We don’t own a flag. I know. We are so unpatriotic. This morning as I was rummaging around in my craft closet trying to figure out how I could easily make one, inspiration hit. Don’t you just love it when that happens?
I took a dollar store pillow case, some craft paint, and some faux seastars (purchased at the Christmas Tree Shop awhile back). It was so easy to make that I’m not really sure you need a tutorial on this one, but I’ll give it to you anyhow!
My pillowcase came with little lines on it already. Booyah! All I did was tape off where I wanted to paint, and using a small foam craft brush I dabbed on the amount of paint I wanted for each line. I didn’t want my flag to look too shiny and new, so I used my paint sparingly on the stripes to give it a rustic feel.
Then, I simply glued on the stars with a glue gun. Obviously, I won’t be able to put this through the wash, but how often do you wash your flag anyhow?
I love it! Here it is as a pillow….
And here it is as a flag on my front porch! I used curtain clips and twine to hang it from my spindles.
Aw yeah. We’re patriotic and beachy to boot! Can’t call us un-American neighborhood-o-mine!
Hmmm…I’m not sure I’m loving it in the middle of the porch though. Let’s try it on the gate instead.
Better. But now it looks like it needs a cute pennant banner above it! It looks a bit nekked all by it’s lonesome. Gah! Now, I need to rummage around and see what I can come up with for a banner.
In the meantime…enjoy the flag.
So cute! Let me know if you make your own pillowcase flag. I would love to see it. Gasp! Wouldn’t this look so cute hanging along with a pennant banner in front of your picnic buffet table? It would! Go make one and then show me, so I can be confirmed in my vision! Happy 4th!
