Tutorials and Tips Link Party {31}

Here is what I wish I felt like when talking about blogging rules and blog etiquette:

And here is what I really feel like (and how I am probably perceived):

Please, for the love of all things bloggy, just link back to this post in the post that you are linking up. If it’s too much trouble to do, just skip this party and move on to the next.

Rules:

  • Any tip or tutorial is welcome! Decorating, room makeovers, cleaning tips, recipes, crafts, and sewing all count.
  • Keep content fresh! Please do not link the same projects week after week. I will start deleting posts that you’ve linked up here several weeks in a row.
  • Link back. I only feature those who link back to me within your post. Please no “joining parties here”.
  • Have fun and enjoy the inspiration!

Want to link up and link back but aren’t sure how? Traci has a step by step tutorial for you here.

**If the code for my apparently cursed button doesn’t work, just add a text link back. Text links back are fine too. Thank you!!!**

  1. LOL at that second pic! I don’t blame you for being annoyed about it though. Linking back is so easy, there’s no excuse not to.

  2. Funny :) I’m buried in my video so no linky for me :(

  3. Thanks for hosting Beth! I LOVE the pics at the beginning. Teach them all a lesson. ;)
    xoxo,
    Amy

  4. Girl, you can’t give a lecture like that and then have a button that no worky… ;) I just used the one on your sidebar ‘cuz I couldn’t get the party one in your post to work.

    Aloha and thanks for hosting!

GAH! Seriously?? It’s still not working? I don’t know what in the world to do to make it work. This one is specifically from my programmer. My site is allergic to button codes. So sorry.

  5. Hi! Thank you for hosting! I hope I’m linking back O.K. I can’t possibly put ALL the parties I link to in one post….so I put them on a page…..is there an easier way that I might be missing???

  6. Thanks for hosting every week! I linked (but still can’t make the button work)
    Don’t worry – I added a text link!!

  7. I couldn’t get the button to work either! I’m headed back to add a text link instead. Hope that counts?

  8. Just happened to see you mention this linky on Twitter so I’ve linked up (and linked back to you on the blog post). Thanks for hosting! Looking forward to checking out the other tutorials. (I’m loving the upholstery tutorials.)

  9. Thank you for hosting this link party!!! I’m excited to see what others are working on. I’m always open to new tips and tutorials.

  10. Hey there! I linked up my Haunted House! I put your button on my side bar as I am so not computer savvy that I couldn’t figure out how to put it at the bottom! I did link back to you though! I promise!!! :-) Thanks for having a great party!

  11. Hey girl! You know we totally got your back on this one, we run into the same issues! THANK YOU for taking the time to host the party each week. There’s a lot of behind the scene effort that goes into them and we appreciate the chance to showcase our projects. Have a fabulous week!

    Heather

  12. P.S. Just tested your button out on my page and it was working fine, so I’m not sure what might not be working for others. Just wanted you to know. :)

    Heather

  13. you could never look like that second pic!

you are teaching all of us. anyone who follows you, be it the blog or FB can always learn something from you. your knowledge overflows. ;)

    thanks for the party!

    xo

  14. Hahaha – thanks for the laugh! :-) I linked up and it didn’t work. Then I rechecked MY link, re-did it, and it linked up no problem. The button is working just fine. :-) Thanks again Beth!

  15. Thanks for allowing me to join your party again!

  16. I always do a text link in my post b/c Kim from Today’s Creative Blog told me those actually do pingbacks for her versus the buttons so I don’t do the buttons. Hope that works for you! :)

  17. You and your pictures are hilarious! No, it is not too much to ask. :) Thanks for hosting the party. xoxoxo

  18. I’m glad that you are not afraid to say something about this. I will admit I am not always right on top of doing the link back thing, but I always try and put at the very least a list of the seven or eight parties I generally participate in. I don’t always link up to each party, but if I do, I change the link to the specific party post.

I get so frustrated with people who have a “link party” page because I NEVER click on it. I also hate it when I visit parties and see the same link over and over and over. I think there should be a discussion on comment etiquette, like don’t just leave a “that’s so cool” comment because it’s obvious you only want me to visit your blog and generally with that comment, I don’t bother. LOL

By the way, I liked up a few of my favorite cupcake tips. I made sure to link up, because you know, I don’t want the blog nazi coming after me! ;)

Sorry for the length, I didn’t see the FB posts and I had a lot to say!! LOL

  19. I don’t link up to some parties because I don’t know how to get the link(is it called a hyperlink) on my blog page. I just don’t know how to do it..maybe someone could show others that don’t how to do that. I’m sure its not that hard but for some of us this computer stuff is confusing. Thanks and hope to learn and link up sometime!

  20. Good grief! You must be having trouble with people not linking back! {I thought your party needed a mandatory link.} Regardless, many thanks for hosting each week, for posting awesome projects, and for all the effort you put in!
    Have a great night!

  21. Thanks for hosting the party, we’ve got your link for sure!

  22. Thanks for hosting! I know it can get frustrating not having people link back. I know how much work you must put into your party and it is much appreciated! Have a great week!
    Jenn ;)

  23. Don’t feel bad – it’s your party – you can set the rules!! Thanks for hosting – you have one of my favorite parties!

  24. Thanks for hosting, Beth, and letting me share my Fall dining room! I see lots of inspirational projects that I can’t wait to visit! *Becca*

  25. Thanks for hosting each week, Beth! I have to use a text link in the post because the button won’t work—but you are also in my sidebar and the button code works just fine there. ?????

    Blessings!

  26. Info for all party participants:
90% of bloggers who host link parties DO NOT LIKE separate link pages. It’s bad blog etiquette. Linking one post up to an excessive amount of parties is also looked down upon. Everything in moderation! Don’t be linky-glutton. Your party host is giving you traffic so the proper blog etiquette is to link to the host. It can be as simple at writing “linking up to: xoxox link party” (with the host’s name HYPERLINKED)or preferably a button that is hyperlinked. Note: you do not have to insert HTML code to link to a party!

  27. How did you find that picture of me? That is hilarious!
Thank you for being the hostess with the mostest!
    Kerry at housetalkn.blogspot.com

  28. Thanks so much for hosting. I honestly don’t think you’re coming across as nagging (or whatever school marms do)….every blog I’ve linked to requires that you link back. I usually add the link on my page after I’ve linked…just in case I have trouble linking, and some blogs won’t allow you to finish the linking process without the link in the your post. You probably know about all of those fancy things already though. I’ve only been blogging for a couple months, and I know that linking back is customary….so unless someone is really new, I don’t understand the problem. Thanks again for hosting – take care, erin

  29. The second picture is hysterical! Thanks for hosting today!

  30. Speak it sister!!! :) thanks for the party!!

  31. Haha…:) I hope they all do what you say! & I’m sure you looked much more like the first pic as you wrote this.

I’m not linking anything up here today…just looking.

  32. {Raising Hand} Miss Beth,

Thank you for letting me join your class today. I followed all your instructions and I even brought you an apple! hehehe

    Your Friend,
    Deborah

  33. I always put the links in my sidebar only because if I go back and put it on the actual post then I have to hit Publish again which redoes it in the feed. I’ve been told that’s annoying for my readers to see the post come up as new (since it was republished) even though I didn’t actually change it. Is putting the link in a sidebar okay? I’ve wondered about that…

  34. Just linked a fun rectangle wreath! Have enjoyed browsing the great projects in this linky. Thanks for hosting. I know it’s alot of work!
    Amanda

  35. I’m glad I am not the only meanie our there. I have asked, pleaded, and almost turned back flips asking that they link back in their post. Your sister told me you were writing about the importance of it when she just linked to my party. She told me about the alexa rating. I didn’t even know about that. Good info. I delete those who don’t link back in their posts and have told them so. It just isn’t that hard to do. Tell them to try hosting!

  36. What’s wrong with putting you on the sidebar? that way you are on my blog everyday??

    • Beth @A to Z says:

      Hi Ellen,
Nothing wrong it at all. I’m thrilled to be on your sidebar. However, it doesn’t let others who visit your blog know that you’re joining the party which is part of the fun of link parties. From a blogging business perspective it has to do with out bound and inbound links which are very important for SEO purposes. I rely on my Alexa Ranking and my Google Pagerank for advertising. These scores are both based on the number of quality links that I have ingoing and outgoing to my page. If you link to me week after week and then I also feature you, I am hosting a ton of outbound links to your site (which is fantastic for you) while you are only hosting one (on your sidebar or party page) back to me. Google and Alexa will dock my scores because I have a ton of outbound links without quality backlinks to me.

      Beth

      • Hi Beth! I just found you via Haven, and I am glad to have read this! I have seen the Linky Parties attributed different ways, so I am glad to know why they should be on the actual post. Thanks for the info…

From just about the Newest Newbie on the Block,

        Gwen
