I have a wee case of incompleta projectitis. I get tired of a project very quickly and to remedy this fatigue I do what any reasonable DIY’er would do….I start another one. Just to give you an idea of what I’m talking about, let’s take a look around at all the projects I have half done, or is it half undone?
In order to just get the dining room done, I originally hung my curtain rod low so my drop cloth curtains wouldn’t look like floods. It has driven me CRAZY ever since.
And as if I don’t have enough projects on my plate, I went out yesterday and bought this Craigslist rocker for $10.
I’m going to spray paint her and give her a new seat and then probably sell her. She’ll be beautiful!
So how about you? Do you stick with a one project until it is complete or do you start several at one time?
I have a tip for your backsplash. Get a large ziploc baggie. Cover a corner in tape. Fill it with your grout and cut a small slit in the tapped corner. Now you can do your grout like icing a cake. This will let you fill in the area between the stones very precisely. Hope this helps!
Hilary
Yes! Just returned from CTS and 6 of those platters are now mine! I'm so glad you mentioned them because they were really hidden at the back of a crowded shelf…I never would have seen them if I hadn't been looking.
Now they will probably sit on a closet shelf for a long time until I get around to changing out the ribbon (yours looks pretty but mine have some funky colors). I have visions of changing that ribbon to coordinate with the seasons or whatever else I happen to be doing (and some of them will be gifts).
Thanks for the tip!
Girl, you wear me out with all these projects! Great work…
I love all the cute projects you have done. I can't wait until you can tell us how you are finishing the stones. I did Z brick years ago and it looked nice. Now, I need an idea for my backsplash.
Argh! Starting but not finishing projects is my M.O., I'm afraid to say. I really have good intentions. Really. Of course, they say that's what the road to hell is paved with.
I look forward to seeing how these projects turn out!
Thanks! I don't have a Christmas Tree Shop in my neck of the woods. I've heard great things. Let us know how the vinyl works out. I'm very intrigued.
Kelly, the toile tablecloth is vinyl and it came from the Christmas Tree Shop. Most people wouldn't want to work with a vinyl one, but I'm going to make it work!
I'm glad to see there are others out there just like me!
I always have about 10 projects going on (sometimes they're major)and my house is always in disarray..now I don't feel so bad..and I'm gonna show the hubby this to let him know its not just me! LOL!
I definitely start more than I finish. I keep a running list on the notepad on my computer. It just keeps growing. Where did you get the toile tablecloth? I am looking for a similar one.
You sound just like me! I have a t-whirt that says Queen of unfinished projects. I think you need one too!
I think I currently have about 10 things going and of course added 4 barstools that I found at goodwill toaday to the lisdt. I just can't pass up a good deal!
shoot, I was just at CTS the other day and didn't notice those platters…now I'm going to have to go back!
And about the unfinished projects…I'm going to have to show this post to DH. He thinks I'm the only one who leaves things half done. Someone should have a half-finished project party!
I can't wait to see your "cage" lights done! And that rocker was a steal(glad to see the bed bugs haven't totally stopped you from buying 2nd hand)! Can't wait to see what you do with it!
Guilty!
I have major craft A.D.D.!
It's so easy to find another project to change my focus. Eventually I get it done. Starting a blog motivated me.
Can't wait to see those lights!
I'm more like buy a bunch of things with projects in mind but do nothing with any of it. And then find it a month or two later and say "oh yeah…I was going to do this…"
hehe
Just think how nice it will look when you're all done though.
That is funny, I think I have the opposite problem. I have to get things done or they drive me crazy and sometimes that means rushing things that really should take more time. I think a happy medium between the two of us would be great. Don't know how to get there though. Good luck on all your projects.
Brooke
We are kindred spirits! I am the queen of "how many things can I do at once?" Unfortunately, I think I'd do a better job if I just did one thing at a time. 🙁
I have to say I've been pretty good. I have about 3 projects right now {nothing big} that are all at about the same stage of completion and they are all different types of projects. Some of it has been hindered by the heat/humidity, but I'm hoping another week and they wil all be totally done!
I love what you are doing with the lighting! At least you get projects started. Although, I do have an almost finished framed chalkboard in my kitchen, and paint sample swatches on my den walls, and hardwood floors where we ripped all the carpet out but haven't refinished yet. Usually, I end up getting the supplies, and they sit around for a while before I even get started at all.
Love those platters with the ribbons. I seen some of the cake stands at our local TJ Maxx and what a neat idea to be able to change out the ribbon for the different seasons. I am thinking I need to go back and get one or two. I have a bad habit of starting projects as well and never finishing. Oh well they will get done one day right?

Hi Beth:
You MUST give tutorial for that lighting. Those lightings in the first photo, I fell in love with them!! I have a perfect spot for them in my house.
Oh the projects? I have 1001 of them going on right now. I am in the middle of redoing my dining room with the help of my 14 years old son. DH refuses to help me. Men! You ought to see my garage! I have about 4 furntiure that needs to be rehabed and at least 3 three of them I hope to sell on Craigslist soon. There are times when I just say to myself: let's do something else so I can get back to my other projects later. I guess it helps me to get my mind off of things at times.
Take care! 🙂
Girl!! I start one, then another, then another and have them all going at the same time!! I have ATTEMPTED to finish one BEFORE I start another. That has been my goal this year. I think I am doing a little better….maybe a weeee bit….tiny itsy bit better.
Love the light!!
Lou Cinda 🙂
enjoy the rocker project! I also want to say thank you! thank you for sharing that you aren't perfect all the time:) It helps people like me who have about 500 undone/half-done/partially finished projects around here:)
Oh, I do the same thing, absolutely! There are so many half-done things around here, its not even funny.
Very funny Beth! I always have a bunch going. Even though our house has just been listed for sale, we still have a list of a lot of little things & some projects like artwork and bed skirts that will go with us if we move.
Today I am working on touching up nail holes in our master bath and closet that had been filled a couple of months ago.
I now have a list of things that we try to do one little thing a couple of times during the week(even if it is just changing out light bulbs)so that it doesn't pile up.
Regarding your grout – if you are using a non sanded grout it is VERY difficult to work with. We just got finished with our tile backsplash & used sanded grout & it was way more difficult to use than the sanded we used in our Master, Upstairs Bath & Laundry Room. Just take your time & don't let it sit too long before wiping down.
Hope you have a good weekend!
I love the rocker, and it looks like your backslash is coming along. You are brave taking that on. 🙂
I HAVE to finish things up right away. I have zero patience and move quickly. I'll give up sleep to finish something. Come to think of it I may have a slight case of OCD. Ha!
Are the rocks a backsplash? I can't even picture that finished Beth. It is unique. Are you painting a neutral color for the kitchen? Love the chair and stands. Precious!
Have a wonderful weekend.
~Melissa 🙂
Oh my, it seems like I have HUNDREDS of projects 'in progress'. I am glad to see I am not alone! BTW, I so totally love what you are doing with your pendants! I can't wait to see them finished…but no pressure. 😉
Okay girlfriend, YOU'RE KILLING ME!
Love your light project, love the rocker, wish I could sew (and come up w/ creative solutions when I foul up miserably) and we'll just pretend you didn't use that dirty word (grout).
One of these days I want to peek around your house and see where you store all your stuff!
With this kitchen project of mine, I finally pulled my head out of my ass and stayed focused on just finishing. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the hubs.
I need a nap now.
Look- you guys do major overhauls compared to the rinkydink crafts I do- and I STILL don't finish one before I start another!! {But I think my reason is because my crafts are crappy- not because they are time consuming!} Lighting, grout, chair makeovers? Yeah right- I'll leave that stuff to you guys!!! I'll just look at how pretty everything you do turns out 🙂
I try to go one project at a time but sometimes it becomes one "room" at a time and chaos ensues.
Still working on my windows….
have to make it to the glass cutters….
Oh and still have to make new cushion covers with the fabric that I bought for our lawn furniture.
Blah.
I start 20 in a week that lay around for 6 months!
