By popular request, today I’m going to teach you how to create a yarn wreath with felt flowers! Before I begin though, I need to note that I was 100% inspired by Itz Fitz etsy shop. I saw her wreaths pinned all over pinerest and had to track down the source. She makes the most GORGEOUS wreaths. Check them out here.
Okay, for this project, here is what you will need:
- wreath form
- yarn
- felt (or fleece)
- embellishments (optional)
- glue gun
The first thing you’ll do is wrap your yarn around your wreath form. Just wrap and pull taut, wrap and pull taut until the cows come home….or until you’re satisfied with the look….whichever comes first. (I used the entire ball of brown yarn.)
If you like the look of the “x’s” on the wreath, take coordinating yarn and wrap it around in one direction. Then cut and secure with glue in the back and wrap it the same way in the opposite direction. This will create a cute “x” pattern with your yarn.
And now onto the felt flowers. In trying to figure out how to make these, I read several tutorials but none explained how to create the “two tone” effect. I’m sure there is some fabulously creative way to make these (other than the way I’m going to show you) but this is what I did….
Please watch the video tutorial and I’ll explain! **Note: If the video does not appear below, please click here to be taken to the video.**
So that’s it! And here is what you’ll end up with after your labor is finished.
Ack! I love it. So incredibly cute that I can’t wait to make another one for Christmas :)!

Thanks for this tutorial. I made my first yarn wreath. However, I did not use felt flowers… Although, they are super cute! It’s on my attempt list for the next round.

I love your wreath! I followed your tutorial today and made one of my own. But how did you attach the embellishments to the wreath? That’s the only part I can’t figure out.
Erin S. says
I adore this wreath, I’m in the process of making one for myself! And I just LOVE your nails in the video!
Amanda S says
I found this yesterday, I had it saved from a while back and forgot about all the good stuff you do. I was inspired by your video and hunted around my crafty room for things to use to make my own. Wrapping the yarn would make me crazy— takes SO long, so I used cut fabric strips. Still got a cute look. I directed my mother in law to your blog and she wants me to make her a wreath. Thanks for the easy weekend project. 🙂
Can’t wait to make one for the other seasons!

This is so pretty! I’m glad you noted that you used the whole ball of yarn too – I probably would have started doing one using left-over yarn from something and been VERY sorry. Thanks for sharing.
Saw you on Tatertots and Jello

Just found your blog! Love the wreath. I have not crafted in so long, but ran to A.C. Moore today for supplies. Do you wrap the yarn around more than once? I have a few straw spots showing. And it so, would you do the whole wreath or just those spots? I am soooo excited!

I simply love this and can’t wait to make one – and see your Christmas version ….. I have so much leftover yarn that will be perfect for such a project.

Hi Beth,
I love your blog- it is one of my all-time favorites! I love your yarn wreath! I just made one with a styrofoam wreath form (I’m hooked now). I’m thinking of making some more yarn wreaths with the straw wreath form for a little different look. I’m just wondering if the straw form makes the wreath look bumpy or uneven at all? In your pictures it looks great, but I’m just wondering if you noticed it at all? Thanks!
Tatum Baker
Beth @A to Z says
Hi Tatum,
Thank you! I took the plastic off the wreath because I feared it would shine through the yarn but I think it would have been easier to wrap with the plastic wrapping still on. It wasn’t lumpy at all but in a few places the straw wanted to peek out. I just wrapped it a few times extra on those spots.

I love this wreath, Beth! And your inspiration wreaths were gorgeous as well. I wanted to share this tutorial with you the I wrote on felt flowers – they look different than the ones you created and thought you could use the idea for another project in the future ~ http://www.sasinteriors.net/2011/01/tutorial-felt-flowers/

Very cool! How do you finish the yarn when your wrapping is complete? Tuck it in the end? I would imagine you would have to glue it somehow?
Or did I miss it in the post >.<

I love your very technical terms like “shoving”, “petally”, and “decorative scissor thingies”!! Ha! These are so cute! I am the girl who twirls any strings like hoodie strings and such all the time. I could surely do this! Very very cute and I love your nail polish!

That is an adorable wreath. I think my favorite part is the criss-crossing yarn that almost gives it an argyle look! The flowers are pretty spectacular too!

Love this wreath and tutorial! I’ve made lots of felt flowers but never thought about using the center as a kind of base or doing them two-tone. That’s what I love about craft blogs…getting new ideas!

Cute wreath and great tute. Since I am a visual learner the tutes really help me. Thanks Beth. Very creative.

Love the wreath! I tried to follow the video, but the music was too loud and distracting, and I couldn;t really see what you were doing when you were folding in the fabric to start the flower. I have a rough idea though, and appreciate your efforts.
Beth @A to Z says
Music??? There isn’t any music on this video.

Thanks for the tutorial! I really like the way your crossed the additional colors of yarn- it gives it so much more spunk!

I love it too. The colors are great! I can’t watch the video because I am at work but I will be back.
I never would have picked up the straw wreath because they don’t fit my taste but seeing how amazing it looks covered I must go and get some!
