Hi everyone! I am Jessica,
and I blog over at Four Generations One Roof.
When Beth asked me if I would like to be a guest on her blog, I was so excited!Β Bethβs blog was one of my first finds when I discovered blogging last August. Thinking back I cannot help but laugh at myself for the amount of ridiculous questions I use to email Beth (and kind of still do). Oh my goodness, I was so clueless (and still am!) about blogging and she really became my mentorβ¦..whether she wanted to or not . In fact, she is the brains behind my blog name, βfour generations one roofβ.
I started my blog to keep our friends and family updatedΒ on our living arrangement. We (my husband, son and I ) live with my parents and my grandparents! Going on four years now. We live in my childhood home that my parents have owned for the last 25 years. As I discovered the DIY blogging community, I had many moments where I was saying, βI can make thatβ! My dad, gramp and I do most of our DIY projects together. This is my {I say my because they laughed at me and wanted NO part of this} latest creation,
How to make a large couch small {with a sawzall},
By far, one of the craziest things I have ever done. I removed 2 feet or so from the middle and put it back together. You can read why I did this, see my tutorial and more pictures here.
My favorite project this year is our Family room {before and after},
By adding planks, built-ins with DIY barn doors and a slew of other design elements, this space went from boring and traditional to a space I love to hang out in! You can read all the details and see many more pictures here.
This last project was one of my first when I started blogging.Β My dad and I made barn {closet} doors to hide coats and transformed an old boring bookcase into a display area for my grams china. I remember when Beth commented on this post. A celebrity had visited and shared some love .
You can see the tutorial and many more pictures here.
Well, time for me to go but before I do, I am just wonderingβ¦β¦could you live with four generations under one roof or maybe three? If you have a chance, come visit Four Generations One Roof, read personal stories about what itβs like to live in our chaotic world and take a peek at our DIY projects.
Thank you so much Beth for inviting me to your blog home. It was an honor to visit with your readers today!

Aww thanks Deborah! You made me smile. The family room isn’t looking to magazine worthy at the moment as the Lego’s and Star Wars ships have invaded π

Hi Beth and Jessica, Like you Home Stories A to Z was one of the first blogs I found as well and a huge inspiration for me. Jessica, I also have been following your blog as well. I even watched your video featured on the news. I can relate to multi-generational living. My husband, son, and I moved in with my Grand-father when we were transitioning out of the military from over-seas. We all lived in a renovated barn together that my great-great Grandfather built. We did have separate living areas though. Now, we are looking at moving my in-laws into our home and believe it or not I think that the benefits out weigh the negatives. I am sure you understand! Keep up the great work ladies. I love following along. Lesley
jessica@fourgenerationsoneroof says
Hey Leslie! Thanks so much for the kind words π That is so coooooool you lived in a renovated barn! I want one someday. Good for you considering moving in with your inlaws. If all parties involved get along and are respectful, then that is key. Although, we have our moments around here π hehe. It’s usually my gramps and I have a beef about something. We are VERY much alike. ha. Have a great weekend and good luck with your move.

This is too funny – I’m living in my childhood home with my Mom, son, grandparents (until my gram passed away 3 years ago). I’m always looking for DIY projects.
I will be bookmarking both blogs! Can’t wait until I have more time to read!!!!!
