Cover it up. Those three little words make up some of the best do-it-yourself decorating advice you will ever receive! If it is an eye sore, if it bugs you, if you are tired of looking at it, then start brainstorming today ways you can cover it up. To show you that I practice what I preach in my own home, let’s take a look at my kitchen. My kitchen cabinets originally were a dark brown mahogany color. I wanted something lighter and brighter in this space, so I chose to cover up the wood with white paint. I also became bored with the original red walls so gave those a few coats of fresh paint which completely changed the look and feel of the space. You can see in the picture below that I didn’t even bother painting over the red backsplash and hid it behind a covering of garden stones. Behind all of those beautiful stones & grout hides an ugly red wall, a layer of sticky mesh, and some hot glue! No one will ever know!
I also have a thing about kitchen outlets–I simply do not like looking at them. If there is not currently an appliance covering up my kitchen outlet, then I use some stacking, leaning, and object-placing wizardry to disguise the offenders. A few well-placed decor items can hide a multitude of eyesores. Below you can see that my cutting boards hide one ugly outlet while a cute kitchen scale hides another.
