I have seen all of these adorable polka-dot pumpkins out in the blogosphere, and I wanted one. Hubby brought home this little guy from work, and I thought he looked like a willing enough candidate for the job. (The pumpkin that is…not the hubby…although hubby might look cute in polka-dots as well!) So today I got out some old stickers and started speckling the pumpkin. Hubby saw what I was doing and said, “Uhhhh…this doesn’t seem like you.” I smiled and responded, “Go Team!” I am not a sports enthusiast, and even if I was, hubby knows that sticking stickers all over a pumpkin isn’t really my style.
I gave it good coat of cheap black spray paint from Big Lots, waited about 20 minutes, and then peeled off the stickers. I should have waited longer, but I’m impatient.
Then, I tied a ribbon around the top and proudly added my cute polka-dotted pumpkin to my porch collection. Isn’t he cute? I’m not sure I’ll ever carve a pumpkin again! They are so much fun to paint.

I made this polka dot pumpkin and it turned out really cute. I live in the South and we have some really hot October days. My pumpkin must have gotten too hot and the paint did something to it because it started collapsing, but the orange stayed hard. really weird! So, if you live where you have some really hot Fall days you might want to bring it in!

I live in the south too & had the same problem. I think the paint sufficates the pumpkin or something…was NOT pretty! I did one pumpkin & it did this & I thought it was a fluke so I did more…all w/the same result. 🙁 I love the look & would love to be able to do it but unless I can find a way to do it w/out them doing this, it’s a waste as it only takes a few days to turn the pumpkin into something distorted!
…well since I didn’t read the directions entirely…I spray painted my pumpkin first…then put on orange stickers I had left over fr a garage sale (while the paint was still a bit wet). It worked just the same! Thanks for sharing…such a CUTE idea!
So I starred these as a "favorite" last year, and I featured your pumpkins on my blog today:

This is so clever and cute! Love it!
Super cute! I let me kids paint their pumpkins each year. We just got our lot tonight so I will have to show them this. Fun!
Hey, Beth, what a cute idea! I love this. And thanks for stopping by & leaving such a great comment. I have loved reading all about everyone. You have a super blog, keep it up!
I love your version of a polka-dot pumpkin. I made one with reinforcement stickers and it turned out looking like my pumpkin has chicken pox! : ) What a great idea to paint it black and let the orange be the dots! Genius.
Very cute!
Very festive and looks simple to do to boot!!
Cute!!! I'd probably not have the patience to wait either.
WOW! I'm absolutely impressed! This is awesome…and I for sure will be copying it. 😉 Thank you, I'm so glad you shared!

Fantastic idea! The stickers are just genious!!
Very cute! I am addicted to polka dot pumpkins this Fall. 🙂 Thanks for the visit!!
So I was just going through your blog and my email rang and said you commented on mine. WEIRD. How strange we haven't met? Those pumpkins are FABULOUS! I made one similar last year but with stars & polka dots, why oh why didn't I think of this instead of hand painting each one? That paper fan is delish!
I'll be stalking you from now on, thanks. 😉

LOVE this!!! This would be a great thing for the girls and I to do this weekend.
I love the polka dots. We only paint pumpkins. We tried carving last year ans even the kids prefer painting them. Thanks for sharing.
What a cleaver idea, I too had rather decorate my pumpkins then carve, we get one to carve and then the rest we dress up. I'll have to try this idea.
This is adorable and I will have one by nightfall! Thanks for the picture and the tip!
It looks great! I just finished a little project that I did in a similar way. I never even thought about doing the pumpkins that way!
Thanks so much for the tutorial – great job for perfect dots !
Love it !!
