My house is decorated in all fall and winter colors and typically I love them. (No offense to you rich and beautiful colors, but you know my fickle ways. I will be passionate about you once again, but for now bluebird blues and brookside greens are whispering sweet nothings in my ear.) If I currently had endless resources I would repaint my entire house, but that would require some magical fairy dust and I am fresh out. Where ARE those fairies when you need them?
So this is what I have come up with instead: Below is the before pic of my bedroom. I bought that Pottery Barn quilt off of ebay six years ago and I still love it. It’s just very wintry. I don’t have a picture of the opposing wall, but imagine four sexy and now-inappropriate Gustav Klimt posters. I love Gustav Klimt but in a house of all boys, it was time for them to go.
AFTER: I bought the white quilt off of Overstock.com for $50 (after I saw it on my sister Kim’s bed and decided I needed to copy her). The pillows were overflowing off of my couches downstairs and seem much happier (and less abused) on the bed. The kids and dog (and husband) have something against pillows on the couch. They are ALWAYS ending up on the floor. By the way, I need something over my bed. In my last house I had a stenciled quote and I loved it. I’m thinking of doing that, or plates, or an old window. I don’t know. Any suggestions?
Here is what I did with those four frames. I spent about $6 on scrapbook paper at Michaels. Printed out some letters in an easy-to-cut-out font on my computer, and then slapped them together in the frames. I didn’t even use tape because I couldn’t find it. For those of you who know all that is going on in my life, HOPE is what has gotten me through these past few months so it seemed apropos.
I’m not sure why this pic turned out so dark but here they are at a cool slanted angle. Tip: Take all of your pictures of inanimate objects on a slant and it looks like you know what you’re doing.
One more in case you haven’t quite appreciated the beauty and simplicity in all of its glory.
Here is a close-up so you can see how easy (and slightly imperfect) it is.
I’m very pleased with the results and hubby is pleased that I did a redo without spending a bunch of money we don’t have. In the next post, I’ll show you what I did with the laundry closet. Yea, I did say laundry closet. It needed some help and I was inspired by some decorating blogs I follow. They have laundry rooms and have transformed theirs to look like spas. I hate doing laundry and I can’t be bothered with transforming the inside of a closet that no one will ever see. But the OUTSIDE of the closet…that’s a different story!

That is AWESOME! You did a great job on the frames…what a super great idea…did ya get the super part? Sometime soon you will have to come and see what I have done with the living room/dining room.

Love your new bedroom! You have inspired me – the previous owners of our house painted the master bedroom drak blue. Seriously – it is like the batcave in there! Definitely needs a makeover. We are working on our downstairs powder room at the moment, so after that it done, it in on the master bedroom!

It’s amazing how “slightly imperfect” gives homemade art more character – it makes it all the more endearing. Wish that was my instant reaction to people too! (This is NOT a comment about YOU!) – I just mean that I need to be less of a perfectionist with my kids and pick some battles NOT to fight. I tried today. I failed. Tomorrow’s a new day…..

Really cute, Beth! I know what you mean… our bedroom is red and I’m ready for a light, fresh spring color.
Oh, and here’s an idea for your sister’s ironing board problem… this is what my mom had in our house growing up, so neat and functional – a wall mounted ironing board cabinet…

And if that costs too much… this maybe for inside the closet door, so it just folds down when you need it…

I can’t find the exact quilt on overstock. I think it must’ve sold out. But here are two options I like http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Warren-Quilt-Set/3320583/product.html or http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Chantilly-Quilt-Set/3320585/product.html?sec_iid=33972. Always Google for coupon/promo codes. Overstock typically has a 10-15% off coupon floating out there in cyberspace for the taking! And…come on! When have we ever NOT copied each other?
As far as the ironing boards, I told you these people have bedroom-sized laundry rooms with closets so…no. No creative ideas besides the lug-it-out-of-the-master-closet one you’ve got going :). Love you too!

Thank you for inspiring me! I am SO SICK of our bedroom… not that I every really liked it to begin with. What’s the quilt? (How can I not copy both of my sisters?) Do any of your blogs have solutions for ironing boards? The master bedroom is the only place for ours.
Love you!
