Let’s face it. After baking cookies, making gingerbread houses, shopping, wrapping gifts, and creating special memories for everyone South of the North Pole, you may be feeling just a wee bit tuckered out in the “festivities department”! Don’t let holiday stress stop you from ringing in the New Year with a few special friends. Entertaining does not have to be elaborate or complicated. (And psssst. It doesn’t even have to be homemade!) Here are five easy party ideas to implement this New Year’s Eve.
Easy New Year’s Eve Idea 1: The 60 second table covering.
If you have a few yards of fabric, then you have the makings for a custom table covering–no sewing involved. I used Waverly Inspirations fabric by the yard from Walmart. A few yards is incredibly affordable and comes in so many fantastic patterns! To make a 60 second table covering for your buffet you will need about 2 yards of ironed fabric and some corsage pins. Place the fabric over your buffet so that it covers the entire front. Fold the fabric on each side as if you are wrapping a present (you should have lots of recent practice in this department!) and secure in place with corsage pins. That’s all there is to it!
Easy New Year’s Eve Idea 2: Use balloons to create a festive focal point.
Balloons are a simple and inexpensive way to create a party atmosphere. I bought some New Year’s Eve balloons from the party supply section at Walmart and created the backdrop to my dessert table within a matter of minutes. Easy peasy!
Easy New Year’s Eve Idea 3: Use ribbon and pre-made garlands to decorate your buffet.
Never underestimate the decorative power of ribbon! I love using ribbon in my party decor. You can use it to dress up a cake, customize a table runner, or add a punch of color to a focal point. I used a few spools of Waverly Inspirations ribbon in pink and black to complement my New Year’s color palette.
The Happy New Year beads and paper garland were also found in the party supply section at Walmart. I cut two strings of beads and glued them together to create a fun garland.
Easy New Year’s Eve Idea 4: Serve a simple signature cocktail.
Keep drink options minimal by serving one signature cocktail. I made up a Cran-Peppermintini drink that is delicious, pretty, and perfect for the season!
Ingredients
- 1 bottle Cranberry Sparkling Cocktail
- 1.5 ounces Vodka per glass
- 2 Peppermint Buttermints for each glass
- 4 Martini glasses
Instructions
- Place 2 peppermint buttermints in the bottom of each glass. Pour Cranberry Sparkling Cocktail and 1.5 ounces vodka into each glass. Stir with a paper straw and serve. The buttermints will create a beautiful fizz.
Easy New Year’s Eve Idea 5: Serve store bought treats.
Homemade is always my preference, but if you are exhausted purchasing ready-made store bought treats is perfectly acceptable. I bought a Boston Creme Cake, gourmet cupcakes, and Snowball treats (for the kids) from the bakery section of Walmart. The cake was fantastic by the way.
I hope these simple New Year’s Eve Party Ideas inspire you to invite a few friends over to celebrate without a lot of fuss or stress! Happy Holidays!
