Fall Decor Preview
Christmas Tree Shops contacted me with a fun challenge! They asked if they could send over some preview samples from their fall decor for me to style and showcase in my home. I always enjoy a good styling challenge, and who doesn’t love getting a sneak peek of products before they even hit shelves?
When two big boxes arrived yesterday, I immediately unboxed all of the decor to see how best to utilize each and every piece in my living room. I was sent faux pumpkins in a variety of textures, beautifully embellished toss pillows, ceramic lantern pumpkins, small seasonal wood signs, a buttery soft throw blanket, a pink and gray plaid basket, and a few faux floral items. The blush, burgundy, metallic, and neutral colors in this collection are perfect for those looking for an updated traditional fall look! Let’s get to styling!
Fall Decor Styled in the Living Room
My goal was to utilize every single decor item that was sent to me, and I happily achieved that goal! Let me share some easy decorating tips to help you achieve a similar look in your home.
Creating Decorative Vignettes
Tip: Create an easy fall focal point by corralling a variety of faux pumpkins on a decorative tray.
Christmas Tree Shops offers a variety of gorgeous and affordable pumpkins to choose from including all of the pumpkins pictured below!
Adding seasonal flair to the tabletop surfaces in your room is a perfect way to change up the look of a space for fall. Buffets, end tables, and coffee tables are great places to create decorative vignettes.
In decorating, a vignette is a small grouping of objects that creates a pleasing focal point. I love adding vignettes to my space because they are an affordable way to bring charm, character, and life to any room during any season. If you’re fuzzy on what a decorative vignette consists of, I highly recommend checking out this post: 7 Tips to Creating Simple Seasonal Vignettes!
A tray filled with faux pumpkins is an easy, fun, and unexpected focal point that anyone can create!
Tip: When creating vignettes, cluster objects and add varying heights.
Vignettes that have all the items displayed as “ducks in a row” seldom work. You want to add varying heights to your vignette. Vases, stacks of books, candlesticks, decorative signs, etc. are all great items to consider. I clustered the mercury glass pumpkin, faux floral arrangement, and Count Your Blessings sign from Christmas Tree Shops with some second hand brass candlesticks.
In this vignette, the vase filled with cuttings from my yard acts as the anchor object for the neutral-striped fabric pumpkin and cute fall sign, both from Christmas Tree Shops.
Tip: Use symmetry to decorate buffets and sofa tables.
Using the principles of symmetry is a fail-safe way to decorate a buffet! Duplicate the decor on both sides of the buffet to create an effortlessly pulled together look.
I used these ceramic pumpkin lanterns from Christmas Tree Shops on either side of the buffet which also light up when turned on, creating a cozy candlelit ambiance!
Seasonal Toss Pillow Styling
Tip: Embellished pillows are often reversible allowing you to mix and match to create different looks. All of the toss pillows pictured below are part of the fall collection at Christmas Tree Shops!
Too many embellishments can make a space feel busy. Balance out an embellished toss pillow, or patterned throw, by including some neutral pillows in the mix. One trick is to turn around an embellished pillow to reveal the neutral side. This allows you to mix and match your pillows to suit your mood.
For example in the photo below, I have the embellished “Welcome Home” side of the pillow facing the couch, revealing the solid neutral side. The metallic beaded pumpkin pillow gets to be the star of the show!
When I want to mix up the look in this room, I simply flip the pillows over to reveal the other side!
Tip: Add natural elements to your faux florals.
This faux floral wreath from Christmas Tree Shops is one of my favorite items that was sent! One trick I frequently use when decorating is to add real greenery to my faux florals. Just a few sprigs of fresh really help the faux to pop! You can use floral water picks to keep real stems fresh. I placed a few sprigs of fresh burgundy greenery from my yard into the wreath and love how it looks!
The burgundy greenery is subtle yet helps tie together the color palette.
Bonus Tip: Create a seasonal dog bed using a basket filled with a toss pillow.
This decorating tip wasn’t originally intended! As I was styling the room with this basket, pillow, and pumpkin-print toss blanket from Christmas Tree Shops, one of my Pomeranians decided that she would claim the basket as her own. It’s become her new favorite napping spot, and I must say that she looks very stylish in her new “dog bed”!
