DIY and Thrifty Wedding Ideas: Part Two

I don’t know whose internet I’m currently using, mine or my neighbors’, but I’m going with it.  Okay, where were we?  Ah yes, thrifty wedding tips.

1.  Rob the House:  I grabbed from my home: four strands of Christmas lights, two candle chandeliers, one tea-light chandelier, two buffet lamps, 100 glass tealight holders (from my wedding a decade ago), one bedroom canopy mosquito netting thingy, one bathroom mirror, and one letter H. All of these items added so much to the event!

2.  Think outside the box:  Instead of using bud vases, I used salt and pepper shakers.  They were two for a dollar and worked perfectly to hold a single hydrangea stem.  Instead of using posterboard, I used my bathroom mirror to hold the seating chart cards.  I glue-gunned ribbon right to the mirror!

Instead of numbering tables, we lettered them.  The table letters on the seating chart cards corresponded to the letters on the toasting bottles.

Instead of using cloth table runners, we used scrapbook paper and wrapping paper.
3. If it’s ugly, cover it:  Since the reception took place in a gym, there was a LOT of covering that needed to happen.  We covered the basketball hoop with some black fabric.
I reupholstered the bride and groom’s bistro chairs using some scrap damask fabric and some pins.  Simply unscrew the seat from the bottom of the chair and cover.  In place of staples, use pins to secure.  We also covered all the wood panels on the stage.  The two you see below behind the sweetheart table were recovered with wrapping paper.  The rest were simply covered with extra table linens.
The bathroom doors were bugging hubby.  I was actually okay with the doors but he was bothered!  This man is never bothered by such details, so I was more than willing to appease him :).  We covered the bathroom doors with left over fabric and table linens.  We secured them with black duct tape.  They weren’t perfect, which bugged me.  It still bugs me.  Let’s move on.
4.  Use your computer to make cute signs and labels for everything:  I have shared this tip with you before.  I used Scrapblog to make cute labels for the water bottles.
….and for the snack bags…
…and for many of the signs…
I wish I would have taken pictures of all the little signs because they were adorable and again, added much to the event!
If you have little time, little resources, and much creativity you can pull off a gorgeous wedding for well under 10K.  I think her total cost for everything was around 9K.  It can be done!

You did a fabulous job. Next time if hubs is bothered by the doors I bet some wrapping paper would work good there too.
You will have to try the recipe we love it and it is so easy.

Trying to make lots of changes and easier to get around my blog–lots more to come.
