Distressed Dresser

This weekend, I worked on the completion of my master bedroom! I’m excited to show it off to you later on this week. I worked hard at rearranging some of my furniture, hemming curtains, making pillows, and playing around with accessories. I also attacked my dresser with a sander :).

This dresser never turned out the way I intended. If you recall, I had attempted to create a chippy blue piece and managed to just create a chippy blue nightmare. So today I took out my orbital sander and had some fun.

Forgive the poor quality pics. I just took these a few minutes ago and it’s pitch black outside, so granted they’re not the best but I didn’t feel like waiting around for sunlight.

The wooden knobs on this dresser have always reminded me of some kind of nut, therefore I sanded them down to bare wood in places to reveal their nutty goodness.

The post below came from a home in my neighborhood. It’s probably over 100 years old. I had hubs grab it out of a trash bin and then I bleached it and polyed over it to keep the paint from flaking off further. I love it!

The wall in my bedroom are blue, so all of the cute blue peeking through accents my room beautifully.

This round mirror used to hang above my bed. Now, it hangs on my brick wall and reflects my new headboard! Can you see it? I think you’re going to love it.

I know distressed furniture isn’t for everyone, but I am loving the way this piece looks now. It now has time-worn character and charm and looks fantastic in my bedroom. Can’t wait to show you the whole room soon!

  1. Beth,

The dresser is gorgeous. I love it with the black circular mirror, sconces and that, oh so textured brick wall. I’m anxious to see what you replaced the circular mirror with over your bed:)

  2. Oh, Beth…this turned out wonderful! I love the two drawers on top and the pretty knobs!! great job!!

    XO,
    Jane

  3. Looks just lovely. Love what you did with those cool knobs. How fun to have exposed brick in your home. I live in ultimate suburbia, no bare bricks here. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Your dresser looks great! The blue peeking through is so pretty. The dresser and the aged post look good next to your brick wall. I’m looking forward to the big reveal!

  5. I love the distressing on this piece. That blue showing through really makes a statement! Those carved knobs are pretty darn cool too. Looks like you’ve got a beautiful and relaxing space!

  6. Ooh, so pretty! When all else fails…break out the orbital sander. ;o)

    As much as I’m digging the results with the dresser, I adore the whole composition of the dresser area. {Did that make sense?}

Truly excited to see the big reveal,
    Anna K.

  7. The post is making an appearance! Nice work on the dresser, those knobs are very fall-like.

I’d love to read about how you hang things on the brick. Special drill bit? Anchors? My old house wants to know 🙂

  8. Loving this… I almost did this with my sofa table, I kid you not there is blue paint underneath the white. Haha. It turned out great, and I am beside myself over your exposed brick wall. I LOVE those. Love, love, love as in want to incorporate one into a house if I ever build one (with old bricks… pay someone to make it look like it was always there!) Totally jealous, Beth. 🙂

  9. How fun. Aren’t you glad when things finally turn towards the direction you want them to? Im glad you kept trying until you got what you wanted. Blessings to you this week, Cherie
