Home decor trends and fashion trends typically run parallel to one another so why not go green (and scratchy) and start donning that burlap! After all, you have heard the expression, “she could make a bulap sack look good,” right? Well, now is your chance to try. Burlap fashions are popping up all over the place. Courtesy of google images (googling “burlap clothes”) I found the following for you.
And let’s not forget our original burlap sack ladies.
And of course Marilyn Monroe has never made burlap look better. Gorgeous.
Okay, and now it is my turn. Wait a minute. Am I insane? I’m not going after Marilyn for goodness sakes! Hang on. Okay, one more pic for you before my burlap sack debut. (And no, I have no idea what this creepy picture is all about. It’s just helping erase your mind of blondie bombshell before you see me.) Anyhow, here’s my tongue-in-cheek attempt at pulling off burlap. For Halloween this year I’m going as a burlap sack diva. I’m guessing it will probably go over as well as my “Eve” attempt. Ah well, it is all part of the fun. If you want to make your own burlap sack dress, take a safety pin and secure a piece of burlap around you. Uh yeah. That’s all I did. Don some accessories and give your best runway pout and quirky body position poses and you have yourself a burlap sack diva costume. Happy Halloween!

I have a Burlap/decorating story for you…I only wish I had pics! In the first house my husband and I bought, the walls were covered in panels of burlap, alternating light and dark! I can only assume the previous owner was trying to mimick fabric wallpaper. I spent WEEKS tearing down STAPLED up burlap and painting!

Gotta love a woman who can wear a burlap bag- Russ has made fun of my burlap bags in the past from my hippie days…. I think they all eventually found a new home at Goodwill….

I love your costume! I haven't really caught this trend in action, but I think it's great :).

Is that last photo you?!! Wow girl, you are gorgeous!!!
I saw Aubrey on the blog MADE YOU BLUSH made a dress out of burlap awhile ago and I was actually impressed!
Fun post topic!

A little itchy right? Marilyn looks fabulous though…also really like the handbag. I still have about half a yard of the stuff. I think I'll cut it into strips and use as ribbon.
Definitely try the felted wool. It was so easy. I saw somewhere that some people make it by using this little brush like thingy and laying 2 strips of regular felt on top. Then you poke the 2nd part of the contraption on top and it combines the 2 pieces of felt into on. Ha, that probably didn't make any sense at all. 😉 I'm sure there's a youtube video out there of the process.

I'm getting itchy just looking at that – I know burlap is the rage, but you won't find it in my home (famous last words – right?)
Grace @ Ruby Moon Designs says
Haha! I love burlap—but hadn't thought of becoming a "burlap sack diva", that's awesome! Oh, and I think you could have gone right after Miss Monroe no problem! 😉 Very creative costume!

Wow this is too funny! It really does look so itchy! I can't believe Marilyn looks that good in it! Sorry the little doll was not ugly enough to get my mind off how hot she looks! You are rockin it too though…maybe some more safety pins and you will be as sexy as Marilyn…not with kids though! Great post super funny!

Oh, you better line that thing, girl! Itchy!

I can't WAIT to hear what the thoughts are about your burlap 'sack' dress! I think you should stamp it! or paint or stencil or something. 😉

HALOL! That's hilarious. I think I like it best as home decor. But, I never say never. LOL!
Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions says
I felt itchy after seeing the first picture! I don't think Marilyn Monroe ever looked bad in anything!
Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality says
Cute, Beth! LOL Nope, not gonna happen for me either. I draw the line at scratchy, sometimes wool is too much for me. Those pics are hilarious, who knew burlap went back that far. I've seen the Lucy pic, but not the Marilyn one. those trends just keep on coming back around.
Beth@The Stories of A to Z says
So agree! But it is seriously popping up in unexpected places. I think I could handle shoes and handbags, but not scarves or dresses :). Although, I DO think that Marilyn Monroe looks pretty cute sporting her burlap sack.
AnNicole @ OurSuburbanCottage says
Haha, okay…I'm pretty open minded when it comes to fashion….but nope, can't get into this one. I don't think even Giselle would look good in a burlap dress :).

This look was never meant to be sexy. It was a looked required of GOD as a sign of humility and repentance. I think it’s pretty stupid of society to always try to take something of meaning and turn it into something sexualized or trendy or even trashy.

Hi Kaliha, thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m not sure how in the world you even stumbled across this blog post that was written as a joke 7 1/2 years ago. It’s a very old and ridiculous post. It seems to have offended you and for that I apologize. Have a great day!
