Follow these easy and affordable tips on how to make your bathroom feel more luxurious without lifting a sledgehammer!
Clever Ways to Make Your Current Bathroom Feel More Luxurious
One of the most difficult things about selling our previous home was having to say goodbye to my newly renovated dream bathroom! Our farmhouse bathroom renovation complete with drool-worthy marble tile, clawfoot tub, and rain shower was only four months old when we sold our home. Our new home has a master bath that I would love to gut and completely overhaul, but our budget just doesn’t allow for that right now! Perhaps you can relate? Fortunately there are numerous budget-friendly ways to update your bathroom and make it feel more luxurious without having to take a sledgehammer to your dated tub!
Tip 1: Glam up your walls.
You can completely transform the look of ANY room using DIY wall treatments such as paint, beadboard, wainscotting, shiplap, board and batten, and wallpaper. All of these options are budget-friendly and manageable to tackle for the beginning DIY’er. You can even use wallpaper that looks like wood wall treatments! For example, I used beadboard wallpaper in our powder bath and molding wallpaper in our master bedroom. In the collage below, notice how the change in wall color and addition of beadboard updates the space!
Tip 2: Add fresh towels.
One of the most affordable and fun ways to play with color, texture, and coziness in your bath is by updating your towels. Look for towels that have a luxe and plush appearance.
Tip 3: Hang it up!
If you have a place for everything, it’s much easier to keep everything in its place! Cluttered and messy spaces never look as beautiful as tidy and clean spaces. While towel bars are always a beautiful option, simple wall hooks might be even better! Hanging a towel or robe on a hook allows even the messiest and youngest in the family to keep items off of the floor and where they belong. You can also hang premade coat racks to your bathroom wall in a style that suits your aesthetic.
Tip 4: Incorporate fresh plants and flowers.
Every space in the home looks more beautiful with the addition of plants and flowers; your bathroom is no exception. The humidity and warmth of a bathroom makes it conducive to many houseplants! Some plants that thrive in bathrooms with plenty of natural light are ferns, orchids, and peace lillies. If you don’t have a green thumb, the occasional bunch of grocery store flowers does wonders for sprucing up your space!
Tip 5: Bring in the light!
There is nothing like lighting to set the mood and tone of a space! Natural light, light fixtures, and candles are all important elements that elevate the beauty of your bathroom. Natural light always makes a room look more beautiful; however, if your window shades cannot be frequently open due to privacy concerns, consider placing privacy film on the window glass to allow more natural light into your space. If your bathroom still boasts vanity strip lighting (or what I affectionately refer to as Ms. Piggy Lighting), it might be time to consider updating your bathroom light fixtures! For under $100 you can find myriads of beautiful bath fixtures. For areas where light fixtures may be against code (like over a tub), consider adding decorative candles.
