Our lush green breakfast room is filled with simple DIY decorating projects and decor touches that have it looking beautiful for the season. Here are some tips on how to add simple touches of green to enliven any space this summer!
The kids are almost out of school and summer is so close we can almost taste the watermelon and homegrown tomatoes! I love freshening up our home at the change of each season and decided to spruce up the breakfast room for early summer. This small space may be the tiniest room in the house, but it also seems to be everyone’s favorite! It’s where we eat most of our meals and where I often sit to work or catch up on social media. The room receives a ton of natural light and is always cozy and welcoming!
Tip 1: Cut branches from the yard and place in an unexpected decorative container to create a summery centerpiece.
Ice buckets, pails, crocks, etc. make great vases for floral arrangements! For an inexpensive and no-nonsense look, I love to clip a few branches from the yard. If you don’t readily have access to your own branches, consider asking a friend or take a walk through some woods with some clippers in hand.😉
Tip 2: Add some faux greenery to your space.
Who says garlands are only for Christmastime? A few well-placed faux garlands can enliven a space and signal the change of seasons. I found these garlands at Hobby Lobby and enjoy using them in various ways throughout the year.
Tip 3: Always mix in real greenery and plants with the faux!
Faux plants have their place, but you can’t beat the real deal! To make your fake plants look less faux, find simple ways to incorporate fresh plants and greenery into your decor.
A few sprigs of flowers placed in flower water picks look beautiful when tucked into shelf decor!
Adding inexpensive plants to your shelf decor is a beautiful way to update your decor for spring and summer! Find interesting containers to display your plants. I just slipped the plants in their original containers into faux olive buckets and a marble planter. You don’t always have to replant your plants if you don’t feel like it! This gives you the option of easily changing the container to fit your mood or decor.
Tip 4: Update your toss pillows to fit the season!
Toss pillows are the stuffed animals of grown women! I don’t think you can ever have too many options! I like to buy inexpensive throw pillow covers on Amazon and just update the covers on my down toss pillows each season. The beige gingham check covers are only $12 for two covers on Amazon prime! Shop for them here.
Your dining chairs can also be updated with slipcovers! I bought these cotton duck chair slipcovers years ago and still love how they look!
Thanks so much for stopping by to see my updated breakfast room! I hope these simple tips inspire you to freshen up a small space in your own home for summer!
