When Chris from Just a Girl (for those of you living in a cave and don’t know offhand who Chris is—and might I add that it’s totally impressive your wireless works in a cave), posted the calendar below on her fabulous site I knew that I needed it. It is adorable and at $18 it is pretty reasonably priced. You can order yours from Say it with Style.
The problem is that I seriously do not have an extra $18 right now. I know. How sad to be me. Cue violins. Fortunately for me, resourcefulness doesn’t cost me a thing and I seem to have plenty of it. My first thought was to print a calendar out in mirror image and trace it onto the glass to mimic the vinyl decal. Then, I thought of all the hand cramps that come with tracing and my inability to even draw a straight line with a ruler. Hmmmm. Plan B was then put into effect. I decided I would find a frame, print out a calendar, and stick it inside the frame. Sound ridiculously easy? Why, yes…it is.
Then, I used Scrapblog.com to make a cute header for my calendar, exported it as a jpeg, opened it in Word and sized it to legal and printed it out. To some of you, I recognize that sounded a lot like the adults in a Charlie Brown episode. Mwa, mwa, mwa, mwa, mwa…. I promise to you all that I will do a Scrapblog tutorial one of these days!
And knowing how much I love green and black, I made sure to spray paint the grass too. Who doesn’t love black splotches on their grass? Sorry Mom and Dad. It will grow :).
I layered the two legal sheets on top of one another and placed them in the frame!
Look at how cute it is! And if I want to change it up, I can just open the back and take out the header and replace it with something more seasonal.
Here it is marked up a bit for you so you can feel the full calendar effect. For those of you wondering, B.S. actually stands for Bible Study which is fantastic and filled with Truth and rarely, if ever, any B.S. 🙂
So for the price of my parents’ computer ink, ancient spray paint, and ridiculously old frame, I was able to get my calendar. Yay me! Cue marching band.

Very cool. I saw the one at Just A Girl and like you I seriously don't have $18 either. Looking to give your idea a try. I am also going to check out your knockoffs party. So glad I found your blog. I will be featuring your blog in a post later this morning on my blog.

That whole post was hilarious. I have fond memories of that picture, you know. And actually, I know EXACTLY how long it took you to do all those ringlet curls!!!!! Hee-hee!!
Mwa-mwa-mwa for sure, but so nice of you to try. Actually I am Word-less right now with my Mac, which is better is most ways but I do miss Word sometimes.
So, I totally love the end product, and I want one! Very cool! You're a genius.

Jenny Lynn,
Yes to the 11×14 frame. I used the full size to make the calendar and then sort of guesstimated and eyeballed the size for the header but approximately 4 inches tall by 14in wide. I was a bit more generous on both sides so I wouldn't have to reprint it. I'd love to see your finished product!
Jenny Lynn says
okay, i'm attempting to make this today and i'm a little confused about the size. what size frame did you use? And you printed out the calendar on an 8 1/2 x 14 sheet using it fully for the calendar then printed the header on another 8 1/2 x 14 sheet? I figure you made the header 14" wide but how tall?

Straight up loooooove this idea!!! I'm actually on scrapblog right now. Love that site. My hubby wants us to use on of those giant desk calendars to get our life in order. What a decorating nightmare those things are. I'm really wanting to try this!!

Oh Beth that is really cute and I love the header.
I wonder how easy it would be to use the etching stuff on the back side of glass and make the glass frame?? Just thoughts running thru my head.
Just coming over for a visit. I have changed all of my buttons.
I have the Knock Off Knock Out party on Mondays and we have a brand new party starting this week. It will be every Wed and featuring Holiday Decor and/or tasty treats. Come on by.

I LOVE this.
And I can proudly say I DO know who Chris is … for all of three days. I'm not sure how I found her, but once I did? I spent an embarrassing amount of time perusing every. single. post. she. has. Oh yes. Yes, I did.
And now? I must do some blog stalk lovin' because I sense some mad creative skills here.
