A few days ago, I was chatting with some blog friends about taxes and realized that I really need to get the business side of my blog-act together. Like a responsible small business owner, I downloaded Quickbooks and was excited to get this baby organized. Well, my almost five-year-old MacBook’s archaic operating system didn’t like Quickbooks. So….I ordered a new operating system. Today while downloading said new operating system my hard drive totally crashed. It will not start. I ran some tests and it spit out a code that the Mac people say translates to “crash”.
After receiving the news, I looked like this—minus the pumps and black business attire. I think I was still wearing my pj’s and bathrobe at the time. Don’t judge. I’m still sick. And my hard drive just crashed!

I keep chatting this mantra to myself…..

…and me and my poor Mac are scheduled for surgery tomorrow evening with some of these guys…

Right now, I’m just praying I can recover everything off of my hard drive. No, nothing is backed up. Not. one. darn. thing. Sob! The moral of this story is to stop whatever you’re doing right now and back up your computers. I literally had “back up pictures to Carbonite” on my to do list. Right after installing Quickbooks. Guess I should have thought through that one a bit more, eh? Sigh. Live and learn.
I’ll be back soon. Probably with a brand new computer
.

Oh no! I hope it all works out!
Oh bummer! I just hate computers sometimes! I hope it gets working for you soon
That has happened to me on two Macbooks within 4 years. I highly recommend DropBox!
Oh, I am so sorry. My computer has dies twice in the last 6 months. It is so stressful. Take a deep breath and forge ahead. Good luck.

There is NOTHING worse than computer problems!
Hope it works out quickly!
Hope things turn out good for you Beth I’ve been there myself. I went out and purchased a few USB Buslink external hard drives for archiving & back ups awhile back and I’m glad I did because it always happens when you least expect it.
Ack! Sorry to hear about your Mac. I’ve had my Macbook for 5 years and would hate if anything ever happened to it. You bring up a good point and it’s something that I’ve alwyays done – make sure to back-up regularly and make sure to back-up before you make any major updates.
Good luck – I hope it all works out ok.
I feel for ya girlie! I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have my computer “geek” hubby around. He has fixed my poor computer more times than I care to talk about. If you hard drive isn’t damaged, they will probably be able to rescue your pictures etc. Mine has done that before and my hubs took out the hard drive and captured all my goodies and put them on my new one. Good luck…I’ll say a prayer for you and your mac.
Hugs
Ohh no! i can relate to that, my Mac{brand new} i might add has had a melt down and my screen broke completely! Got to book him in with the Apple doc’s too…miss him already he’s like my right arm
My computer recently died too. I had windows, and it was old (purchased in early 2005) & not acting very well in the first place, so I got Dropbox & made sure everything was saved there because I kinda knew catastrophe was coming. So when it did, I just purchased the new windows 7 at work & wiped my computer out with it & downloaded the whole new operating system. It’s like a brand new computer (almost!) Then I could re-download all of my pictures & documents from Dropbox & re-installed the programs I needed & it. was. glorious. I highly recommend an online Dropbox type backup storage! Worked great!
Try and remember the breathing exercises you did when giving birth…..quelle nightmare..

Carbonite, Carbonite, Carbonite. Amen.
Hi Beth –
Oh I feel for you – I had a laptop crash on me after a year of owning it. When that dreaded blue screen showed up, I went into panic mode. I didn’t have anything saved on it and lost it all. I hope your tech guys can get yours running for you or at least long enough to get your files off of it.
Mac’s break??? I didn’t know. Mine has been so perfect so far. I’m gonna backup now…and yes I’m in my pj’s too!
Oh my gosh, I feel your pain. After having two hard drives crash on me, and losing almost everything on them, I finally decided to use Carbonite. The peace of mind is worth every single penny.
Hope you find a solution soon! I love getting a new computer, but I hate having to get everything set up again just like I like it.
Oh Beth I am so sorry to hear this, but I feel a teaching post coming on, I have no idea what carbonite is ??? So like always I come to you for inspiration and lessons
All the best sweet bloggie friend,
Kathy
I’m sure they will fix it and while you are there picking it up, grab an external hard drive. It warns you when you haven’t backed up and you’ll do it just so you don’t get the warning
Boo! I do hope they can retrieve it all for you.
In the meantime – I’ll share the family motto when it comes to computers:
“Jesus saves – so should you!”
[...] Then, I read that Beth broke her Mac. [...]
OH can I relate. My Mac also had problems. My husband unscrewed the back and voided the warranty I (he) paid $200 extra. I use an old Dell now.
Hope your Apple is home safe soon,
Kariann
