Last night I hosted a “spa night” for a group of friends. I’ll post more pictures of our time together later, but to tide you over here are the too-cute-cupcakes I made for the party. They are supposed to be sunflower cupcakes, but I thought mine looked more like black-eyed susans so that is what I’m calling them!
All I had was a picture online to go from, so they were basically a process of trial and error. I must admit that tears of frustration were almost involved at one point (when trying to get the cupcakes to stay in a bouquet), but all-in-all they weren’t too difficult to do. I used mini muffin tins to make the cakes and froze them. (I find frosting frozen cake much easier.) I used mini-Nilla wafers covered in chocolate for the centers and mint leaves for the leaves. I made buttercream frosting, divided it in three batches and tinted the frosting green, yellow, and orange. I didn’t have the right tip for this, so I just used one that I thought might work. They would have looked better with a leaf tip….maybe next time. I stuck some floral foam in the top of a vase and used a gizillion toothpicks to hold them into place. Don’t be shy on this step. You will literally need a gizillion toothpicks so that your cupcakes aren’t dripping off, and falling onto the floor, and the dog is trying to eat them, and four letter words are begging to escape your lips. Yeah. Trust me on this one. Don’t be shy with the toothpicks.
Let’s admire it one more time, shall we? Oooooooo. So cute!

That is too much. Stop. You must. I can't take the online humiliation anymore. You're like a homemaking bully. Every blog post I read I feel less and less adequate.
😉 I'm speechless now. No wonder you are getting a following of strangers. They're probably not creepy. Just crafty.
Ti….don’t hate me because I’m crafty :). Seriously though, my whole point is to show people that if I can do it, anyone can. I like to create but have absolutely horrible fine motor coordination. If I can do it, so can YOU!
oh my GOSH!!!! so you kinda made it up from a picture you saw? see.. people don’t comment on your stuff cause they are SPEECHLESS or annoyed with you out of their own limited ability to create as you do! (no.. of course I’m not speaking for myself!! ). Well done friend! amazing!
Oh my gosh, those are SO cute! I just love how it turned out. Worth the tears of frustration?

Michaela, I love hearing that my stuff is cute so don’t worry about sounding repetitive. Our spa night was so much fun and I would’ve loved for you to have been a part of it!!! My next post will be a bit of a DIY spa night tutorial so you can host your own and make me whine! Love you.
These are like the cutest things ever! I am beginning to sound repetitive – I feel like I say this about lots of things on your blog! *whiney voice time* I WANNA LIVE NEAR YOU AND COME TO SPA NIGHT!!!! WHIINE, WHINE, WHINE!
Looking forward to seeing more pictures!
