Painting the Guest Room: HomeRight PaintStick Giveaway

I am on a mission to get some home projects done within the next month and the guest bedroom/library/Matt’s office is at the top of the list. We finally finished our Ikea built-in Billy bookshelves (which I’ll be showing you soon once I have some time to style them) and thanks to the HomeRight EZ Twist PaintStick the room is painted!

HomeRight contacted me and asked if I’d like to review some of their products. I received the PaintStick EZ-Twist, the Quick Mask, and the Quick Painter.

I loved the Quick Mask! This stuff is awesome. It’s this little roll of scotch tape attached to plastic. You simply pull it out of the roll, tape it onto your baseboards, and unravel the attached plastic drop cloth. I can be a messy painter, so I put a drop cloth over the plastic one and loved having the extra protection.

The next thing I used was the Quick Painter. It is a great little edger. You suck up the paint into the stick and then press the blue handle to release the paint onto the little pad. I prefer cutting in with a brush so this tool wasn’t my favorite, but it might be helpful to someone  who isn’t crazy about using a brush.

And now for the fun one—the PaintStick EZ-Twist. The PaintStick is a paint roller with the paint contained within the paint handle so you don’t need a paint tray. You place the special cap with the tube-straw-thingie onto your can and then suck up your paint into the PaintStick.

In the picture below, you can see the paint being sucked up into the stick. Pretty cool, eh?

To begin painting, you turn and push the end of the handle until the paint fills the roller. One roller full of paint covers about 8 square feet.

Things I Loved About the HomeRight PaintStick:

  • I didn’t have to use a messy paint tray.
  • The roller fills from the inside out, so the coverage is amazing. I only had to do one coat in most places.
  • Painting goes very quickly with PaintStick.
  • I didn’t have to use my ladder on my 9 foot ceilings because the handle is so long.

Things to Consider About the HomeRight Paintstick:

  • The handle is very long when completely filled, so it probably isn’t the best tool for tight jobs.
  • The rollers are more expensive so if you like to toss your rollers instead of cleaning them it is definitely something to consider.
  • Clean up takes a bit longer.

Would I recommend the PaintStick to you? Based on my experience in painting this one room, I absolutely would recommend it! I don’t enjoy the process of painting, so anything that makes the process easier is helpful.

Here is how the wall looks now. The room is painted and ready for the next step!

I used Knitting Needles by Sherwin Williams in this room. I had some left over from painting the exterior of our home and love the color.

  1. Thank you Beth for reviewing the HomeRight PaintStick EZ-Twist, Quick Painter and Quick Mask. It looks like you had a good time while testing out the tools. As a side note, I love the new color of your guest room.

  2. I have never painted any of the rooms in my house believe it or not. The ceilings are 12 feet and 9 feet, and I’ve never found anything that would reach that high. I always thought I needed scaffolding and there was no way I was going to be able to handle that! I REALLY want to have my rooms painted!!! It sounds like these products are what I’ve been looking for to make the job possible. What a great giveaway!!

  3. Oh my gosh my whole house needs to be painted inside and out and its 2 stories! This would sure help save my back.

  4. the interior of my home has not been painted in ten years. Is much in need of fresh paint. We have cathedral ceilings and this might be easier to paint the high areas.

  5. Have a whole house to paint, minus one room, and these tools would encourage me to get started sooner.

  6. Hi Beth, if you want that fabric on your computer screen, I got that one in my bag at Haven. It doesn’t fit my house so I was going to donate it. But if you want it, just email me and I’ll be happy to mail it to you!

  7. Oh my goodness, I could have used that yesterday & today! I’m painting our sunroom. Paint got on my cat’s tail this morning and he brushed paint all over the rest of the house! 🙂 Smiling because it got cleaned up okay. I could still use the PaintStick for the sunroom ceiling.

  8. What a beautiful color! I am going to paint our game room and was looking for a color & that may just be the one! You always have such great style. I am a fan.

  9. I’d like to paint my whole house! But right now I’ll concentrate on my ceilings, My living room & my spare room. Please pick me! I have a lot of painting to do.

  10. I have so many projects to work on. Fixing the paint on the ceilings and repainting the doors being top on my list. We’ve had our new house almost a month now and the colored paint on the white ceiling is driving me crazy! The edging tool would probably make that job go a lot quicker.

  11. I had a painter paint the whole interior of my home just a year ago, but I have decided I am not overly fond of he family room color, so I would like to repaint…. and do it myself this time!

Thank you for the opportunity to win this!

  12. I have a very large living room I need to paint and as I usually do it by myself anything to make it go faster would be great.

  13. I would paint our living room! It so needs it and this may just be the kick in the pants I need to get it started!

  14. I am a new/1st time home owner – 1 whole month now! I can’t wait to start making the house our home with some color!!! I want to paint my office first!

  15. We’re moving at the end of the month and the entire interior of the new house is white. I would use the HomeRight PaintStick EZ-Twist to paint the entire house! The sad part is we just completed the interior of the house we are selling – took 4 years the old fashioned way.

    • Too much white can make you feel like you’re living in a hospital! Yes, you’ll need some tools to make it easier for sure. My fear is that I’ll finally finish every project in this house and then we’ll move. It’s the nature of it all, isn’t it?

      • Or a dorm room, or rental home. Every rental I have lived in was painted white and we were not allowed to paint over it at all – even when we promised to paint it back to white before moving. Drove my husband and I nuts! Problem is, it took 3 years to find the color we were looking for for the majority of our first home. And then we decided to move once we finished! The move is for the best though – my commute will go from 60 minutes to 6 and we are getting 20 acres of land with the home!

  16. my husband & I are in the process of having a new house built so everything will need painting once it’s done!!

  17. I have to many things needing painted. My Husband tore apart the WHOLE house to remodel it before I lost my job. Once I lost my job he stopped all progress or remodeling so now it is all left up to me, the one that is home all day having to look at it.
An auto accident in June messed up my back so painting a wall usually leaves me in pain and a room cam take several days if not longer to paint.
I love that the handle extends and holds the paint so there wouldn’t be the bending stooping to reload the roller or the up and down or repositioning of the ladder. Another great bonus… if I needed to stop for a break all I would have to do is cover/wrap the roller and then easily get back to painting.

    • Oh no! Yes, you need one :). I will say that I wrapped the roller in a plastic bag (roller face down) and went to grab lunch. When I came back the bag had paint in it. It stayed in the bag and wasn’t a big deal but if someone put it on their drop cloth it could leak. I’m not sure if this was something I did wrong or if it just naturally seeps from the roller, but it’s something I forgot to mention in my review.

  18. Our cottage as 10′ ceilings so I would LOVE not having to climb up and down a ladder to reload the roller. I am loving the color. Must admit that I’m green with envy that you look so cute while painting. I am more the red of face, sweaty, paint covered hot mess variety of painter!

  19. I would love to paint my kitchen and dining area. I an ready for something new and fun for those rooms. It has been about 7 years since I have painted them. Time for a change.

  20. Awesome review, Ive been looking for a way to ‘cheat’ my way out of decorating my house. I normally hate the messy paint trays and drips/splatters. this is the solution

  21. this would make my life easier with vaulted ceilings and I am not the best painter so this might be the tool for me.

  22. Getting ready to paint our laundry room and this new tool looks just what I need. Thanks for a great giveaway.

  23. Lots of painting to do and these tools would be great, especially since I have tall walls and lots of places to cut in.

  24. My basement is in desperate need of a sprucing and think this cool toy would definitely come in handy. Thanks for the great giveaway oppurtunity

  25. I have just finished painting the dining room and am about to start on the foyer. It is going to be a bugger because it ‘s red. Would love to have these tools for painting ease. Thanks for giveaway!

  26. These tools would be awesome to have! We have a few rental units and these would make painting them a much easier process. Not to mention when I feel like changing the color in my house! Thanks for the giveaway!

  27. I would use it in many rooms – my boys just moved into “big kid” rooms and we haven’t started the decorating yet — this would be great for painting their rooms the colors of their choice!

  28. several rooms/ceilings need to be repainted ….may buy an old house that needs lots of paint…this would surely come in handy!…

  29. Ok, seriously, what wouldn’t I use them for? Although, they might have to stay sleeping in the other room until we are out of our rental 🙁 But maybe I would have them sleep next to me at night, I don’t think my husband would mind 😉

  30. I’m getting ready to paint my whole house in preparation of selling it. I could really use all if these Home Right products.

  31. We need to paint our master bath, TV room and guest bath. This would really be a big help…

  32. loved this review and it’s just in time for some remodeling; in Louisiana, October is our best month for painting–inside and out–because of the lower humidity! thanks for sharing the opportunity!

  33. I’m in a new build, and so far we’ve only painted 2 of 4 bedrooms, 1 of 3 bathrooms, and part of the living room… I have a WHOLE HOUSE to paint! We’d start with the master bedroom and bathroom, I think!

  34. This would be amazing. I moved to a new house last fall and I’ve been dying to paint the dining room, but it was done professionally before. Even though I’m not a fan of the color I can’t afford a professional and I am awful at cutting in so I know it won’t be nearly as well done so I haven’t had the courage to pull the trigger and do it. Maybe if I had some helpful tools I would be more comfortable.

  35. Seriously could use this….planning on painting every room in the house before the holidays! It looks like a great product!

  36. I wish I had this for my dining room that we just painted! 🙂
Would love it to tackle the other rooms, like our master bedroom and guest rooms.

  37. I have my kitchen, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a loft & maybe just maybe 5 closets to paint. So heck yeah I’d love to win a paintstick. Thanks

  38. We just bought a house where every room is a different, garish color. Anything to cut down on the painting time is appreciated!

  39. We are needing to start repainting the inside of our entire house. These things would be so helpful (I just finished a wall that I messed up the woodwork because of the paint).

  40. That looks cool! We’re in the planning stages for painting our great room, and I bet this would make our job much easier when we actually choose a color!

  41. My daughter moved out recently so I’d like to paint the room she had and fix it up for a guest room/office.

  42. I would love to use this product. I need to paint over by Sherwin Williams red colored paint in our large den. Help!

  43. I think I have the same carpet. My carpet is in perfect condition and the walls are Kilim Beige or Nomadic Desert (Sherwin Williams shades of kakhi). I have been liking the gray but wondered if gray walls would clash with my carpet. Looking at yours, it looks fine. Good to know…

    • I love this carpet. It’s 6 years old and looks new still. Stains come out of it easily. It rocks :). And yes, the gray looks great with it so go for it!

  44. I have an upcoming paint project that I could really use this for sooooo please pick me. Love the gray by he way.

  45. My husband and I are in the process of buying a home and this could really come in handy in the future!

  46. I am redoing my kitchen with new cabinets. Will need to paint it too. I would love to try these cool tools.

  47. I’m in dire need of painting our bedroom, and bathroom before my husband gets back from our first deployment we’ve been through! I wanted to transform our house into as many dream spaces as i could…now all that’s left is painting it :)!!!

    • Oh hugs to you girl! I can’t imagine having my hubs away from me. How exciting that he’ll be HOME soon!

  48. I need to paint the inside of my entire house… it’s been 7 years already ! YIKES ! Hopefully this will come in handy…. 🙂

  49. I would love to paint my den and kitchen! They’re red now and I’d love to update with a more neutral color! Thanks for a great giveaway!

  50. I really need to paint our basement family room. I don’t love painting so anything to make it easier is awesome. I’ve really wanted to try the HomeRight PaintStick…I hope I win!

  51. We are down to the last two rooms to paint, our master bedroom and master bath. I would LOVE to try the paint stick!!!!

  52. I used one of these once and it was so easy! Trouble was, once I was finished, the sump pump decided to quit and I had to abandon the paint stick to bail the basement. A new one would be nice!

  53. My master bedroom and bath need a new, fresh coat of paint. My husband hates to paint so this will be my job now that I am retired. Would love to try these tools out. I have heard great things about them. Thanks.

  54. I’d use it on the ceilings in our house…been waiting for my tall husband so I don’t have to get up and down. This sounds perfect!

  55. I need to paint my living room and hallways. I have been putting it off because it is such a big job. This might make it more manageable!

    • Oh, and I am wanting to paint my mudroom…and eventually my foyer/hallway/stairway but I don’t have the gusto for that anytime soon!

    • In some places yes and others no. I don’t like other edgers I’ve used either though, so I’m admittedly just not an edger girl. I do much better with my Purdy 2.5″ brush. I did find the edger helpful in small areas between the doorway and wall. Instead of using a mini-roller in those spots, the edger worked great to fill in the small gaps with the same coverage as a roller and no brush marks.

  56. I would love the PaintStick. Seems like it would make rolling a lot quicker and I would have to worry about paint paw prints from curious puppies…

  57. I love this idea . Wish I had one to paint my kitchen . It needs to be lightened and brightened

  58. I’ve done 4 rooms (2 of them small bathrooms…) out of 9 in my new house, and it’s been an absolute nightmare. I love the finished product and not having to pay someone else to do it, but I HATE actually doing the painting. I’d love to try some new tools to make it easier!
