After creating some “dummy panels” for our breakfast nook, I had some fabric left over. I had planned on using the remnant for some throw pillows, but on an impulse, decided to make two faux roman shades instead!
I think I’ve read every faux roman shade tutorial out there, but Richella’s is by FAR my favorite! It’s so easy, it’s brilliant. For her full tutorial click here. I made some slight modifications to Richella’s tutorial simply because I didn’t want to buy more tension rods.
The first thing I did was hot glue all the seams of my fabric and glue some fringe to the bottom. Next, I tacked up my fabric to the window ledge using some upholstery tacks I had on hand.
As a reminder, here is what this space looked like before (from the opposite angle):
And here it is after. Sigh….so much better!
And because I can’t resist, here is my breakfast nook with rug in place and some cheap, cheap, CHEAP seat cushions.

Please, pretty please can you tell me where the fabric came from? I am in love with it, can picture it in my “coastal living room”. God Bless

These are great! I have been trying to figure out what to do for window treatments in my kitchen, and you have inspired me! Love your breakfast nook too.

I am very very new to these parts, but I saw the above picture and recognized a few elements.
What a great blog. Apparently I am under a rock somewhere.
I will certainly be following.

This is such a great idea when you don't need a functioning Roman blind but love the look (which I do 🙂 ). I really like your fabric, too. It is restful and serene without being boring. You have such a beautiful eye. Thanks for the post!

HOW have I not stumbled upon your blog until TODAY?! I am dying over all the cuteness 🙂

Thank you!!! So needed a simple curtain solution for a couple different rooms in the house. This will work perfect!

I love the faux roman shade, very realistic for a lot less $…always nice! 😉
And totally off topic, I had a quick question about your leather sofas that I noticed in your pics…how do you like them? Have they held up nice? And where did you get them? I am currently sofa shopping but hubby and I can't seem to agree about what to get. I want a fabric pottery barn style slip covered one and he wants leather. I haven't seen many leather ones that I like but I like the way your look. Anyways, thanks! Have a blessed day!
Blessings, Grace

Gorj! I love it! Love the mix of the fabrics.
(By the way, my local Walmart has fake seaweed, but does not have any fake coral for their aquariums in stock at the moment…. I blame you.)

Okay. So the shades are genius (of course), but I just can't get over your mix of fabrics in there. I love every single one of them! That whole room–swoon.

Nothing faux looking about those shades!

What a great trick, Beth! I vaguely recall seeing Richella's post on that, but I really need to remember this. I love that fabric, too!
Richella says
Your shades look smashing, Beth! The tension-rod method really works, doesn't it? And you were so smart just to tack the fabric up at the top. I like the way you used them in the bottom half of the windows. That bit of fabric adds a very nice touch. And it was such fun to see the photo of your "old" downstairs. It was very pretty before, but it's so lovely, light, and bright now.
Thank you so much for the linky love! I appreciate it very much. I just posted some towels and tassels that I made to go with my new Roman shade–it's amazing how one projects leads to another, but of course that's what makes it fun!
