If you are thinking of tackling a kitchen remodel or kitchen refresh this year, then here are some kitchen trends for you to consider!
- Open Shelving
- “Focal Point” Kitchen Hoods
- Wall of Windows Above the Kitchen Sink
- Persian & Oriental Rugs
- Patterned Tile Backsplash
Open Shelving
Love them or hate them, open kitchen shelving continues to be an enduring trend. Open shelving offers a lovely minimalistic look that allows you to style and showcase your dishes as accessories–which is fun! I currently have a combination of open shelving (doors removed from cabinets) and closed shelving in my kitchen. Although I love the convenience of my open shelves, I also love to close off the mess in my doored cabinets. What can I say? I’m a lover of the combo-option. Below are some gorgeous pictures demonstrating how you might implement this trend in your own home. Click the links below each picture to be taken to the original source.

“Focal Point” Kitchen Hoods
Over the last decade, the kitchen range hood has gone from being cleverly disguised within the cabinetry to being the true focal point in the kitchen. Wood, copper, and stainless steel hoods are all fashionable options to consider for your next kitchen remodel. My favorite look is a custom wood plank hood.

Wall of Windows Above the Kitchen Sink
One kitchen trend that has stood out to me over the last year or so is the wall of windows above the kitchen sink. This isn’t necessarily a “new” trend, but it is one I’ve seen more frequently in kitchen remodels. If you have a beautiful view above your kitchen sink, then it might be worth forgoing your storage space for more natural light. I also love the black window sash trend that is still going strong! It’s like eyeliner for your windows. 🙂
Persian & Oriental Rugs in the Kitchen
Placing a persian, turkish, or oriental rug in your kitchen is a chic way to add a bold pop of color to your space. I love having rugs in the kitchen, but honestly I’ve never found it a practical option with messy kids and two dogs—and yes, I’ve tried…several times. Choosing an indoor/outdoor oriental rug might be best for the kitchen!

Patterned Tile Backsplash {Hold the 4″ Strip}
When updating your kitchen countertops, your contractor might try and talk you into purchasing the 4″ backsplash that matches your quartz, granite, marble, butcher block, laminate counters. The current trend is to have the backsplash flush with the counters, so you may want to consider eliminating the installation of the 4″ strip.
Choosing a beautiful patterned backsplash is a fun way to add depth, texture, and personality to your kitchen. I love all of the mosaic, patterned, and textured tile options that are trending! While I still love the clean look of subway tile, it is refreshing to see designers and homeowners venture beyond the rectangle. 😉

Yes to the rug concerns! Thank you for providing sensible options for such a busy room (and the rest of the house). And rug that I could hose down is a big two thumbs up.

Does anyone else worry about dust on their dishes with open shelving or is it just me?
Beth says
I have some open shelves in my kitchen and most of the dishes are ones we use everyday so they don’t have time to collect dust. But yes, for dishes you don’t use as frequently dust will definitely be an issue!

Thanks for sharing the latest kitchen trends. I’m glad that eye-catching hoods are trending. We have an old copper hood that I’m hoping to clean up. I would love the wall of windows above my sink, but sadly, I don’t think that’s in the budget. It’s fun to look at pictures and dream though.

It’s always fun to dream! While I do love my own kitchen it certainly isn’t my “dream kitchen”. But I don’t think we’ll ever be able to afford my dream kitchen, so my philosophy is to always try and make the best of what we can afford. 🙂
