I recently won a giveaway from Vinyl Wall Expressions. Well, actually Hubby won it for me! I have envied Sarah’s laundry room sign for a long time and was so excited to learn that one would soon be mine! My laundry “room” is actually a small closet. There wasn’t much wall space for the decal, and besides, I’m starting to feel selfish with my vinyl. If we move, I want to take it with me!
Here’s what I did (at 1am nevertheless because I was working on my freakin’ STAIRCASE until then! PAR-TAY tonight starting at 10pm people. Be there…ready to stare. :):
I rummaged in the basement and found an old piece of MDF. I spray painted it metallic bronze…because I had it on hand and I wanted a dark base.
Next, I used my free Glidden paint in Marshmallow White, a sponge brush, and this doo-dad on the left that I bought 8 yrs ago when I was going to try and “stain” a white door faux wood. I never used it because I was still in my 20’s and seriously lacking in DIY confidence. Hello beautiful 30’s! I’m not scared of you Mr. Doo-dad faux Woodmaker Thingy. Bring it.
I put a thin coat of paint on the MDF and then rocked the doo-dad back and forth while pulling it across the paint. I let this coat dry and then took a paper towel to sponge on some paint to fill in the gaps.
Once the paint dried, I rubbed on my vinyl.
Isn’t is cute? I love the way the “wood grain” turned out. I think it adds some interest and texture to the sign.
Speaking of cute vinyl decals, there may just be a vinyl giveaway tomorrow for the best staircase! See you tonight!

I need to know where you got the Milford Soap box! My cousin (whose last name is Milford) NEEDS that!!

Really cute idea! Love the "loads of fun." Unlike my sister, I actually enjoy doing laundry. It smells good and feels soft. What more could I want?

How funny, I too have the same laundry room. Where do you put your dirty clothes. Mine usually end up spilling in the floor and out in the hall. How do you keep yours so neat!

Cutenessssss….I have a laundry closet too, but it don't look nuthin' like yours :o)
My staircase hasn't had a makeover yet, so I can't join the party, but I'll be sure to come over and glean some inspiration from the other party-goers!

Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments on my blog and pictures..I use a sony cybershot 7.2, it is about 3 years old or more, I love it. I just use all the photo tips from Susan at between naps on the porch, she has a sidebar picture of her cat max on a chair and it says photo tips or blog tips, just click on that, I use picasa from google, it is free, just down load it and when you scroll through your pictures if one is too dark just slide the light bar over and yea, it is nice and sunny…and mainly never never never use the flash inside just shut it off and turn all the lights on and lamps and open drapes….mainly just go to her sight and thats what I did. thanks again and keep sharing..

That sign is way awesome! I only wish I had a closet for my laundry room…right now I have to run outside to the garage and do it! It's burning hot out there in the summers and freezing in the winters! Ugh!

When I first saw the photo I htought it was something you bought! I was thinking about doing some art over plywood for living room, so I'm glad to see it's so easy. Your laundry room looks great–is that the Seventh Generation detergent I spy? Or is it from Costco? If so (to either), how do you like it? I've been thinking about switching, but I tried Method last year and it sucked.

I won't have a staircase to enter, Beth, but I have mentioned it to a couple of people. Hopefully they will put their links up over at your party. Isn't it amazing how these vinyl decals can perk up a space! I love my laundry room one, too.
BTW, I got the scarf yesterday! Can I tell you this is the softest thing I've ever felt! Thank you so much! I'm working on getting a picture of me wearing it to post, but I stink at the self picture taking thing.

So cute! I have a similar laundry closet and you've inspired me. Mine isn't pretty at all–merely practical.

My laundry room is the same layout – just a closet really…but it does not have drywall up…but seeing the way your laundry room looks, I want to put the dry wall up and make mine the exact same!!! SO CUTE!
