I’m excited to share this first look at my updated kitchen for fall! With all of the unexpected changes in the world this year, having a comforting home is more important to me than ever. My goal this holiday season is to create soothing spaces where our family can connect, refresh, make memories, and embrace the simple joys. We spend the majority of our time together in the kitchen, and I was ready to make a few changes to this space. I’ll be sharing in separate blog posts our DIY hood tutorial and how I updated the kitchen hardware, but today I’m excited to share with you tips for creating a cozy and functional fall kitchen using key kitchen accessories from Walmart.
You all know that I love shopping on Walmart.com for their broad, beautiful, affordable, and convenient assortment of kitchen must-haves! You can shop for kitchen accessories within this post simply by clicking the links and/or product pictures. Also, be sure to browse my curated shopping boutique at the bottom of the post for all of my kitchen accessory recommendations. I was able to purchase everything I needed for my kitchen and have the items shipped right to my door, or to the store. Many Walmart items have a Next Day Delivery, or in-store pickup option which is so convenient. For example, if you need something for your kitchen ASAP you can click here on “NextDay delivery” to shop for kitchen items that are eligible for quick shipping.
Tips for Creating a Cozy Kitchen
Tip 1: Create a cozy focal point with seasonal items.
Honor each season in your kitchen by corralling the following onto a pretty tray: a bowl of fruit, a seasonal plant (or fresh flowers), and a yummy smelling candle! These three fail-safe items will always create a warm welcome for your friends and family. I purchased the tray and candle online and picked up the Better Homes & Gardens Dahlia in-store.
If you love candles and you’re not familiar with Better Homes & Gardens candles, then let me be the first to introduce you to your newfound love affair! I am obsessed with their new line of candles and the new packaging is just perfect. The large two-wick candles are $11.87 and the smaller ones retail for $9.87. I currently have Soft Cashmere Amber and Farm Apple Pumpkin burning together in my cozy fall kitchen and the smell is amazing!
Tip 2: Use attractive canisters to store frequently used kitchen items.
The “rules” regarding what should and shouldn’t be stored on kitchen countertops vary. In our kitchen, we do not have a walk-in pantry, so I compensate by using more canisters on the countertops than some might prefer. I believe that if you keep your storage containers pretty, you can get away with keeping more out in the open. I store all of our bread in the large bread box which holds up to two loaves of bread and a package of bagels. Sugar, flour, and almond flour are stored in lidded glass containers with metal scoops and are convenient for all of the bakers in the family! On the left side of the kitchen above the microwave, I store frequently used grains in glass jars with clamp lids.
The wood utensils stay conveniently corralled in an utensil holder next to the stove. I also keep dish soap, hand soap, and wooden dish brushes out and ready to use at all times. The amber bottles look beautiful and are easy to refill. I use an easy-to-clean melamine tray to keep the soaps tidy.
On our coffee bar, I store tea, cocoa, and collagen in three beautiful lidded containers. The hobnail containers are both from BHG Walmart and are adorable and super affordable.
Tip 3: Create a kitchen counter oil tray.
All members of my family cook including my two boys and with everyone home so much now with online learning that means on most days all three meals are being cooked at home. Salt, pepper, oil, and butter are items we use frequently, and I like to keep them easily accessible on a round wood cheese board. My default rule is that if it’s going to be out on the counter, then it needs to be functional but pretty!
The hobnail butter dish matches my coffee canisters and looks perfect with my kitchen decor! BHG Walmart also carries several affordable and stylish 3-pack kitchen towels.

Tip 4: Plants add life to any space! Add at least one plant to your kitchen space to cozy it up.
Every room needs a bit of live greenery. Faux plants will do in a pinch, but live plants freshen your air and literally breathe life into a space. I purchased these cute boxwood topiaries in-store at Walmart in the spring and recently updated their planters with these cute white ceramic planters from BHG Walmart. If you don’t have the counter space for plants, consider a hanging planter near your kitchen window.
Tip 5: Add artwork to your kitchen.
Adding a few pieces of beautiful artwork to your kitchen instantly elevates the space! You can shop for second hand paint by numbers, lithograph prints, or vintage artisan pieces but you can also print your own! I will soon do an entire blog post dedicated to this tip. I printed some artwork using Walmart.com’s photo service and had the posters shipped to my door. My frames were also purchased on Walmart.com and shipped within two days to my door!

While I gravitate toward a lot more color, my kitchen is also very neutral. I love your cute little touches.
Thanks so much!
This is beautiful, although I immediately missed the peel-n-stock floor tile, and am curious why you chose to remove? Just change of style or did it not wear well? Been wanting to use this since first seeing you do it. Thanks!
Thanks and I know you’re not alone in that thought! So I loved the stickers and they were very fun, but very busy. They were wearing great but being home so much now with Covid I needed something calmer in the kitchen. Honestly, the space photographs better with the stickers, but in-person it looks better without them–especially with the flow of the open floor plan.
Loved this! Thanks!
