Almost exactly a year ago, I shared with you the creation of my craft closet. I loved all my scrapbook paper easily seen and easily accessible in raingutter bookshelves.
However, within a few months, as predicted, it ended up looking like this…
…and…oh dear….this…
So, I was trying to wait until my new craft room was built to reorganize this closet but even Hubs couldn’t take it any longer. (And that man is incredibly tolerant of a mess!) It could no longer be ignored.
Instead of scrapbook paper, I placed some cookbooks I don’t use as frequently on the top shelves and all of my spray paint on the bottom. Yeah. I apparently have a thing for black spray paint ;).
The rest of the closet just needed a good tidying.
It’s not the most beautiful closet, but it is incredibly functional.
When my craft room is finished, many of these supplies will move upstairs! I cannot wait!
In the meantime, my little closet is looking much happier!
How about you? Organize any closets recently? Link to it!

How did I miss this post? I love it. I went tfrom having a craft room to a craft closet and the mess is beyond anything I've ever tackle. I feel inspired to redo mine now 😉

Beth, you have no idea how much better you made me feel about the mess in my sewing room. A few years ago, it looked so good, and I've been beating myself up over what a hole it's turned into. I'm still determined to fix it up this fall, but right now, the south sun and the gambrel walls make that space insufferable. Come fall, though, I'm going to see how you arrange your new studio, and follow your lead. After you, my dear Alphonsa!

Funny how I found that pic of your closet the other day. I just goggled something like "craft closet organization" and I saw your pic. Odd that you posted it almost exactly 1 yr ago. Again thanks for the inspiration.

I was feeling terrible about teh current state of my closets…until I saw the messy pics! Haha!! Thank you for including those- but also for including the ones of a nice, clean and organized space because that was definite;y the motivation I needed to get my bum moving!

Oh, you just reminded me that I should not be on the computer! I should be in my craft room attempting to find my table……
Yours cleaned up nicely Beth and I love the paint in the rain gutters! Great idea!

OK, so after I commented I realized that my quick little note turned into a post-worthy rant, so I posted it at my blog as well and linked it up to you 🙂

HAHA! I am SO glad that I am not the only one out there with this problem. Clutter is probably my NUMBER 1 NIGHTMARE!
My craft closet looks like your craft closet. My laundry room, living room, bedroom, bathroom, Mother-in-Law's basement (courtesy of my stuff), Grandma's basement (again, a la Moi), daughter's room, daughter's-closet-turned-storage-unit look like your craft closet.
And it doesn't stop there!
My office looks like your craft closet. My extra storage file cabinet (which does not fit into my office!) looks like your craft closet. My extra storage corner, extra storage cubicle and EXTRA STORAGE OFFICE (because where else do you put all of the clutter!?!) all look like your craft closet.
AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!! What to do?!?
I love your redo, as well as all of the great pantry redo's that are floating around bloggy-ville right now.
We move next month into our new home (which – GET THIS – has an entire STORAGE ROOM just for me to overfill with junk – er – neatly store my stuff.
MY GOAL IS TO MOVE INTO A NEW PHASE OF LIFE! With this new (and amply spacious for the first time ever!) home I am *tentatively* vowing (this is like trying to quit smoking; I've made this vow many times before LOL!) to KILL THE CLUTTER!
It starts with getting rid of the extra junk (or, if it's extra junk that is useful, at least moving it to a new long-term storage place that doesn't clutter my every-day areas).
But it also involves just what you did here – reorganizing the space and stuff that I do have to make it function and flow.
Thanks for the inspiration; as we move and I lay out my new organizational plans, I'll be sure to share it on my blog – and please keep the inspiration coming! 🙂

I think it happens to all of us- things stay clean and organized for a while then POOF- it's messy again! I've just cleaned my storage closet where I keep my extra dishes, accessories, and craft stuff for the second time in a month. It was trashed!!! aaaggghhhh…..
I'm glad you're back on track again, Beth. Hope I can stay there, too. LOL

I haven't, but I really need to do my own craft closet {not a walk-in, but good shelves and baskets to use}. I'm just not sure if I want to use the bskets I already have or go with something clear/see through. I can't wait to see your craft room either! It's been too hot to really do much at my garage craft table, but I'm catching up on projects I started little by little.
Marsha's Mpressions says
good job! I'm always so much more motivated to create when I have a well organized space, aren't you?

I remember when you first made the craft closet, has it really been a year?!

You are so much more brave than I am – my craft area was TRASHED, but I didn't dare take a before picture. After about 3 months of ignoring it, I finally got it all cleaned up.
Yours looks fabulous!

I now have major guilt over the closets I need to reorganize. 😉 I like the cookbooks better on the shelves. I wondered how you were going to keep all that paper organized. Good job!

The closet is looking great now! I can't wait to see your new craft room. I desperately need to reorganize some closets (or just begin using them period instead of stacking stuff near them).
I did clean & organize my craft space this weekend. I started a post about it, but I think it will take more than one. The first can be found on my blog at: http://vogtstories.blogspot.com/2010/08/my-craft-studio.html
These are sort of the "before" pictures…my hubs demanded that I actually clean and organize the room before I started decorating it. He's so helpful that way 😛
Have a great day!

I did organize my fabric recently, but it basically consisted of buying a plastic rolling three door cart and a few $1 pencil cases at Walmart. Not exactly picture worthy but much more neat!
