Why I chose to go green with my clean.
Over the course of the last year, I implemented several healthy lifestyle changes which greatly benefitted me and my family! I committed to a ketogenic diet, became a licensed Zumba instructor, and curbed how much time I spend online. As a result, I’m happier, healthier, and much more energetic! I am ready to take things to the next level by adopting a healthier cleaning and laundry routine.
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have caught the expensive drama we encountered from a clogged septic tank! It was a nightmare that I hope not to experience again. I hired two separate teams of plumbers to help me fix the issue and asked advice on how to avoid something like this from happening again. They unanimously agreed that avoiding bleach and any other harsh chemicals entering the septic system is vital. This includes anything that goes down the drain or into the laundry machine. Harsh chemicals throw off the balance of the healthy bacteria in the septic system and can cause it to not function properly. All the more reason for me to go green in my cleaning routine!
Why choose Home Made Simple cleaning and laundry products?
You may already be familiar with Home Made Simple, the Emmy-award winning TV show with Laila Ali on OWN. They have been committed to creating homes families love to live in for over fifteen years! Home Made Simple recently took their passion for the home one step further by releasing a brand new suite of plant-based cleaning products that really work and get the job done. The new collection from Home Made Simple gently cares for your family’s home, using everything you need to get the job done, and nothing that you don’t. Having just celebrated Earth Day, it’s a great time to consider what small changes you can make to keep our planet healthier!
Here are some things I already love about the products after using them for just a few weeks:
- Depending on the product, 75%-95% of the product ingredients are plant-derived. I feel good about using them around kids and pets.
- There are NO harsh chemical smells with any of the cleaners.
- They smell fresh and inviting! The lemon and lavender scents are amazing! I haven’t tried the rosemary scent yet but will be ordering it here from Walmart to try soon.
- The products are tough on stains in dirt. The laundry products work even on cold cycle.
- Packaging is pretty enough to stay on the counter and all plastic bottles are recyclable.
Tips for beginning a greener cleaning and laundry routine.
Happiness is the smell of a freshly cleaned house.
1. Switch your cleaning products to Home Made Simple!
Try the earth-friendly line of Home Made Simple cleaning products for yourself and get a clean you can feel good about.
2. Use plants and flowers to freshen up the air in a room instead of chemicals.
Houseplants are incredibly effective at purifying the air and look beautiful in your decor. Fragrant fresh flowers are a fun splurge that brighten any space and naturally smell amazing!
3. Use the eco setting on your laundry machine and air dry clothes when possible.
For small loads of laundry, be sure to use the eco setting on your machine which uses less water. Consider washing your clothes at the lowest water temp available to save on energy. Washing your clothing in cold water saves energy and cuts down on your electric bill. Likewise, nothing smells as amazing as a freshly line-dried load of laundry. If feasible, skip the dryer and allow your small load to dry in the sun.
4. Invest in some wool dryer balls.
I’ve been using the unscented Home Made Simple fabric softener to keep our clothes soft and I also invested in a set of wool dryer balls. I am thrilled with how well they work! The wool dryer balls help keep my clothing from clumping up in the dryer and therefore clothes dry faster. They also effectively tackle static and won’t irritate sensitive skin. They are good for around 1000 uses so cut down on waste. Used in conjunction with Home Made Simple laundry products they complement my green laundry routine!
I hope you’ll join me in implementing a greener cleaning and laundry routine! You can find Home Made Simple products at Walmart or shop online here for them at Walmart.com.
