Kathleen is one of my best friends. We met eight years ago at a church mom’s group and found out we both shared a love for blogging and creating and have been BFF’s ever since! Over the years, Kathleen and I have completed several room makeovers, created a commercial for a soap company, hosted several craft nights and spa nights, and even competed together on a crafting reality television show! Kathleen is someone I know I can count on no matter what the circumstance. She is the first person I turn to when in a jam and always seems to “save the day” when I need her most. So when Kathleen recently needed my help in getting rid of a wasps’ nest, I was more than happy to lend her a can of Hot Shot® Wasp & Hornet for the task.
This summer, Kathleen purchased a new home that required a lot of TLC. I recently helped her paint her living room and redecorate her sitting room. It has been so fun to work together in helping her make her first house a home. Kathleen’s latest makeover completion was her beautiful wrap-around deck overlooking the hillside. She and her husband lovingly restored the deck and invited me over for lunch to check out the progress.
Unfortunately, nothing ruins a time outdoors more than a nest of wasps! None of us likes admitting to having pest problems in and around the home, but most of us will encounter insect infestations at some point. It is part of life and it definitely gets in the way of creating a beautiful and safe home. Fortunately, just as there are DIY approaches to creating a beautiful home there are safe and effective DIY approaches to getting rid of pests in and around the home. Hot Shot® products offers an array of pest control solutions at a better price-point when compared to its competitors.
While Kathleen and I were enjoying her new deck, her two youngest children were playing nearby. We heard her daughter scream in pain and called her over to us to see what was the matter. There was a stinger sticking out of her arm; the poor baby had been stung by a wasp! I saw a few wasps flying near the corner of the deck, so I went underneath the deck to see if there was evidence of a nest. Sure enough, the wasps’ had made a nest in the far corner of the deck rafters. I recently used Hot Shot® products for an ant infestation in my home with great success, so I recommended that Kathleen try Hot Shot® Wasp & Hornet to eliminate her pest problem. Hot Shot® Wasp & Hornet kills on contact and eliminates the nest. This nest was about 12 feet over our heads and the product states it will spray up to 27 feet away.
It is recommended you apply the product at sunset when most of the insects are in the nest and are least active. We followed the directions on the product, stood to the side of the nest (do not stand directly underneath it when spraying), and sprayed the nest until soaked. We were so pleased with how the product sprayed. It offers a direct, consistent, and powerful stream of product and is easy to aim at your intended target. After spraying the nest, we immediately saw several wasps fall dead! We continued spraying until we didn’t see any other activity and the nest appeared saturated. It is recommended that you wait a full 24 hours before removing the nest so that any remaining wasps returning to the nest will come into contact with the product.
The next day, Kathleen used a ladder to remove the nest from the rafters and peace was restored to her porch and family! I was so glad that I was able to step in and help her “save the day”! Because after all, friends don’t let friends get stung by wasps and we moms need to stick together and help each other out through all of life’s trials–even the little ones.

I’m okay with using stuff like Hot Shot on hornets and wasps, but if it’s bees, please don’t resort to this! Most areas have beekeepers who will come out and remove beehives that are bothering you for free. We need our bees!
Kathleen and her husband are actually amateur beekeepers and make their own honey. 🙂 I know they couldn’t agree with you more!
