I used this picture here as my cake inspiration. To make the cake, I used one box cake mix (don’t judge me) poured into 12 muffin cups and one small Pyrex bowl. I also bought brownie bites to avoid having to make mini-cupcakes as well. The head was made from the bowl with 2 brownie bites for the eyeballs. The tentacles were 2 large cupcakes and brownie bites. I frosted everything with buttercream frosting and it looked like a horrible hot mess, so I salvaged the cake by making marshmallow fondant and cutting it to size. The tentacle sucker thingies are made from smarties and the eyes are sliced marshmallows topped with M&M pupils. The seashells are Belgian chocolates from Trader Joe’s and were excellent! I think I liked eating the shells better than the cake :).
Decorations were simple. Hubby and I just whipped up some sea creature balloons and hung them above where we’d be serving the food.
We ate hamburgers on the deck by the sea and God even blessed Asher’s day with the most amazing rainbow! It was one of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. Table decorations were kept simple with sand buckets filled with sea creatures for the kids to play with as they dined.
Most importantly, Asher had a blast and felt very loved. We had fun honoring him and the joy that he brings to our lives! Asher, you are such an amazing child. I can’t wait to make your tiger cake that you have already requested a year in advance!
