Wallpaper continues to trend in 2021 and no matter what your aesthetic there is a wallpaper for you! I used wallpaper in our previous home, in both the powder room as well as my boys’ bedroom, and I have used wallpaper in four of the rooms in our current home. I’m no stranger to both the tedious application process and the typically painful wallpaper removal process, and yet I still love wallpaper! It has the ability to instantly transform your space and add dimension and character to plain walls.
I have been wanting to add wallpaper to our breakfast room for some time now, but I was having difficulty narrowing down which pattern to choose for these walls. Serena and Lily have some of the prettiest wallpapers on the market, and I especially love their neutral wallpaper patterns. Here are some of the different ones I was considering for this space. The herringbone pattern paper is actually incredibly similar to the pattern you see on my blog sidebar which is probably why I was so attracted to it! It was the only non flora and fauna one I was considering.

After looking at some samples, I ended up choosing the Serena and Lily wallpaper pattern Meadowsweet in Smoke. The pattern is a combination of gray swirling florals and ferns that is subtle yet beautiful. The wallpaper adds interest and texture to the space without overpowering the room’s other focal points. I absolutely love how it turned out!
I used a no-damage technique for applying the wallpaper to the wall, and I’ll document my experience with the application process in a separate blog post with a full tutorial for you. The Meadowsweet wallpaper is incredibly thick, opaque, and lightly embossed. It’s definitely some of the highest quality paper I’ve ever worked with before. It’s very stiff to work with, so if you’re used to wallpapering with thinner wallpapers it may take some getting used to.
I used three rolls of wallpaper to cover two walls. The pattern on the Meadowsweet wallpaper repeats every 20.5″ and was the most challenging to match around all of the many windows in this room.
This is the room where I drink my morning coffee while watching the cows graze out in the pasture. The new wallpaper has definitely sweetened the view for me!
I also purchased the Hillview Pillow Cover and pillow insert for my breakfast room bench. I highly recommend going ahead and also purchasing the affordable pillow inserts. They are high quality and perfect for the gorgeous pillow covers.
I may end up moving this pillow to our primary bedroom because I love it so much! But for now it looks perfect in this space and really complements the wallpaper.
I have shiplap on the other two walls in the breakfast room which look great with the cottage look of the wallpaper.
Fresh limelight hydrangeas from the garden create the centerpiece for the table.
Thanks for stopping by today to see the updates to our home! I hope you love the addition of the Meadowsweet wallpaper as much as I do.
