I’m headed to Blissdom in two weeks and like the other hundreds of bloggers going, I want to look cute for the event. I had hoped to combine my New Year’s resolution of getting healthier with my hope to begin dropping the 20 lbs I’ve accumulated over the past year and a half. It hasn’t happened. I’ve struggled with yo-yo’ing in my weight for the past six years. Basically once I hit thirty, it became much more difficult to keep weight off. Here is what I looked like celebrating my 10th wedding anniversary on the beaches of Cancun. I’ve been married 11yrs now and don’t look anything like that in my bikini at the moment. OMG, did she really just post a picture of herself in a bikini on her blog??? Yep. I did. Take a moment to gossip amongst yourselves if needed.
I know that keeping weight off comes down to diet and exercise, commitment and consistency. I know there are no magic bullets out there. I have been successful losing weight numerous times and also know that to keep it off I can’t slack off on my routine. However, I want to know what is currently working for you. Lay it on me. Tell me what exercise programs you’re enjoying. What lifestyle changes are you making that are working for you? I really want to have more energy, stop catching colds every other week, and lose these 20 lbs….and of course look like my before pic (or better) too! Advice please.

Going gluten and dairy free {because of food intolerances} has me back to college size.
I've been learning more about the raw food movement, and really, there is something to it.
I'd say the major culprits in 25+ weight gain is abuse of carbs and dairy products. The more I learn about the human body, the more it seems we are not meant to eat these foods.
My new lifestyle is challenging, but I'd say try going gluten-free or dairy free for a few weeks and see if you see an improvement in your frequent colds.
I've haven't had a cold since I quit those foods…

My advice is to don't go into an extreme of working out and dieting. Our body is smart and tells us what it needs. In fact, the reason most people who are overweight are because they're body is in fact starving. The more people work out and eat low fat foods the more the body craves for REAL nutrition. I personally don't believe in extreme working out because working out a lot when the body is already starving is not a very good thing to do. I think it be best to be kind to the body and walk, pilates, etc. If you decide to do the extreme working out phase there are such things as interval training and they work in as little as 15 minutes a day. You can look up stuff on the Paleo diet, they tend to believe that the best way to stay in shape is to live the way we did when we were hunters and gatherers and you basically do random intervals of exercise (sprints, etc.).
Other than that the most important thing is to listen to your body, eat as closely to God made things as possible instead of man made. Meaning eat that butter instead of margarine, coconut oil, etc.
Here are some links you can read if interested—180degreehealth.com
and Livingthenourishedlife.com
I am not affiliated to these people at all. I just hate to see people starve their bodies and end up with really bad health as a result. It's time to be kind to our bodies and eat REAL food.

Personally, I could never stick to rules and regiments. I am also too cheap to ever try Weight Watchers or other food programs, plus all those programs involve special food and rules to which I am against. It's too much stress to maintain. Wanting to lose weight is already stressful enough.
So I learned a "trick" where I lost weight without having to think about it so much. Always use smaller plates, bowls and cups. Dinner plates today are bigger than they used to be, but because we fill a plate so that it looks full, we eat more than we really need to, and if you take less on a big plate your eyes are telling you that you didn't get enough. If you use a salad or dessert size plate for your meal, you will eat less. If you use a small bowl, you will eat less, same for the cup if you like high calorie drinks. The great thing is that you don't have to spend all your time worrying about what you are eating (as long as you normally eat sensibly).
I did this and started walking and in less than six months I dropped two sizes.

I started using http://www.livestrong.com/myplate to track my calorie intake. It's awesome and virtually everything I eat is already in the system. All you have to do is click on it and it adds it into your calorie count for the day. I also do cardio and weight training at the gym several times a week. I lost 3 pounds the first week, but I have a lot further to go. Good luck!

Definitely check out sparkpeople.com. It is such a great site with awesome support, and best of all, it's free. It has everything from a nutrition tracker and recipes, to calorie calculators for exercise. I started it back in January 2010 and I lost 25 pounds in a few months. It is a great motivator. Of course, now I'm pregnant, so it's put a stop to my weight loss, but I have not gained a pound and I'm halfway through my pregnancy. I may wind up weighing less than when I started. 🙂

I had a 65 lb. weight loss in between the time Brian proposed to me, and the actual wedding. I’ll tell you the secret…calorie counting and cardio! Seriously. The two things people like to avoid, though. 😉 Make sure you get enough protein, vitamins and minerals in your diet. It needs to be well balanced. And eating 6 small “snack” like meals as opposed to three larger meals does wonders. It keeps you from being hungry, and it keeps your blood sugar/energy balanced. You can easily google a healthy calorie count for your current body weight, then slowly pair it down to what you’ll need to maintain your goal weight. Make sure it’s gradual so you don’t get too hungry, and so you don’t get worn out from it! As for cardio, walking, jogging, swimming…all of those are great. I personally joined a gym when I had my 65 lb. loss, but I don’t go to one anymore…I’m getting hubby to bum us a free treadmill of of his grandparents soon. 😉 But brisk walking and/or jogging around your neighborhood is great. Jillian Michaels also has an AWESOME workout called the 30 Day Shred. She has 3 levels- I’ve never been able to get past level 1! Ha. But it’s only 20 minutes, so it’s easy to fit into a busy schedule.

Over the past year I got really sick and slacked on exercise and ate too many carbs, resulting in a 10lb gain. So here's what I am doing to get myself back into my string bikinis this summer:
*Eating a healthy breakfast of either a scrambled egg with a 1/2 tsp of salsa mixed in and a pc. of whole wheat toast or steel cut oatmeal. It keeps me full and I don't want to spoil it if I start the day right.
*Snacking 2-3x a day on almonds (raw. not roasted), sometimes mixed with dried cranberries or a clementine or a cut up apple with almond butter.
*I work out at the gym doing yoga 2x/wk, and the elliptical 2-3x/wk, and I do resistance/weight training 3x/wk. The latter really affects your metabolism. The more muscle mass you have, the faster your metabolism is.
*I allow myself whatever I want, but small portions. I use my kids little snack bowls if I want something unhealthy. Because if I don't allow myself, then I know I'll end up eating too much of it later down the line.
*Whole wheat. Not whole grain, but whole wheat. No enriched anything. Pasta. Bread. Tortillas. Cookies. Everything. I even buy whole wheat pastry flour.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Thanks for doing this post. By the way, you looked FABULOUS in your bikini! I'm trying to take off some extra unwanted pounds, too! The only thing that usually does wonders for me is drinking a ton of water every day. There is a website you can go to where you put in your weight, height, and age and it calculates how much water you should be drinking each day. Water flushes out the fat, so if you cut your calories down, eat more veggies, and do a little bit of exercise each week, the weight will fall off.
Best of luck! XOXO ~Liz

I'm currently digging Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred workout. I just recently blogged my "review" on it.
In my opinion, diet is the key. I'm still struggling with loosing 10 to 15 and I exercise everyday, or darn near close to it. It's been harder to loose and keep off since I've been in my forties, and loving food doesn't help!
Good luck. Look forward to your progression. Thanks for sharing.

looks like you got some really great advice! That is one of the first things you need is support! I have a group that meets 3 mornings a week to work out. We keep each other going. However, I just hit 40 and I found that I'm going to have to go to 4 days a week! What has worked for me in my eating is to educate myself on what is in my food and what my body need to stay well. Sugar suppresses your immune system and feeds cancer. After understanding that it was easier to take sugar out. The more fruit and veggies I ate the more my body craved them and did not want the bad stuff anymore. wanting to set a good example for my kids helps too. I was blessed to find a amazing and reasonable priced source of whole food nutrition called Juice Plus. It is vine ripened and pesticide free fruits and veggie that are put into capsules and chews. My family has eaten this for 2 years and it has been the catalyst for us to make major lifelong changes in our diets and wellness. Not trying to sell you anything, but if you want more info you can get it here http://www.mjtaylorjuiceplus.com

I am not 30 yet, but have gained what I like to call my "marital bliss"..you know the newlywed I don't have to fit in my wedding dress so I can eat whatever I want-weight. Plus, I worked night shift my first year of marriage and that did beautiful things for my body- not.
I found a cheap eliptical on craigslist nearby- its nothing fancy like in a real gym, but it works- it was $50 and so now while i'm watching greys anatomy or one of the real housewives (yes…i know), I get on that eliptical and before you know it its overwith- I don't weigh, I go by how my clothes fit and how I feel, and so far- so good. Plus, drinking only water and cutting out sweets.
Good Luck!

I've been having trouble keeping weight off, too. Not to mention I've had 5 babies, 3 of them cessareans, so that tummy is not going away! But I do have a few things I do to keep my weight in a healthy range. Limit sugar, salt, and fats. I cook out of a cookbook called Quick and Healthy. The recipes really are easy to make, and delicious!! I don't feel like I am deprived at all when I use that cookbook! Don't worry so much about your weight, and how skinny you look. Focus more on how you are treating your body, and how good you feel when you are eating better. Make sure you eat food that is as close to it's natural state as possible. Try not to eat foods with ingredients that you cannot pronounce. Don't drink regular sodas, and change over to low fat and no fat in most of the products you use. Don't keep anything in the house that is too tempting to resist. Have a "fun day" once in a while, where you just eat whatever you want to for the day, otherwise you will get tired of your diet quickly. Make sure you get some exercise every day, and find an exercise buddy. My husband and I like to go for walks and do high energy yoga together 4 days a week, and a couple times a week, we like to do some sort of weight bearing workout. I like this one: http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/workout/lose-weight/total-body/the-slimmer-in-7-days-workout/
When I work out to this routine, I feel WORKED OUT! You should definitely try it!
Anyways, those are some of the things I do to keep my weight down. Hope it helps. Good luck with your weight loss!!

First of all, you are beautiful (period). Here's what has helped me not only be in shape, but has also helped me kick the colds/sinus infections/etc. to the curb: no sugar, even hidden sugars like the fact that most breads turn to sugar in your body…I eat organic, sprouted whole grain bread instead because it does not turn to sugar in your body. I use Stevia as a natural sweetner or honey, depending on what I'm eating/drinking. Sugar weakens the immune system & it's found in so many products. Here's a link that gives more info. http://www.candida-cure-recipes.com/candida-cleansing.html Also, I eat veggies, fruits, protein, organic no sugar yogurt regularly. For exercise I love Zumba as it's super fun & burns a ton of calories & helps tone. I also enjoy walking in combination with that.
The reason I did this was for my health b/c I suffered with allergies/sinus infections all of the time. Now I don't have that issue. I also take a probiotic on occasion & use a garlic/olive oil home remedy on my feet, which kills candida & boosts the immune system. Let me know if you'd like anymore info:)

You totally rocked that bikini! I've seen pictures of you on your blog and always thought that you were quite slim. I actually am very surprised that you feel that you need to lose weight because I've always thought that you look terrific.
The only way that I've ever lost an ounce was to sweat it off. I work out hard nearly every day and that's the only way that I keep weight off. I also eat A LOT but I try to make healthy meals.

I am also about 15 pounds more than I was in my 20s. I've started going to the gym in the morning, it sets the tone for my whole day and makes me not want to eat crap. I'm sure it's not always possible with kids, but that's what works for me.
Outnumbered Three To One says
I love honesty! You look adorable and I'm sure you still do! Those last 20 pounds are the hardest for everyone.. me included! The true trick is not to focus on the weight, but rather focus on creating better, healthier habits for yourself. Look at it as a lifestyle change… not just a one time change that you go through.
Try doing these 7 things every day. It has helped me tremendously.
1. Eat 4 servings of veggies and 3 servings of fruit. (You'll be surprised how much less room you have for the crap when you have to get in all of those servings.) 🙂
2. Drink 64oz. of water. (Again, you'll be amazed at how full you'll and how beneficial it is to move things through your body.)
3. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day (5-6 days a week). Find something that you enjoy doing. I LOVE running and yoga. But, you have to find what works for you. If something starts to get boring.. try something else or grab a girlfriend and hit outside or a boxing class together.. even better.
4. Stop eating after 7pm. There's a reason our tummies growl at night. It's called…digesting our food. Heaven to bid we should put more into it. 🙂 If you're absolutely ravished pop some popcorn (light in butter) or grab a banana.
5. Cut out the pop. I'm in LOVE with Dr. Pepper. But, we don't want to drink our calories on a regular basis. Save it for when you dine out or for the weekend.
6.Limit your sweets intake to one day a week. or the weekend.
7. And lastly, make healthy choices when you eat out. I'm not saying I eat salads.. If I'm going to pay to eat out, I want something that I wouldn't make at home. I love steak, chicken and salmon!
During the first season of Biggest Loser my sisters and I created an 8 week competition using these 7 areas. We invited our friends to join in and everyone put in $15 into the pot. I sent out digital tracking sheets and each day we would allocate ourselves a point for each area if we had completed it for the day. The person with the most points at the end of the 8 week challenged received the winnings from the pot. It was a FABULOUS and FUN way to jump kick myself. If that sounds like something you'd like to try with your friends, let me know and I'd be happy to send you the specifics. Good luck with your journey! You can do it!!
Melissa says
I'm no skinny mini but here's my advice anyway. 🙂 Cut out the processed food. You can eat more when you eat better. I don't deprive myself either but I don't eat a crap load of it either. One cookie won't kill your plan but deny yourself long enough and you'll eat the whole batch and then you are off your diet. The thought of "working out" makes me want to cry. So I walk to work each day, home for lunch, and then home at the end of the day. We park farther away when shopping and when I'm home alone I dance around the house. It all burns calories and doesn't make you feel like you are working out. I agree with the pedometer too. It's a great tool to keep you on track.

I've been following Zuzana at BODYROCK.TV and she's the best!! Her workouts are short (mostly 12-15 min) but very intense. Best thing, it's FREE!! Depending of your fitness level, it might be hard at first but you quickly get stronger and start seeing some definition really soon. Good luck!

Nothing more, nothing less. I just really like to run and so… I run. And I run and I run and I run some more. It keeps my entire body in shape and it's a great way for me to really just release some stress and get into my own element.
I am no stranger to weight loss, especially after I had my son. I gained 80lbs with him… But with hard work and determination it all came off and what did I do besides eat healthy? -Run.
A normal run in a day for me is 6-8miles. For example, yesterday I ran 6 miles. Today is my off day, as are weekends. Monday will be a 6 mile run and so on and so on. It works, feels great and makes my body feel that much more awesome [and it's great for the lungs and heart 🙂 ]

Beth, first of all you fabulous! Except for my honeymoon sixteen years ago, where I knew no one, I have never worn a bikini, so kudos too you for looking so great and putting it up!
When my kids were babies I figured out that working out is like therapy for me and makes me a nicer person to be around! I use to work out at the Y because they had child care. I left there about 3 years ago, worked out with some trainers in their home and then got off track for over a year. I have been back on track for almost a year again. The one thing that I find is essential for me to working out is having a scheduled time and place and someone expecting me. When I try to workout on my own, I always put everything else first because I "would get to it later". Having a scheduled tim eholds me more accountable.
It could be just meeting another friend, going to a class or whatever works for you.
Good luck on your journey towards feeling healthier, but you are a beautiful person regardless of the number on the scale.
Have a great weekend,
Laura

As you said, there's no magic bullet… but whatever you choose to do, it needs to include:
– a sensible nutrition plan you can stick to
– some kind of resistance training (loss of muscle is the main reason it "gets harder" as you age)
– cardio activities that you enjoy, or at least don't hate
– flexibility exercises
You also need to allow for some treat foods a couple of times a week, and take a day off from exercise too.
I lost 60 pounds in my early 40s and have kept it off these past seven years (I'm 50 now). I can run rings around most 25 year olds at the gym too….

I'm starting a 6 week challenge for myself. I'll put all of my rules in writing and create some kind of reward for myself (spa trip or maybe a new bathing suite…hmmmm…maybe both. haha!) Want to join me?? I already bought my Jillian Michaels 6 week six-pack DVD to get me started! 🙂

Check out this website: http://www.leighpeele.com/ and read through some of the articles in the archives. She dispels a lot of the myths in the weight loss/fitness world, and also takes a very no-nonsense, just-lose-it-and-move-on-with-you-life-already approach.
I've got a good 15 lbs to lose to get to where I'd really like to be, and her approach really resonated with me and I was ready to just dig in and lose the weight already…about a week later I found out I'm pregnant with our 2nd, so the weight loss will have to be on hold for about 6 months now 🙂

I have an app on my iPhone called "MyFitnessPal" which allows you to calculate your daily calorie consumption by adding what you eat for each meal. Almost every food is already programmed into it. You also keep track of water consumption, workouts (which add to calories you can consume, always a plus!) and more. It sounds time consuming but it is SO easy! And, it makes a big difference seeing in a number how much you are eating. You put in your weight and age and how much you want to lost (1 lb. a week, 2 lbs. a week, you get the idea) and it will tell you how many calories you can consume for that day. SO COOL!

DON'T BRING THE ENEMY HOME !! Why do we buy it if we know we are not supposed to eat it. We had a bunch of "stuff" over Christmas…finally I just tossed it the other day…I know..I know..but better to toss it than eat it if it doesn't really do our bodies any good…back to organic for me until June…10lbs to go!

Hi Beth! I lost 30 lbs last year on Weight Watchers, and gained it back while struggling with a painful medical issue which left me sitting and laying for months until it was finally diagnosed. This time I will be walking and using the Wii Fit. I hope to do some photography while on my walks. Of course, I watch my foods too. I'll calorie count or use the WW points system, which works very well! PS: You look great in that photo~and I didn't think a thing about it. Just a little jealous maybe. 😉

You are adorable! (You should join our Fit Mommy Friday meme.) The focus should not be on "losing weight" but getting consistently active. The more active you are, the less you crave junk and snacks. Then the healthier you are! I know that sounds simplistic, but it takes a lot of effort (and ambition) to keep extra busy each day.

For something that works and is healthy, my sis and niece are on the slim plan diet.
It's expensive at about 1000$ (ouch!!) but it's doctor regulated and is based on blood type for what kind of foods are right for YOU. My niece discovered a serious medical condition through the tests alone and feels like a million bucks eating the things HER body was meant to. And yes, they've reached their goal and have stayed there. It's a life long decision to eat right. Included in this plan… no snacking, eating gaps of 5 hours in between, raw pumpkin and sunflower seeds on your salads for extra fibre and holding power.
There is something about the right food for the right blood type. Worth looking into if you're serious.

OK…so many good ideas on here!! Here's my two cents:
Weight Watchers: I need to get back to this. It was very successful, and I loved it! I felt really good, and lost about 15 pounds!
30 Day Shred: I've never finished it…I'm on day 3 right now! But I'm doing it because everyone else told me to! Jillian Michaels is KICKING my butt into shape!!
Sparkpeople.com: I did this before my wedding…and I really liked it! Try it out 🙂
You are beautiful, and I can't wait to hear what you end up doing 🙂 We're right here with you!!
Funky Junk Interiors says
LOL! You are way too cute for words.
Honestly? I've stopped fighting with myself. I keep active, stay low on carbs and bad snacking and no extra weight comes on. But I'm not losing any either. 🙂
If I was serious about losing, just move more and eat 100% well with no carbs for the first while. Lost 25lb on the curves deal a few years back and it all came back when I reverted back to bad eating habits and stopped moving on a reg basis.
I'm 49 in April and I figure I've earned the right to NOT have to worry about a bikini any longer. 🙂
Best wishes with the fight! 🙂

Zumba!!! I love it. I couldnt dance before I tried it. It is soooo much fun. I have been doing it for 4.5 years and am addicted. The motto is ditch the workout, join the party. I recommend doing it in a group setting vs the DVDs. You get a ton of energy from the atmosphere. And, bonus, you burn up to 750 calories an hour. Feel free to email if you have questions!

You look amazing, but I know each person has to be comfortable in their own skin so more power to feeling better about yourself! Last November I decided I was going to make a change. It just so happened a new circuit of a boot camp class was starting in January. It is at a time and location that I can fit in my hectic schedule. After one week I am seeing results! It is amazing how far you can push yourself when you are working out with other people instead of by yourself. I also find it so much easier to eat healthy when I am working out because (1) proper foods aid in not being sore, etc. and (2) from a mental aspect eating less and healthier is easier when you don't want to ruin the hard work you put into the exercise.
I realized quickly that although I was eating healthy I was still consuming too many calories so I use sparkpeople.com to track what I eat and have been amazed that I can eat 1200 calories and not be hungry. It is a major lifestyle change that the rest of my family has not jumped on yet, so I have to cook 2 dinners (one for me and one for them) but I bought a George Foreman grill and that has really helped with making it easy to cook my chicken and fish while I cook the family something else.
I've tried appetite suppressants, etc. but nothing has worked as well with curbing my hunger as eating right and drinking water.
Another thing I am paying attention to is portion sizes. I read the label of everything and stick to the portion sizes. I find I can still have mayo, etc. by halfing the portion size it calls for.
Erin @ Two Story Cottage says
First? You need a plan. A fitness plan and some "rules" for eating. A workout can be 20 min. and you can see fab results. You have to keep in mind that you are a mom, blogger, cook, chauffer, etc, etc, etc so I would advise trying to devote 20-30 min. 5 days a week to working out. Don't deny yourself treats or pasta just remember moderation. My food rules are things like "only water at b'fast & lunch" and "a healthy breakfast during the week." Achievable and attainable things because I love food. Your rules should work for you – challenge yourself a little but don't deny yourself too much.
Other people mentioned the 30 day shred which I love. Awesome workout that really works and can be done in 20-some minutes. However, I think if you did that everyday you'd get bored. You have to vary what you do to see results. In a 5 day cycle you could do something like 3 days of "30 day shred" or a similar video and then 2 days of cardio (running/fast walking)+ pushups/situps. The next week you would switch to 3 days of cardio and 2 of your dvd or weights or whatever it is. Feel free to email me – I'd be happy to write you a little plan. I worked in athletics in my "former life" and I miss it. :):)

Some others have mentioned it too…but the Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred is an awesome workout. I've been fat like literally my whole life. And I'm not just talking 30 or 40 lbs fat, I'm talking HUGE…for 35 years! In the last 7 months I've lost 85lbs and this is the first time I've found what truly truly works. Gimmicks (as we all know) don't work. I started using myfitnesspal.com (it's free) to track my calories and exercise. They even have free iphone apps which make it really handy when you're out and about. It's so super easy and almost all of the food I've ever eaten has already been input by someone else into the database so I don't have to worry about entering all the info. I use that site, eat clean as much as possible (great book called Eating Clean by Tosca Reno) and exercise at least 5-6 days a week. I do 45 min on the treadmill, 30 min on the elliptical, and 3-4 days a week of weight training. Weight training is where it's at. The fat literally starts falling off. Also with the eating clean, when I stick to it consistently, I feel like a totally different person. It's amazing. Anyway, off my soapbox now. Good luck to you on those 20lbs and wish me luck on these last 40!!!

Oh girl… I feel your pain. I am determined to drop 20 lbs. by June when we go to Ireland. We are having family pictures made and I refuse to have a fat face! I am doing Physician's Plan and taking an appetite suppressant. I only take a half pill. I lost 10 lbs. before Christmas but it appears I found it at my MIL's! I am back on it and have started riding my bike and doing Wii games and Just Dance 2 on Wii. I sweat like a crazy woman and get a great cardio workout with just dancing. I love it because I don't feel like I am exercising! It has been great!
I wish you all the luck. You will do it.

I've been the same weight forever, and am now almost 50. I believe in mind over matter…, so my advise…, drop thoughts than contradict your goal…, like that it is "difficult to keep weight off". Or better even, don't think about weight at all, think only about being and feeling healthy! Then do whatever feels healthy. For example, if I indulge one night, I go lean the next, because that's what feels good.
Wish you the best!

lots of good tips here, Beth! You look fab in that Bikini, girl. OK,here's what I have done to stay fit & thin. I know the fact that I started working out consistently when I was 25 has helped my metabolism stay high. I've never stopped other than missing a few weeks here & there. Consistently doing something is the key. Walking, running, those fitness videos, just do something to burn those calories. I try to eat fairly healthy, but am not fanatical about what I eat & still eat sweets when I want them, just not all the time. I try not to snack a lot between meals & finish eating at night by 6:30 or so. So far it is working and I have never fluctuated more than 10 lbs. I've weighed at one time 5 lbs more than I do now, but at that time I was lifting heavier weights so some of that was muscle.
Lifting weights is a great way to get toned more quickly & it raises metabolism too. I have always done about 5 upper body exercises with weights & now I just do less weight & more reps to maintain. Just want to stay as toned as I can. And I already said I'm 54 & fairly happy with how I look for my age, but really the key for me has been consistent activity. I hope to keep on aging as gracefully as possible & will always do something to stay in shape. You can do it, just get busy and get on some sort of plan. If you exercise & be careful of you food intake, it has to work. I've heard great things about Weight Watchers & if I had to go on something, it would probably be that one.
I know you can do it!!

Here are a few things that I have done to help me eat better: 1.) http://dailyburn.com/ it's a free website where you can track the food you eat, your weight, and workouts, etc. When I saw how many calories I was eating a day I really started to rethink what I was eating. Do I really need cheese on this sandwich? 2.) Sounds lame, but I would pack a lunch and set my alarm on my phone to go off every 3-4 hours to remind me to eat. When I am at work I forget to eat. 3.) I have a water bottle with me at all times. 4.) When I want chocolate I think, "Do I really want this milk chocolate candy bar? or should I save my calories for a nice piece of Dove dark chocolate?" If I am going to eat a lot of calories for a sweet I want to eat something that taste really good. I found that losing weight has to do with the food you eat vs. how many hours your at the gym. Best of luck!

I am a WW lifer. I think it's the best way to teach yourself what to eat. And after I hit my goal, I just make good choices during the week and eat pretty much whatever on the weekend. If I get off track, I start counting for a couple weeks, and it comes right back off.
The other thing I do is NOT for the faint of heart. But it is amazing. I have never enjoyed exercise in my life. EVER. And this is NOT enjoyable either. But somehow, it's made me feel like I can do anything!! And I love it.
INSANITY from Beach Body. No weights, no equipment. 40-60 minutes. (depending)

Great pic! Sounds like you already have the inspiration to want to get healthy, which is step 1. I highly recommend the 30-Day Shred workout DVD or any you can find that combine aerobic exercise with weight training. You get a high-intensity workout in a short time. I also recommend subscribing to some inspirational and helpful magazines like Shape and Cooking Light. Cooking Light really gets me to incorporate more veggies into my diet. For me what worked to lost 90 pounds was setting up a routine and being consistent. Skipping a workout was not an option unless I was sick, cutting myself off from food at 8:00 PM helped curb late-night binges, and because I built in treats during the day (something small like Hershey's Kisses) I didn't feel cheated and devour an entire chocolate bar after dinner. Looks like you've got lots of great advice in the comments already so good luck with whatever you try!

I've been wondering if you were going to BlissDom! I'll be going for the very first time, and I really hope to meet you face-to-face.
I'm not very good at weight loss, so I'll leave any advice there to my betters. But I will tell you that, as I got a little older, I found that it became really necessary for me to add some strength training to my exercising. While simple cardio used to be plenty to keep me in shape, as I got older I found that it wasn't enough. I started doing strength training at the age of 39–and I was in the best shape of my life when I turned 40! Unfortunately, I've lost some of that over the seven years since I turned 40. I need to hit the weights again myself!

Wii Fit. I hate the concept of a gym, and I can't get a babysitter every other day anyway. And there's 3 feet of snow on the ground and it's -30 degrees, so I can't go running. Sometimes I go to Aquafit with some friends, but other than that, I'm stuck at home.
I discovered a few days ago that I can workout with the Wii even when the kids are around! So I can do it any time. And there are so many different types of activities that I don't get bored.
I hope I stick with it. According to the Wii, I'm right on the border between normal weight and overweight.
Good luck meeting your goals! I'm hoping to meet mine by my 10th anniversary (about 19 months away.)

As far as the eating goes I just eat mini lean protein meals throughout the day. I usually try not to eat more than 30 grams of carbs after 4 pm.
As for working out my husband and I do the P90x program. I cried for the first week doing it, but after that it gets easier.Plus we don't need a gym membership we do it all in our home. If you want I can burn a copy of the disks and mail them to you! Just send me an email with your address and I can pop it in the mail over the weekend!

Just a few things… 1.)I've found that if I give myself a food curfew I see a HUGE difference. So I have a self imposed rule to not eat anything after 7 at night. I've read that if you eat right before bed you don't give your body enough time to digest the food and it ends up in those nasty places (thighs and waist for me). 2.) It takes at least 2-3 weeks to see results so don't get discouraged! 3.) Set up a routine and keep to it. It's so easy to find an excuse not to exercise so just build it into your day (whatever alloted time you can – I only do a 1/2 hr cuz that's all I've got!). Good Luck!

One of my favorite "tricks" is to wear a pedometer. I set my goal to average 10,000 steps a day. Keeps me from beating myself up on a day I could only manage 7,000… because it'll just motivate me to do a little more over the next couple of days. I find that it makes even mundane tasks more fun, like brushing my teeth became a couple minutes of jumping/shaking my groove thing to get more "steps". (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MN94A2/ref=oss_product was my favorite, it keeps a record of the last 7 days, so I didn't have to!)
