We finally have new neighbors! Considering that the first time they met me I was trespassing on their property, in their backyard, trying as I might to yank open their back gate—hey now, before you judge me too harshly you should know that I was trying to give some OTHER neighbors behind us some brownies and my own gate was stuck—I think it is safe to say that our new neighbors might feel towards us a bit like the picture above. When they came out on their back porch and asked if they could help me with the gate, in my embarrassment I rambled like a crazy girl about their house and how I helped design it. Yeah. It is very safe to say that I have never been all that great with first impressions.
So thank the Lord for Chris over at Just a Girl who recently posted about how to make new neighbors feel welcome. Obviously I needed a tutorial in this area, and I won’t even try to pretend that this post isn’t a complete rip-off of her ideas. (By the way, out of all of those many decorating blogs I have linked, she is one of my favorites. I find her highly entertaining, not to mention incredibly creative. Check her out when you get the chance.)
The basket was a very recent find at a thrift store for less than a dollar. You can’t really see it in this picture, but it has birch bark weaved throughout it. I loved it and it was seriously hard to part with, but I couldn’t get everything to fit into the box I was going to use. So yes, I’m secretly hoping that they will ask if I want the basket back! Okay, maybe I am a psycho after all :). But a psycho that feeds you sweets can’t be that bad, right? I’m hoping they will think so too!

Hey wow! I would like the recipe for this dip? We just had new neighbors move in across the street yesterday, and I have been fretting about what I could do to meet them. I love this idea.

That is too nice. Outrageously cute and thoughtful. Did you mention in the card how much I would really love to be your neighbor if they don't appreciate you enough? And that doesn't even have anything to do with the cookie dough dip.

I meant to comment this morning when I first read your post, but I have to admit that I got stuck in Just a Girl – I think it was superglue or something! … If I was the recipient of your welcome basket, I’d definitely forgive your innocent trespassing! It’s absolutely adorable! … I DO think, though, that my favorite part of your blog is the photo of the coasters! *wink wink*

that is such a thoughtful gift and i think you will be pleasantly surprised and your neighbors will love it. considering the several times we have moved, we never had anyone bring anything over.

I am thinking that they will love having you for neighbors – and any pyscho thoughts will be quickly driven out of their heads by the cookie dough dip! What a thoughtful gift. Hope that this turns into a wonderful relationship and friendship!
