Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you.
Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
-Khalil Gibran
Please ignore the mowed-on-teeth-marked truffle below. I couldn’t resist trying one before I thought to take a picture. And yes, they were as good as they look!
Next, we calorie-burned our way up a trail to the top of this “mount”. It was warm, breezy and beautiful.
And with tears in his eyes Matt read me the most beautiful Wendell Berry poem and then…
We smooched (and saw a black snake in the crack of a rock which ruined the mood a bit) so hiked back down to get ready for the next event. Yes, there’s more! After changing, primping, and curling my hair in the park’s bathroom (which fortunately for me was the nicest park bathroom I’ve ever seen), we headed to dinner at my favorite teahouse Camellia’s Sin.
Choosing your hat and wearing it during tea is all part of the fun. (I have a picture of Matt in this very hat but he made me PROMISE not to post it. So sorry that I can’t make you laugh out loud. But a promise is a promise.)
He gave me another romantic card which contained these perfect words:

I love Khalil Gibran and it's been so long since I've seen that quote–it used to be one of my favorites! This sounds like a wonderful day, and I'm glad you kept your promise (and marriage!) to keep that photo off of the blog. 🙂 Your hair looks really cute wavy.

Okay, Matt — could you raise the bar a little higher for us guys??? Only an authentic man with an unshakable masculine soul could have devised such a day that included truffles, hiking, a tea house, a dazzling ring, and poetry… I can’t imagine what your 25th anniversary will be like! Congratulations, with great admiration and love,
Dad
