Okay, before all of you think I’m obsessed with Freud (all the phallus talk could lead one to believe such a thing, as it did my father and hence led to this blog being invite-only) I should mention that I have recently been covering Freud’s psychoanalytic theory in my Introduction to Psychology class. Teaching his theory is a necessary evil that no student, or instructor can escape. Students often don’t get things such as the Oedipus complex–a boy’s sexual desire for his mother and feelings of jealousy towards his father. All of you with little boys might get it a bit better than those without, but it still seems counterintuitive and, well, whacked . Anyhow, I was trying to find a creative way to demonstrate this complex and I happened upon this razor commercial. It is funny, perhaps disturbing, a bit immature, and a perfect portrayal of what Freud had in mind. Check it out.
Trying to explain Freud…

So true, so true!!! Right now if Russ comes anywhere near me, Ro yells “Walk away Daddy, walk away!” It’s funny to see him try and take ownership of me…. Yay that I can read your blog again.
I was thinking about Marky when watching the video :). Of course in my home, it’s typically ME they are jealous of and Matt they want…including the dog.
Cute, yet disturbing at the same time. I see that pouting look each day when Alan gives me attention. My baby’s like…”ya better back off daddy, she MINE!!!!” He’ll climb out of the highchair and run over, hoping to free his beloved mommy from his big daddy’s embrace. I know this all too well.
