I am having trouble getting excited about the 4th. Usually, I’m at the beach during this time celebrating with my family, but not this year. However, I cannot let a holiday slip past without a proper celebration so here is hoping I inspire myself and maybe you too!
Since I haven’t made any party plans, I’m thinking a yummy breakfast buffet for my fam would be appropriate…
However, if I were to throw a party I would love for it to look a little something like this…
Pottery Barn
And I would love to retire for some drinks here…
Pottery Barn
And this doesn’t exactly fit the other pics, but I love the idea of having some custom State pillows around for the occasion!
These Custom State Pillows are adorable.
And here is where I am usually celebrating and what I am usually doing at this time of year :(. (Pictures taken July 4, 2009. If you want to see more, click here.)
How about you? What are your plans for the 4th? Want to invite me to your party???

I adore your patriotic spirit. It is red, white and bluetiful!
I hope you'll stop by for my bbq on an Anthropologie inspired white tablecloth. 🙂
Hey Beth, love your blog and gave you a shout-out today! Here's the link http://johnhoodfamily.blogspot.com/2010/06/getting-ready-for-4th.html
Dear friend,
I know what you are feeling. I come from an extremely close knit family, and my father was the anchor, the architect, the compass to which we all aligned. I lost my darling Dad 7 years ago. Every holiday after his death was empty and sad. Though I have been grown, with grown kids of my own, our family continued to spend holiday and vacation time together, even as our family grew to 30 people. Know that it will ease up, and get better. You will smile again, without the tears, one day…..and also…know that it is the lucky ones like us, who hurt so much when losing a loved one, someone so important that left that indelible mark on our hearts and souls forever. Hugs.
Kris
Wow, I'm totally inspired! And, you put these out in time that I could actually do something if I had energy to go along with inspiration.
I love all of the photos and the breakfast food looks delicious! YUM!
Oh! I love the breakfast ideas! I definitely have to do that for my little family this year! My toddler especially would think it's the coolest thing ever. Thanks for the ideas! They are awesome!
I found your pillow tutorial and I see where you got that W! Lovely!
I'll probably print out the images, trace them with a wash-out marker, and embroider them.
Thanks!
I'm hosting dinner on the 4th for the first time this year. I'm going a little for the look in the top Country Living picture, using some paper garlands that we are making from the Marths Stewart website.
I came over for the first time today from your guest post on Just a Girl. I LOVED you pillows in that bottom picture and the W, too (two of my daughters have first names that start with W, and I've been planning on making them a pillow similar to yours). I would LOVE to know where to get that W (or if you feel like emailing me the image that would be AWESOME!). I'm hoping there are some more close-up pictures of those other pillows on your blog somewhere; I'll keep looking! I only have one initial pillow in th house; I have been planning to make more, and your pictures were really inspiring!
ok, the custom state pillow? That's my homeland! I was born way up in the tippy top of the upper part of michigan. basicaly canada (eh).
i love decorating for the 4th.
not sure about plans but walmart has some really cute 4th dishes like metal red, white and blue buckets, platters, drink containers. very cute, would be fun party accessories!
All of the breakfast ideas are really cute! I think I'll make one for my family. Thanks for the ideas. 🙂 Oh and have a happy 4th!!
No plans here. 🙁 T always always works on the 4th. I think I may do some cupcakes and celebrate with my girls. 🙂
Love the inspiration pictures! If I had the storage space, I'd want different serving pieces for each holiday!
The crepes look so yummy. That house looks great too! We usually go away too, but not this year. I am craving a hot dog or BQ chicken!
Gorgeous, I love it all ! Be sure to link up your inspiration post at the party tomorrow !

I could eat everything in those first few pictures right now! They look so good. I love the idea of a banana split breakfast as shown. I could do the waffle one, too, if I pick up my GF waffles. Hmmmm. . .
We live in Holland, MI, but my hometown is Lake City. We are headed to my parents' to join in the festivities of the small town Greatest 4th in the North! You are welcome to join!!
Beautiful pictures. I better get moving on some plans for the 4th myself. Your parents home is gorgeous too. It does look like it's out of a fancy magazine.
Girlfriend, if you're making breakfast, you're welcome to any party I throw!
And btw, we're tiling our backsplash this weekend, but you're welcome to come. We could scoot over to San Francisco for an afternoon to, you know, make it feel like something special.
That is one georgeous vacation spot! No wonder you're sad! No parties my way, I'm afraid! Just another day to widdle down the to-do lists! 😉
Gorgeous pictures, Beth. The banana split breakfast and waffles are making me crave fruit. I bought hubs a waffle maker for Fathers Day and we are loving it. I like the flag!!
