Shhhh, don’t tell, but I have a shocking absence of chalkboards in my house. Perhaps it is because I have the world’s ugliest, scrawly hand-writing, or maybe it is because I am allergic to all that chalk dust. Whatever the reason, I feel my lack-o-chalkboards needs to be remedied before I completely miss the chalkboard-paint-obsessed boat. Therefore, I thought it would be fun to compile a ton of chalkboard inspiration in one place. I declare next Thursday official Chalkboard Paint Party Day!
Come back here and link up your old or new posts showing your creative use of chalkboard paint.
To get us in the mood let’s peruse some chalkboard inspiration…
Here’s an adorable idea found on DIY Happy of using an old globe as a message center.
We’ve all seen entire walls painted with chalkboard paint, but what about just doing the area above your wainscot?
Or how about your kitchen backsplash?

I think this is a creative way to keep your craft supplies organized.
I love the idea of covering your old fridge in chalkboard paint and using it as a magnetic spice rack! Adorable. And on a side note, what is lava salt? I’m intrigued.
I thought this painted menu surfboard was adorable for a beach-themed wedding.
Paint your shoes??? Well, it’s certainly a creative use of your paint!
Goodbye for now. I need to think of something to chalkboardify. Are you in? Will you join me?

Love the chalkboards!
BTW – Lava Salt – from Hawaii, blend of sea salt from evaporated pools of saltwater and mixed with volcanic charcoal. Good with sushi, as well as other foods – looks really cool too (according to the resident teenager).

I haven't posted in months but this party may be enough to bring me out of retirement! I hope all is well with you and the family. Lisa

Katie, Not a dumb question at all. Since chalkboard paint is typically black, it would take many coats of Killz with sanding in between to prepare your door to return to white. If you're worried about it, why not paint a framed board instead that you can remove from the door?
Katie says
This may be a really stupid question…
I think I have the perfect spot for chalkboard paint – a panel of a door in my kitchen. But, it's a new home and we're (especially my husband) still hesitant to make any permanent changes. If it doesn't turn out, would I be able to paint over it and never tell the difference?

That will be a fun link up. I'm too cheap to buy the paint, so I haven't made anything yet. I always love all the ideas I see online though.

Just bought my first can of chalkboard paint this week and tried it out on a scrap of wood, so I am a girl looking for a surface! (Have paint, will travel?) LOL If I find one I will link up… but I will for sure enjoy seeing everyone's projects!
Amanda @ Serenity Now says
Sounds like fun! 🙂 I like the idea of separate chalkboards, but I don't know if I could live with chalkboard walls or backsplashes b/c of the dust. But they sure do look cool!!!

Your pictures sure are cute, The globe is darling! I wish I were more hip on chalkboards, there's something about chalk dust and four boys that doesn't mix! 🙂
The mad woman behind the blog says
LOVE LOVE LOVE chalkboard paint and I can't wait to paint something for my daughter, preferably in the kitchen so she can hang with me.
Thinking a chalkboard/magnetic combo.
After seeing those pics, ain'tcha wishing you'd done THAT for your backsplash?

Ooh fun pics and great idea! I'm all in. 🙂
Also Beth, if chalk dust bothers you try chalk ink. It's AWESOME! I wrote about it last year here:
