I am in the process of redoing my bedroom, and the light fixture was the first thing in need of an update. I probably should have taken a before pic of the light fixture, so you could get a good laugh. Imagine a ceiling fan with teeny tiny blades. I am even more embarrassed to admit that I picked it out. Why? I don’t know. No idea. No excuses. Our contractor strongly suggested a ceiling fan in the master. I hate ceiling fans. So I chose the ugliest one? Anyhow, I came to my senses very quickly after it was installed, but there was no money to change it. Inspired by the Pottery Barn beauty below, I set out to look for something more in line with my price range. Craigslist to the rescue!
For $10, yes TEN! I landed this beauty below. The satin nickel was pretty but not what I wanted for my bedroom, so, of course, Rustoleum to the rescue!
I gave her a few coats of this and loved the look.
Tip: In order to easily spray paint a light fixture, try hanging it on a shepherds hook gardening stake. Works like a charm.
To get my PB look, I bought a strand of crystals from saveoncrafts and divided up the strand to appropriately bling my chandy.
At a suggestion of a friend, I covered the white candle-thingies with scrapbook paper. I’m not sure yet if I’m likin’ it. I’ll wait until the bedroom is complete before changing it though. Sometimes you need to see the complete picture before making these detailed decisions.
And yes, I realize these photos are pretty horrible. Please bear with me. I’m in the process of getting some needed accessories for my new camera. Hopefully my new point and shoot will take better pics. Fingers crossed!
All in all, not bad for around $20 eh? And I know….I know…you love my brick wall. You don’t have to tell me ;). I love it too.

Great inspiration! I have a dining room chandelier that I have been considering spray painting. I still love the style with white porcelain (?) but it has polished brass also which I would love to change. I think just trying to tape over everything before spraying it would take awhile. =P But after seeing yours I'm going to give mine more thought. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Very nice! Should you feel like purchasing the real one down the road, it's also on overstock.com for a fraction of the PB price. 🙂

It turned out beautiful. I love this. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. I just bought the spray paint to update our chandelier in our dining room. But had no clue what to do with the white bulb holders. Now you've inspired me to use scrap book paper. Love the look.

I am absolutely horrified when I remember the gorgeous chandelier w/handblown Swedish glass I sold for cheap cheap before we moved down here. Ask your hubby if he remembers it. I could have saved it for YOU if I had only known. 🙁 But you did a wonderful job on this one. MIL p.s. I would not give up my ceiling fan for anything.

Great job on the copy-cat look. I would add some more crystals to really "bling" it up. But that's just me. Looks fabulous! What color is the paint?

Oh yeah. That is awesomeness right there. I like the scrapbook paper look, btw. 'Course I totally understand wanting to see it in the whole room before making final choices. 'Cause I'm all about choices 🙂

The paper is certianly a plus, but maybe a different print would suit your tastes? Could anything be done with burlap – not sure what look you are trying to achieve, but burlap and bling sometimes work quite nicely together. 🙂 The best of luck! Otherwise, the light is lovely and you are on to something for sure!

I like the paper much better than the plastic alone. It's beautiful and I like the scale of it even better than the PB version.
Can you imagine I don't know how to speak Craigslist? I live under a rock!

You did so good, Beth! Not only on price, but on making your chandelier into your own version of the PB one! I love it! Great tip on using the shepherd's hook ~ I can imagine that makes painting something like this so much easier.

Great job – it looks really good! Did you have to do any prep work before spray painting, any sanding or something like that?
Beth@The Stories of A to Z says
Vanessa, when I told hubby I was meeting a strange man in a parking lot to buy a chandelier to replace the ceiling fan his response was, "okay, you know that I do NOT like this on so many levels." He also said he wouldn't hang it for me. So…I asked him to hang it for me as a Christmas present. The ceiling fan with mini-blades is looking cute in my boys' room. Good luck on convincing hubs. I just didn't ask…which is typically how I operate when it comes to home decor decisions.
Vanessa says
It looks amazing, and YES the brick wall is a striking backdrop.
P.S. I too must admit I have a ceiling fan in my bedroom , and dislike it immensely. Have to figure out how to convince hubby that he doesn't need the fan in the summer though.
Love
