Beautiful & Chic Boho Outdoor Table Setting Tips
Table Setting Tip 1: Forgo a typical table, and instead use pallets!
I buy a lot of items online and these pallets actually came with some of the furniture I ordered last year on Walmart.com! We’ve had them stored behind our barn/shed all year, so that I could use them this year as an outdoor table. If you don’t have your own pallets, you can sometimes find them for free on Craigslist, at construction sites, or at nurseries and local home improvement stores. Of course, always ask first before taking! Not all pallets you see are free, or for the taking. Also worth noting is that some pallets are treated with pesticides. Use a pressure washer to clean the pallets before use and leave plenty of time for the pallets to dry and air out.
Table Setting Tip 2: For seating, use cozy throw blankets and euro pillows.
This boho-glam picnic required some cute seating and Drew Barrymore’s Flower Home line had some great options to choose from! I used the Rainbow Pom Decorative Throw blanket as my base and topped it with the pillows clad in the Watercolor Geo Euro Sham Set. The gray striped throw and patterned shams provide a crisp neutral base allowing the fun sorbet colors to pop!
Table Setting Tip 3: Let your plates set the tone for your color palette!
Speaking of color, I love the vibrant tones in the Vintage Marble 16 Piece Dinnerware Set in Palm Springs Pink. I like to begin each table design with an inspiration object and these fun and vibrant plates were the perfect inspiration items to springboard from.
The dinnerware set is made of 100% durable stoneware and includes four dinner plates, four salad plates, four larger bowls, and four small bowls. I’m already finding so many uses for all of the cute bowls!
Table Setting Tip 4: Think outside the box when it comes to your table decor!
One of my husband’s coworkers was recently over for dinner and she saw all of my table props set aside and was curious. I explained my vision for this boho tablescape and when I told her that the waste basket would be a vase and the globes would be table decor she looked very confused.😂 Don’t be scared to repurpose items and try something new! Thinking outside the box with your table decor delights guests and adds whimsy to your table setting. Here, I repurposed the Crystal Resin Wastebasket as a vase for my centerpiece and filled it with several inexpensive bouquets of flowers from Walmart.
Keeping with my boho-flower theme, I used two World Map of Flowers Globes to flank the table and absolutely love how chic and fun they look!
Instead of showing you typical map items, the globes show you where to find beautiful flowers around the world.
Another way to think outside the box when setting your table is to use scrap fabric for napkins! I used some scrap fabric from Walmart that was leftover from my DIY Teepee creation and the florals play so nicely with the other items I purchased from the Flower Home line.
Table Setting Tip 5: Incorporate natural elements into your tablescape.
Branch clippings, pinecones, acorns, wildflowers, leaves, and berries are beautiful and typically FREE items that look amazing on the table. One trick I frequently use on my tables is what I like to call the “live runner trick”. Instead of fabric, I cut branches from trees, or use eucalyptus branches to create a runner on the table.
It’s a subtle way to add more movement, color, and texture to a table and the best part is that it typically costs you nothing!
String lights are also fun to add to the mix! Tie the lights to natural elements such as trees, sticks, or topiaries to create beautiful ambiance that doesn’t detract from your table.
I hope you feel inspired to create your own beautiful boho-chic table. You can shop the entire Flower Home launch in collaboration with Drew Barrymore on Walmart.com!
