On a recent thrifting trip with my friend Kathleen, I scored this cutie below for $.99. I hear that question in your voice. You’re wondering why in the world I would want a curtain panel decorated with passe’ sunflowers. Well, because I have a thing for cute kitchy aprons over jeans, that’s why! You might remember these hostess aprons I made out of curtain panels awhile back. I still love them and decided I could use another!
This panel was long enough to create a nice wraparound apron, so I simply threaded a ribbon through the top of the panel, sewed in a “wraparound hole”, and sewed the edges of the ribbon so it won’t unravel. Voila! Cute apron.
This will be my gardening apron. And yes, I realize it will get horribly dirty and not look nearly as cute after gardening, but…it was $.99. If it makes me feel cute while gardening (which I hate to do by the way), then I say it’s worth it!
Oops. No apron in this pic. Taking pics of yourself is hard! My boots look cute here though, don’t they?
This is the back of the apron and there are cute sunflowers on my bum! (Please try to focus on the cute flowers and try to ignore the fact that I’m grabbing, scratching??? my bum here. What in the world?)
So, what do you think? I’m trying to start a new trend of wearing adorable aprons over jeans and this post is in hopes that you’ll join me! Go to your thrift store, find a curtain panel, make it into an apron, and proudly show it off! Or if you can sew like my little sister, you can go the more traditional route and make a REAL apron. But I prefer easy anyday. (Although, I’ll gladly take one of your cute aprons little sis! Hint, hint!)
Reminder: Don’t forget to enter my fab Lisa Leonard custom sterling silver jewelry GIVEAWAY!!! Winner announced on Thursday.

Very cute. I have a fun apron with cherries on it that I wear when I cook. I always feel cheerful when I wear it–weird but true 🙂

Love your little curtain aprons! I haven't made one yet but they are much cuter as aprons than curtains!

I just bought a fantastic magazine called Apronology that has great up-cycling ideas in it for aprons. They use all manner of dresser scarves, pillowcases, and curtains. Very very inspiring

Hi Beth! LOVE your apron, and especially that you can make them from a curtain! I have been so disappointed, and my sewing machine has never been so neglected since Walmart closed their fabric department. Joann's Fabric is a bit of a trip, so I haven't been there since I can remember! So your apron is very inspiring to me!.. And I LOVE a cute little pair of boots like yours too! ~tina

I love that I can come here for a giggle. You taking pictures of yourself and completely missing the apron is cracking me up {only because that is totally me when I'm trying to snap pics!} On another note, I LOVE your apron {and your boots}, and I hate gardening 🙂

Just a little side note- if anyone wants the EXACT curtain panel you used…it's at Lowe's. I know b/c I bought one 2 years ago to replace the TEDDY BEAR one the previous owners put up in the kitchen window. I can sew but my son was only 3 months old and I claim sleep deprivation on that buying decision ok? Kitchen re-do is in the works so I will be getting a new curtain & I guess now I know what to do with the old one 😉

I could absolutely do this! Love that idea! I plan on hitting my Goodwill and another thrift store this weekend, so I'll keep my eyes peeled. Oh, and I'm just glad you're a woman scratching her "bum" and not some guy scratching some place else! : )

I think it is a super cute apron and they do look super cute over jeans! Now I need to go to the thrift store! Great job!

Great idea on making an apron from a curtain. It's really interesting how you can see something over and over again but not connect the dots. I see aprons in pillow cases but never in curtains. I love this idea.
