Three years ago, I drew up my first plans for a simple build and created a do it yourself barn door headboard! I had these fantastic 100-year-old front door side panels from our first home just collecting cobwebs in the basement. I knew I wanted to use them in a project but just wasn’t sure what to create with them. I decided they would look fantastic as a headboard flanking a barn door. The only problem was that I didn’t have a barn door!
No problem. When you don’t have something you want, just create it! I drew up some very simple plans and got to work building a barn door frame out of 1×4’s and a sheet of beadboard. You can see the full tutorial for the DIY Barn Door Headboard here.
My headboard has served us well over the last three years and of course has undergone several looks! Below is what it first looked like in our master bedroom.
And then it took on a slightly different look when I removed the fabric from the windows and redecorated my bedroom.
And this is what it currently looks like in the guest room!
BobVila.com has chosen my headboard as an entry in their Bob Vila Thumbs Up Favorite DIY Headboard challenge. I’d love it if you’d click the picture below to be taken to the voting page. Once there click and vote for me! Thank you!
