I recently had the privilege of attending the Ford GoFurther event in Detroit and had an amazing time! Around 200 bloggers and journalists from a wide variety of niches came together to learn more about how Ford is responding to global trends. The first night we met at Ford Field and were treated to a tour of the Detroit Lions’ digs, dinner, dessert, and an interview with Bill Ford. I learned that Ford likes to collaborate with genius and embraces innovative thinkers. The entire conference (and it was very much like a conference) had CEO’s and leaders in the fields of design, eco-psychology (sustainability), urbanization, and technology. It was absolutely fascinating to hear how leaders in all fields are handling the demands of globalization and what Ford hopes to accomplish in the areas of eco-design.
My favorite sessions focused on design and sustainability. Christian Siriano spoke on a panel regarding sustainable design and Adrian Grenier spoke on a panel regarding eco-psychology and sustainability. It was fascinating to hear what different companies are doing to produce recycled, organic, and sustainable products. Did you know that Ford’s foam cushions are made out of soybeans? Ford is currently experimenting with making plastics out of retired, shredded, U.S. currency. In the near future, your car’s change drawer could literally be made of money :).
And of course test driving some Ford 2013 vehicles wasn’t too shabby either!

One evening, we were treated to some DIY fun at the TechZone. I tried my hand at jewelry making and created a hand-poured puzzle piece. I also made some “A to Z” stickers and placed them on a Ford beer mug which was then coated in aluminum oxide to create a lovely etched design. If you have a TechZone in your area, I recommend checking it out. It’s a DIY’ers paradise!
The evening at the TechZone we were served a bunch of yummy food, and I just could NOT get these chocolate dipped potato chips out of my mind. They were soooooo yummy! I decided to try my hand at making my own as a way of bringing the Ford Go Further experience home with me.
Ingredients Needed for Chocolate Dipped Potato Chips:
- 4 baking potatoes
- 1/2 stick melted butter (1/4 cup)
- Sea salt
- 1 bag of chocolate chips
- 1 T shortening
Step 2: Place all potato slices in a large mixing bowl and pour melted butter over slices. Mix until all slices are evenly coated with butter.
Step 3:Â Spread potato slices on parchment covered baking sheets and sprinkle with coarse sea salt (or regular salt).
Step 4: Bake in a preheated oven at 375 for around 20 minutes? The question mark is intentional. I placed them in the oven and then after 15 minutes I kept checking on them. Some of them burnt quickly, others were still not done. I had to remove some and leave others. This was by FAR the trickiest part!
Step 5:Â Melt a bag of chocolate chips in a microwave-safe container and mix in 1 tablespoon of shortening to your melted chocolate. Dip potato chips in the chocolate and place on cooled baking sheets lined with fresh parchment paper. Place in refrigerator or freezer to set the chocolate.
Step 6: Cover with more sea salt if desired.
Enjoy!
In testimony of just how good these babies are Matt ate them ALL in one evening. Granted he had a tiny bit of help from me and the boys but not much :). He said, “I find your chocolate dipped potato chips quite addictive…even without any MSG!” Yes, they should come with a warning label. Let me know if you try them!
