I felt inspired today to dust off an old dress and give it a new-go. I don’t know if you watch Mad Men or not, but regardless I think that if you love vintage, you will appreciate the style! My husband rented the first three seasons of Mad Men for me from the library, and I’ve been pouring over them all! I have to say that I have a deep love/hate relationship with this incredibly depressing show, but when it comes to the styles….nothing but love!
Betty Draper, played by the gorgeous January Jones, is the wife of the protagonist and is a fashion icon. Let’s take a gander at some of her looks.

The Mad Men costumes have fueled the fashion industry, and I think we’re better off for it! If you’re a fan of the style (and especially if you’re a size nada), I recommend you head over to my friend Kathleen’s blog, Grosgrain. She teaches you how to make dresses like these and also GIVES AWAY mod-inspired clothes (that she has made herself) practically each and every week. I also recommend checking out ModCloth, or shabby apple for some additional inspiration!

It's funny, I had the same reaction to the show. I was dying to see it because of all the buzz about the sets and clothes but it was so darn depressing. To top it off there isn't one character that you identify with, root for, and fall in love with – they are all messes. However, the dialogue is fantastic and there is something so compelling, that I'm looking forward to seeing the next season when we get it. Thanks for all the fashion photos – I love her style.
Cuuute. I am not familiar with this show. I think I'm out of it. LOVE the dresses!
Beth, thanks so much for stopping by WhipperBerry the other day and leaving the kind note! You're wonderful!
a) You look great, as always (except next time smile a little while you take the pic 🙂 )
b) I love fifties/sixties fashion, at least women could have hips back then
c) I have not seen a single episode of mad men. Must get the dvd for a weekend of mad men watching.
Never seen the show, but love all things classy!
LOVE your blog and I'm finally officially following you. I'm new to blogging and feel like such a tiny fish! Love it if you'd stop by my blog!

I love Old classics!! Their style was great!! I wish I had little boobs I would SOO wear all of her outfits!
Maybe one day! =)
The dress you have on is great!! You look fabulous!
oooooo my <3
I just love the clothes I wish women still dressed this good! Just stunning!
Oh vintage glamour! I haven't seen it yet, but several friends have said Mad Men is a must see. How fun would it be to be the costume designer for that show? Love some of the formal looks, even for today! Love your dress too. Its a keeper!
Hi, Beth! Happy belated birthday. Your birthday is one day before my niece's, so I know you are special. 🙂
I have yet to see Mad Men, but I hear it's a fun one. I do love those 60's styles, esp. since I can actually remember them. 😉
Beth! This post was so fun to see! 🙂 I am JUST like you…I have a love/hate relationship going on with Mad Men. It is so artistically done though. You pulled off the look well, but you're always PRETTY.
Also, I have a giveaway on my blog right now that I would love for you to enter if you're interested and haven't already done so! =)
Super fun!! Love the vintage look. Just found your blog and love, love, love it!

Cute dress! I am IN LOVE with Mad Men…been watching it from the get go and the hubby and I are BIG fans. Love/Hate with Mr. Draper….that dog. Best show on TV….the costumes alone are awesome. Isn't it fun to see this era coming into home decor and fashion?
this is how our grandparents dressed and think we are slobs:) sometimes i wish that was back but sometimes it is nice to have jeans and t-shirts! beautiful clothes though!!!!
Love your dress. You should totally wear that out and about. I have never watched Mad Men. The styles are absolutely gorgeous. *sigh* I love how she's always smoking a cigarette. My, how times have changed. Huh?
What a stunning woman! That January Jones isn't too bad either!!! 🙂 She has a very Grace Kelly classic beauty that I would give my eye teeth for!!
It is depressing. And wildly fabulous. I love it, even as I cringe at every single character's BAD behavior. The fact that the show is so gorgeous makes it easier to swallow, though.
I love Mad Men. It's one of the only shows I watch (or should I say Tivo!) on a regular basis.
January Jones looked pretty bad at the Emmy's this week though!
I'm a huge fan of Grosgrain and her beautiful designs! I'm envious that you know her!
Have a great Labor Day weekend!
I wish I had started watching the show from the beginning… I am definitely going to rent the seasons I missed! Love these fashions. I think I was born at the wrong time!
xoxo

never seen the show but love the style!! and love love love the Barbie!!!
I love Mad Men! It's a great show–but you're right; it's kind of depressing. One minute their lifestyles look uber-sexy; the next minute you see the real emptiness behind all the sexy trappings.
But the fashions. Oh, the fashions. Incredible, aren't they? Just beautiful.
You look adorable! I haven't seen MM, but I always drool whenever I see photos of their costumes. I LOVE the clothing of that era–so chic and fashionable. 🙂
I love Mad Men!
love the dust off and the inspiration shots. And well that Barbie, she's on my list.
I agree–this was real style! Sometimes I think we have put so much emphasis on comfort we have forgotten how beautiful and feminine "dressing" can be!
Wow – those clothes are amazing. The blue formal is stunning. I've never watched the show – so thanks for posting these.
Beth,
If you ever want the new season just let me know. I make copies for my friend Cheila and would be happy to make one for you.
