!

Hi Beth,
This is probably a dumb question, but how can I locate the pieces within polyvore.com. I’m really loving the white top on your “dinner with my man” outfit.
shelley says

Mrs.B says
Love all these outfits. I have some awesome boots..black & brown…so, when do you wear your jeans/pants inside and when do you wear them outside? What’s the “rule” supposed to be?
Beth @A to Z says
I don’t think there is a rule about the boots, but rather the jeans. If I’m wearing skinny jeans, I wear them inside my boots. If I’m wearing a boot-cut or flare pant, then I don’t try to bunch up all of that material inside my boot. Hope that helps!
Traci says
I am loving all the outfit ideas. I am considering buy a new pair of boots and I love all the different choices you showed.

I feel like I’m in a rut too 🙁 Thanks for these boards, they really help me visualize how to put an outfit together! My brain just isn’t programmed to think that way!
katie says
I LOVE all of these- jeans, boots, neutrals, and pashminas are pretty much what i live in during the fall/winter here- its so easy, versatile, and you can make 20 outfits with just a few basics. Love this post!
Chelsy says
I love them all! Even the dress at the end. I’m not really a dress person either. I can’t wait until fall comes to Texas so I can pull together some of the adorable outfits! Thanks Beth:)
Michelle Gilliland says
So very cute! I love fall colors! I’m so glad to see less purple this year.
Tys says
I have some of the same ones pinned 😉 I need me some boots!! I really need to spruce up the wardrobe… I’ve been trying to be a frugal fashionista… but I don’t have any luck like Jen with GW & thrifting. I’ll keep trying though!
Jane says
I love them all…they are put together so cute and perfect for fall/winter. I like all of the accessories, too! Thanks, Beth!
XO,
Jane
Jen (Balancing Beauty and Bedlam) says
Girl – you know I love this post and pinned it for further Frugal Fashionista inspiration. Since my series is about recreating with second hand pieces, but spending the money on the accessories, I LOVE that you featured so many.
Kathy says
Yea!!! Glad you had a fashion Friday!!!!! Great job!
kelly@imperfecthomemaking says
I’m a plus sized woman and i totally wear horizontal stripes when I want. I think it’s such a weird Idea that we would dress in such a way to try and trick people into thinking we’re a different size than we are! It’s not like I’m going to put on some stripes and all of a sudden everyone is going to be like “oh my goodness kelly, I never noticed you were fat!” What ever size you are….where what you like!!!
Beth @A to Z says
I completely agree Kelly! Fashion should be about wearing whatever feels comfortable and sassy to you. I don’t think it’s about trying to trick people though, I think it’s about wearing what you feel flatters your figure. I personally don’t like the way I look in stripes, so I don’t gravitate towards them.
kelly@imperfecthomemaking says
I just notice that I typed “where what you like” instead of “wear what you like”! Haha…guess I need another cup of coffee this morning. lol!
ella says
Oh I love your fall fashion ideas!!! I love accesories because I think it makes your wardrobe go farther.
And you fat? HA!!! Even if you were (you’re not), you are GORGEOUS!!!
Thanks for sharing and inspiring me!
XO!
Kristen516 says
