Create a beautiful outdoor fall table for Thanksgiving with these affordable decor ideas!
I know that many families are doing their best this Thanksgiving to stay safe while connecting with loved ones. If the weather allows, an outdoor Thanksgiving table is a fantastic and fun option! Here in South Carolina our fall has been particularly warm allowing us to dine outdoors all the way through November. I created this special table using all items purchased on Walmart.com. Even my outdoor table and bench were purchased at Walmart a few seasons back!
You all know that I love shopping on Walmart.com for their broad, beautiful, affordable, and convenient assortment of must-haves! And it’s NOT too late to shop for Thanksgiving tabletop items. You can shop for holiday tabletop items within this post simply by clicking the links and/or product pictures. I was able to purchase everything I needed for my table and have the items shipped right to my door, or to the store. Many Walmart items have a Next Day Delivery, or in-store pickup option which is so convenient. For example, if you need something ASAP click here on “NextDay delivery” to shop right now for items that are eligible for quick shipping.

Outdoor Fall Thanksgiving Table Setting Tips
Tip 1: Get creative with your dining location.
Decks and patios are fantastic options for entertaining, but for special occasions I will often move our table off of the patio and into our woods. Even if you don’t have a large expanse of land, moving your table to the yard, side of the house, balcony, etc. can provide a wonderful change of scenery and create a special ambiance.
Tip 2: Arrange your own fresh flower arrangements with flowers from Walmart!
I purchased all of my flowers in-store at Walmart, but did you know that you can purchase fresh flowers online with your grocery order and pick them up curbside? You can! I bought two packages of Alstroemeria and two seasonal bouquets. I added leaves foraged from nearby trees as a filler to each arrangement. For around $30 I was able to create three arrangements and had flowers left over. If you need flower arranging tips, check out this post! I used two fish bowl vases and I’ve linked a similar compote vase here for you.
Tip 3: Use table linens to add pattern and texture to the table.
I like to think of tablecloths, runners, placemats, and napkins as the “rugs and toss pillows” of the table. Use your base table linens to ground the items on your table (just as you would a rug), and use your napkins as a fun additional pop of color, pattern, and texture. I love these affordable Better Homes & Gardens Jute Placemats and use them often. The buffalo check napkins are a great neutral everyday napkin that look beautiful in both casual and elegant settings.
Tip 4: Add something special to each place setting.
White dishes are my favorite investment for their versatility and practicality; however, plain dishes can sometimes look a bit bare on their own. To create a warm welcome to the table, add something special to each plate. This could be a dinner roll, nametag, party favor, special decor item, etc. For Thanksgiving, I thought it would be fun to serve individual pies. These small pies are from Walmart’s grocery and taste very good! My store currently carries pecan, pumpkin, apple, and cherry mini pies.
I removed each pie from their metal tins and plated each on small plates that can be moved to the side until dessert time! I used sprigs of fresh rosemary as a garnish. Fresh herbs always make for beautiful garnishes on a napkin ring or plate!
Tip 5: Add mood lighting!
You can never have too many candles, votives, lanterns, and string lights! With earlier sunsets, mood lighting isn’t just beautiful it’s functional as well. I used four Better Homes & Gardens small gold lanterns with Mainstays pillar candles. The gold lanterns look beautiful with the Cambridge gold silverware and add the perfect amount of ambiance to the table.
I like to spread my candles equally down the table to evenly distribute light. I love how beautiful the flowers look under candlelight!
