My kids hate pumpkin pie. Perhaps yours do to. I thought I would put together a grouping of Thanksgiving treats that are kid-approved. If my kids approve them, yours are bound to! Last year, my mom put together this fun turkey sugar cookie craft.
Each grandkid had a great time decorating their own cookie. In case anyone is wondering, those questionable looking turkey legs are made from chocolate marshmallows.
Another kid-approved dessert? Cupcakes. Alright, so maybe not pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, but those cute chocolate-topped-carmel acorn garnishes are too cute to resist.
And for the life of me I cannot find my own picture of this fun hors d’oeuvre. This cute guy below makes a fun edible centerpiece on the kids table. In place of the melon, I have always used a pineapple and I skip the peppers because most children won’t eat them…and they are expensive!
Below is an adorable idea from FamilyFun.com. I haven’t tried these yet but I’m sure they would be a hit!
Lastly, here is a fun snack to give out to the kids to tide them over before dinner, or better yet to have the kids make as gifts for teachers, neighbors, friends, etc.. Grateful G.O.R.P.
For those of you unaccustomed to hitting the trails, G.O.R.P. is an acronym for “Gobs—or Good Old–Raisins and Peanuts”, or “Granola Oats Raisins and Peanuts”, or “Gobs of Raw Protein”. In a nutshell (make that a peanut one), it is trail mix. It is easy to make, yummy to eat, and pleases most people. The tags on the bags were made on scrapblog.com, exported as JPEG’s and then printed from Word. It sounds more complicated than it really is. Trust me, if I can do it anybody can.
How about you? Any kid-approved (or picky-adult-approved) treats for Thanksgiving that you’d like to share? I for one will be having a slice of pumpkin pie and perhaps a slice of pecan pie too. What? Don’t look at me like that. It’s the holidays after all :).

I gotta tell you, I hate pumpkin anything, but I made your cupcakes, and Holly Hannah!! Those were soooo good! My guests cleared through half of them before I could ice them! Thanks for the great recipe! Very cute and yummy!

I love that big fruit turkey! So fun! We don't have a lot of little ones in our family though. : ( Basically just one that is young enough to care. And I think he likes pumpkin pie! (As long as there is Cool Whip!)

I'll be having pumpkin pie, too, and I don't have kids, so everything is possible (though it shouldn't be)!!! The tags on the bag are so cute and great for a personal touch. The mix would also make a very good & inexpensive gift for company & neighbors.

So so cute! I love the idea of the fruit turkey! Our little guy is on a GF/WF and dairy free diet so this is a perfect little treat for him. It's a neat little way to make his food a little more fun and special! Thanks for the post!

We don't have any little ones in our home anymore but I am going to email your link to my niece. These are just too cute. We make the GORP with the poem and take it to our friends that have to work outside the home on Thanksgiving. Nurses, police officers, ect!
Happy Thanksgiving!

My little one is still too small to have tried out pumpkin pie…and unfortunately, he has a severe allergy to all things dairy, so pumpkin pie is out anyways. I however can't get enough of pumpkin pie…apple pie…chocolate pie…etc. I just love them! I'm making 4 pies this Thanksgiving…and our group is only going to be about 9 people, and a couple other pies are being brought…so it's almost one pie per person! I am going to be in Heaven!…and then I am going to regret it later…but then again, I'll probably just blame it on the baby and "eating for two!" Haha! Gotta love good excuses for getting second helpings!
Hope that you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving!

I had a pumpkin squash cookie this past week, Beth, that I was very hesitant to try because I'm not a squash person. It was at a GF cooking demonstration. The woman promised to post the recipe on her site. They were SO good! You couldn't taste the squash, you got a bit of the pumpkin flavor and they had confectioners sugar sprinkled on them. I would actually make these, they were that good {and I don't bake!}. I'll email you the recipe if I can get it.
