For those of you just joining me, I’m house-sitting at my parents’ home this week. Above is one of the many examples of gorgeous Victorians located in their neighborhood. I’ll show you more pics when I can wake up early enough to sneak around with my camera. I was out this morning before 7am and apparently that wasn’t early enough. I kept getting questioned by suspicious neighbors out walking their dogs. Granted, taking pictures of people’s mailboxes might rouse some suspicion from even the non-nosey types. Hi, have we met? Are you one of our neighbors? What are you taking pictures of this morning? I thought about faking a foreign accent. Everyone is forgiving of “crazy foreigners” photographing strange objects, but I wasn’t sure that I could pull it off under pressure. Somehow the truth sounded equally ridiculous, and I really didn’t feel like explaining that I am a blogger who finds things like decorated mailboxes interesting. So I did what I do best; I dodged the question and commented on the weather. I think it worked, but I half-expected to see the police circling the neighborhood for me.
All of that being said, please enjoy these pics! We start our mailbox tour with a simple flower box motif.
We move onto the popular beach-themed mailbox cover.
Next, we have a rusty fish motif outdone by their “hotdog” neighbor.
Speaking of dogs, my boys LOVE this mailbox and want to visit it on each of our walks. These people have small children as well, so I’m sure it influenced their mailbox selection.
Another marine-themed box.
Can we ever get enough of the flip-flop paraphernalia? I like the plantings underneath the box. Their garden is equally impressive. I’ll try to take a contraband photo of it later.
These people cleverly wrapped nautical rope around their box and stand.
And of course you can guess that I love this one! This would be so easy to do with a stencil.
And the grand finale….. These neighbors win the pretend Mailbox Mania award for most impressive box! I’m guessing they were trying to keep it in the spirit of their back patio which is incredible. I will try sneaking onto it tomorrow to get some pics. The patio is complete with outdoor brick fireplace and built in brick grill and kitchen. I might get arrested for trespassing, so if you don’t hear from me for awhile you’ll know where I am :).
And these guys are trying to keep up with the Jones’. They refuse to be outdone by Mailbox Mania pretend-award-winners, so are going for their own version of mailbox mecca. I think it will look fantastic when they are done.
So how about you? What does your mailbox look like? Which one of the above is your favorites? Any inspiration to decorate your mailbox? I’m inspired to decorate my parents. They might just come home to a monogrammed one!

so now I'm reading backwards through your blog & enjoying it thoroughly! I just had to comment on this one, b/c there is a stretch of road in my town with dozens of mailboxes that I so want to take pictures of…but not because they are beautiful…they are all rusty and old and falling apart…and I just love them! But am too afraid of suspicious homeowners (with shotguns, quite likely!) to take a walk there and get the shots I want. I'm resorting to attempting shots out my car window as I drive by!
oh…and 70% of the mailboxes in my neighborhood are like that crazy brick one you showed. gardens & all!

Those letterboxes are so cute! I've never seen anything like it before.
But the house! So beautiful, picture postcard perfect. And then I saw your parents house – magnificent!

Jennifer, my favorite was the monogram too! It's a purchased mailbox cover, but I think you could duplicate it with a stencil. If you don't mind shelling out $17 then here's a site that carries them http://www.naturesroom.com/bmaco.html

We still need to update our mailbox (we've been renovating inside & outside the house for almost a year now). My fave was the one you cuold do with a stencil. Would you just stencil it directly onto the box? Or is it on some kind of material? I couldn't tell.
