Mercury Glass Christmas Mantel

I am repainting our entire level and wasn’t going to do a mantel this year.  Gasp!  What???  Me?  No mantel?  I couldn’t handle it.  So approximately 1 1/2 hrs ago I decided to do a mantel.  And here it is!
Let’s dive in to all the little details, shall we?  The silver and white stocking was a gift from my recent trip to TJ Maxx headquarters and the other stocking is from the dollar store.  The cute faith sign was from the Dollartree purchased last year.

I filled an apothecary jar with some silver ornaments I bought from Ollie’s last year for $1.50.

All the juniper greens were snagged from my mom’s house during my recent trip home to Virginia.  The mirror was taken from my boys’ bathroom ;).  Come on.  Do little boys really need to see themselves?

I raided my jewelry stash to add some bling around the candles and the mercury glass candleholders were a gift from my big sis last year.

The sprigs of silver money plant stuck in the juniper were purchased on clearance at Pier One—you guessed it—last year.

The fabulous mercury glass ornaments were a gift from my Secret Santa from my TJ Maxx/Marshalls trip.  I adore them!  Two of the most beautiful ones broke in transit which makes me so sad, but I just love the ones that made it safely to me!

The rhinestone clip on the white stocking is a shoe clip from one of my grandmother’s shoes.  I’ve had these clips forever and have used them in so many creative ways over the years, but never on my shoes.  Hmmm, I’ll have to try them on some flats soon.

  1. Yummy! I love the shine of mercury glass. You show great resourcefulness in being able to pull together such wonderful items in short order. Frankly, I'm jealous you can find things so quickly. Organization may be a good thing for the creative spirit?

Any pointers for folks like me that have alot of accessories to change the look of my home (seasonal items) without making my house look like knick knack hell during the holidays?! Having a hard time with xmas decorations because I have so much stuff only because I don't want the same look every xmas. Please help!!!!!!! Thanks, Sonia

  14. Visiting from TLC. You must work best under pressure because your mantel is great! Love the shoe clip! Um..I stole my daughter's bathroom stool for my mantel. Glad to know I'm not the only one taking things from a kids' bathroom. 🙂

  18. I'm so glad you decided to decorate the mantel! Gorgeous! Hoping mine is done soon (we're adding one to the dining room which is under construction). The one in the living room is a challenge with the tv above it.
