Every year since I can remember, my family has had a special Christmas morning breakfast together in our Christmas dining room. Growing up, my mom would serve us a half of a sugared pink grapefruit, a sausage-egg-hash-brown breakfast casserole, hazelnut ring-a-ling rolls, and French hot chocolate. Making special holiday memories for the family typically takes effort and planning, and I always like to decorate my Christmas dining room far in advance. It’s fun to be able to enjoy the beauty of my Christmas tablescape all season long.
My holiday decorating is usually casually chic with approachable elegance. I want everyone to feel comfortable and at home here–but also special! My boys look forward to eating at the special table all month long. 🙂 Instead of a tablecloth, I used a gorgeous cable knit throw from Pottery Barn. And yes, I will change this out to a cute runner before my kids actually eat on it. This is for decoration purposes only. We might be casual elegance around here, but I have my laundry limits!

The plates are from Birch Lane and come in blue, white, and red. I LOVE them so much and use them as our everyday dishes as well as for special occasions. The ticking stripe napkins are also from Birch Lane and come in several colors. The Santa mugs were a cheap find at Christmas Tree Shops and the little sleigh bell napkin rings are from Pier One.
I found the little lavender trees at the grocery store and just wrapped a ticking stripe napkin around each and secured with a red grosgrain ribbon. They smell heavenly with the cedar and pine garland!

I placed a poinsettia in a silver wine bucket as my centerpiece, and it’s the perfect non-fussy focal point! Inexpensive jute webbing serves as an additional decorative layer to the Christmas table.
I can almost taste the French Hot Chocolate now! If you’ve never had it before, it’s delightful. It’s basically chocolate whipped cream that you place in warmed milk or coffee. I prefer to make a mocha out of it with a shot of caramel vodka or kahlua–but it’s delightful anyway you use it.
Thanks so much for touring my Christmas dining room! I hope you feel inspired to create some casual elegance in your own space.
