Life during the holidays tends to be stressful and chaotic! Treat your guests (or yourself) to a beautiful and affordable bedroom refresh this Christmas using Better Homes and Gardens products found at Walmart. Everyone loves a good bedroom makeover before and after! Watch my 20 second video to see how I transformed this space from a dated yellow room to a beachy retreat.
Bedroom Makeover Before and After
Every Thanksgiving and Christmas we celebrate the holidays with family at my mom’s beautiful home on the Chesapeake Bay. My mom lives in a lovely beach Victorian that she and my dad designed over 20 years ago. While the exterior of the home is postcard perfection, the interior is in need of an update. Below is what one of the guest bedrooms looked like before the new paint and updated accessories.
To start things off, the walls received two coats of Sherwin Williams paint in the color Watery and the bed received a comfortable new mattress. I sometimes sleep in this guest room and chose the Better Homes and Gardens 12″ Gel-infused Memory Foam Mattress. This mattress is so incredibly affordable and provides great support for my back. I sleep great on it and highly recommend it!
The next step was to find comfortable bedding. For the sheets I chose the Better Homes and Gardens 300 Thread Count Wrinkle Free Sheets in Ivory. The white bedding is the Better Homes and Gardens White Pintuck Comforter Set. It’s a great lightweight comforter that is perfect for a coastal room.
A great tip to remember when hosting guests is to provide extra bath towels in the guest bath or bedroom.
These cute Coastal Bath Collection towels go great with the bedroom decor and are a fun complement to a beachy bathroom.
Of course no room is complete without proper lighting. My mom and I were both impressed by these gorgeous capiz shell lamps. I paired them with a faux leather shade to give the room a luxe feel for less!
Here is a close-up view of the beautiful lamps. I think they are perfect for this room and the price can’t be beat! The lamp bases were only $37 each. I’ve seen similar lamps priced at over $100.
Every bed and every couch needs at least one novelty toss pillow! When I saw this adorable vintage bike pillow for only $12.44, I knew we had to get it. My mom rides a similar-looking bike along the boardwalk so it was perfect for her home. 🙂
A cozy throw at the end of the bed and a heavily woven table-runner-turned-rug completed the makeover!
My mom’s guests aren’t going to want to leave their room now that it’s so cute and cozy!

Hi can you tell me where the lightly striped throw on the end of the bed is from? Love it!
Thanks for stopping by! It’s actually a reversible quilt folded at the end of the bed and I think it’s from Laura Ashley.
Great colors! What are odds of me finding it ha! Thanks!
Wow! Lovely transformation. I love its new look. It’s cozy and very inviting. The touch of sky blue color is very relaxing. I may not want to get up with this kind of bedroom. 🙂
In love with this adorable bedroom makeover <3
Gorgeous update! Exactly my style too.
Thank you so much!
That’s just amazing and seems so simple. I hate to paint, but I love that I can get the paint at Walmart when needed. You did a great job dear!
Thanks so much Lisa!
Ah, what a nice update for your mom! I love the colors and just re-did my guest room here with a similar blue/green.
Thanks! And yes, I love this color. It’s the same paint color I used in our master bathroom.
I, recently did a makeover of a small bedroom for my grand-daughters. I used the color “Watery” by Sherwin Williams also. I would love to share a couple of pictures with you.
Isn’t it such a pretty blue? I’d love to see your bedroom makeover, Pat. Feel free to email me the pictures at beth@homestoriesatoz.com.
Beautiful update Beth!! Such pretty, calming colors.
Thank you so much Shannon!
Oh wow, what a fabulous makeover and such a gorgeous room. Love the soft blue and white colors.
