Inspired by my little sister, I decided to make my own batch of sugar cookies. I found these adorable button cookies by Chasingtwilight via iDIY and was even more inspired! This has to be one of the most adorable ideas for a cookie that I have seen in quite awhile. Instead of Chasingtwilight’s recipe, I used my sis’s favorite sugar cookie recipe with my own small tweaks.
For instance, I added a tad more vanilla…
…which almost ended up being soy sauce! Oops. Need to be careful when you’re cooking in someone else’s kitchen! (I’m still at my mom’s house.) I also needed to add more flour to the recipe because my dough seemed too buttery. (This may have had something to do with my bad math skills. Double oops.)
I chilled the dough in the fridge, rolled it out, cut it, scored it, and skewered it. Ta-da! Buttons.
When my buttons came out of the oven, I re-skewered them while they were still cooling to ensure the holes were open. Just look at how sweet they look laced up with some curling ribbon!
And now for some button cookie paparazzi…
So what would Asher think? He lit up when he saw the cookies and screamed, “Mommy, you made me BUTTONS!”
Oh yes I did!

If these aren't the cutest things I've seen in forever!!!! Love what you did with plain ordinary sugar cookies. Did you just draw that circle within the "button" with a skewer or did you imprint with something? I cannot say how much I LUV this whole idea, Beth!'

Ya know I was going to spend the afternoon baking that delicious looking watermelon-themed cake on the new cover of Woman's Day, but I think I'm going to push that back a day or two and make these adorable button cookies!
Beth, they are so adorable! At first glance I thought they were real buttons laying on the pillow! Oh, and you're little boy is absolutely adorable. He has some truly inspiring eyes. Thanks for the great idea!

Super cute, love a good sugar cookie!! Wonder if you could thread the button holes with those Twizzlers that pull apart (do you know what I mean), then you could eat the whole darn thing!!
I poured OJ on my cereal the other morning and I was in my OWN kitchen!!!! OJ and soy milk look nothing alike!! I'm losing it!!
